2017 Line-Ups

If JT is out, it has to be Morgan to replace him.

He's been a little underwhelming running the show at NQ the last few weeks. Criticism is justified but they're looking to him to be the controlling half.

Morgan does his best work riding shotgun to a dominant controlling half with a solid kicking game. He might have the best synergy with JT but a pairing with Cronk should give him the opportunity to play to his strengths.

Regarding the other candidates:

DCE had his shot and doesn't pair well with Cronk, as we've seen.

Milf can be dynamite on his day but is error prone under pressure. Particularly a concern when we're undermanned up front. Could work at 14 but would get harassed out of the game at 6.

Hunt has been injured too long, which is a shame. If he plays at his best, he would combine pretty well with Cronk. Good running game, resilient, never gives up on a play. Kicking could be costly though.

Norman is injured, not too mention a show pony and pea heart. I'd sooner Sandow suit up than have him cheapen the jersey.

When did he pair with Cronk? Didn't he pair up with JT because Cronk was injured, or did they play with each other (giggity) for Australia?

IMO, Morgan was always going to be in the side......it's always just been a question of whether he's in the 6 or the 14. Either way it doesn't matter too much tbh, if one stinks it up, the other is on the bench.

If kicking is a non-factor for the vacant spot, we may as well just go with Milford, who is probably a better "running Five-Eighth" than Hunt.
When he's on and we're going forward, sure, his impact in attack is greater. As far as his fortitude in a match where foul play is rife, penalties are scarce and he's being hammered everytime he takes it to the line? Hunt is (IMO) more reliable under such pressure. Tough little bugger and has the heart of a lion.

You're right, my bad. It was JT. Perhaps he would do better with Cronk but I'm still pretty iffy on the giraffe.

We should just bring in McCullough and move Smith to Five-Eighth for a game.

I would worry if Milford was the 6 at this point as a qld fan. They would go at him all night and his defence has been diabolical to start the year. Morgan is a solid defender and is just a much bigger body. Not that it probably matters. I reckon Thurston plays this week. Was rumoured he wanted to play last week but they told him just to take the week.

Ha

Have you been watching for the last couple years, he has been the worst performing forward in origin just check the stats... We are better off blooding new and better forwards

To say that he has been the worst performing forward in Origin shows that you haven't been paying much attention, because that statement is just wrong. You don't realize just how important he is to the team, and just how much more important he will be now that Scott is out.

He isn't there to be a battering ram and make plenty of metres, that's not what Myles is known for. He is there for his defensive work, and especially his experience. He is a rock in defence and has been a key part of quite a few of our victories. His tackling technique also has a habit of getting under the skin of the Blues.

With Scott out and Parker gone, we lose a lot of experience in that forward pack, which is why the selection of Myles is important. His club form hasn't been good but he always goes up a gear at Origin level.

There are other props out there better than him, but they are also very inexperienced and as we've seen in the Origin arena, that can backfire on you very easily.

Myles doesn't let QLD down, and he won't let QLD down if he is selected again this year.

I actually don't give a shit if QLD lose this year. Blood rookies, don't blood rookies, I don't care. I want Broncos premiership number 7 thanks.

Here are the stats:
2016
Game 1 28 Minutes - 8 runs for 74 meters - 12 Tackles
Game 2 N/A
Game 3 29 Minutes - 8 runs for 67 meters - 17 Tackles 1 Missed Tackle
2015
Game 1 56 Minutes - 13 for 133 meters - 36 Tackles 2 Missed Tackles
Game 2 43 Minutes - 10 for 91 meters - 27 Tackles
Game 3 # Minutes - 14 for 115 meters - 16 Tackles 1 Missed Tackle
Fair enough he isn't the worst but he is close to it. If it were SOO 2016 selection I'd consider picking him, but his inability to stay healthy puts him as a liability and his stats from 2016 don't support your argument. Based on his current form I wouldn't select him.

Stats. You know who sucked on the stats sheet? Lockyer.

That's a bit of a cookie cutter statement, Lockyer is a five eighth, Myles is a forward. Myles performance can be directly attributed to his stats, meters gained, missed tackles, tackles. Stats aren't the be all and end all but they can sure give an indication.

Okay, Korbin Sims has shit stats for a top-line prop. Is his worth purely determined on those stats? How about Blair who's stats are normally around the same?

Are you actually basing your statement off the mean average stats by the top-lime props or just assuming? Both Blair and Sims present average to above average stats in comparison to the 'top-line' props.

Sims for one generally produces worse stats than Myles' Origin stats.

Myles had his time. He was great, but you can't count on old farts to lift forever.

Just watched game three 2015 - more please.

I know they did it again in '16, but that was largely through an injection of youth. It's transition time for QLD.

Yes but since Scott is already out plus the retirement of Parker, the transition is necessarily happening anyway, I don't think it is good to throw another rookie in there. Give Myles his swansong this year and bring someone else in next season, phase it in as it is much better when you have a winning side anyway.

I don't think so, maybe you should look at the data rather than just assuming he does...

Korbin Sims:

Round 10: 11 runs for 101 metres, 14 tackles
Round 9: 11 runs for 82 metres, 15 tackles
Round 8: 9 runs for 80 metres, 17 tackles
Round 7: 9 runs for 95 metres, 20 tackles
Round 6: 10 runs for 81 metres, 17 tackles
Round 5: 6 runs for 52 metres, 23 tackles
... etc etc ...

So I guess Sims playing club footy is comparable to a 2016 Myles, and woefully inept compared to a 2015 Myles?

Maybe for game one, just for some starch up front, but if he doesn't perform above average, win or lose, I'd move him on.

Wallace will be the Hooker for NSW and B.Morris will be on the wing (Replacing Trbojevic) according to Badel.

He also says that Thurston is in MASSIVE doubt for Game 1, he will be named, but is unlikely to play. Morgan will start with Milford or Munster coming on to the bench.
