If Wayne's relationship with Darius had clouded his judgement on team making decisions, Darius wouldn't be the last notable player left without a contract signed, he would've been the first player re-signed, instead he has more than likely sacrificed a fair bit of money to ensure we were able to keep our core group around long-term.

I think they're on the same wave length, both will do whatever is necessary to win another premiership before they retire.
Or daddy was waiting until he released as many players as possible so he could give baby boy $2 mil a season...

And yet Bennett re-signed the majority of the players off contract and signed some players on big money.

Not something someone would do when they are trying to free up a huge amount of money to give to a certain player.

If we offer boyd anywhere near $1 mil a season we are cooked. His body is deteriorating, pulled out of world cup now. Honestly still think he could be the player with the shock retirement, and that's why the Broncos played him against the storm, so he had one final game.

He has always been well paid because daddy always made sure of it, not to mention all the test and origin caps. If he has personal stuff going on, it would make sense for him to just call it quits.

Considering how he makes next to no tackle breaks, and his try assists were also very low this year, in a team that scored a lot of points, I definitely wouldn't be paying him much if he is continuing on. There are a lot of fullbacks i would rather have than boyd in general, let alone when you take into consideration the price of the player. SOmeone like Gutho would have been amazing. WOuld be on probably 1/3 the price, and my god was he good this year.

If Boyd hypothetically retires this year we are done barring a huge signing. Surely we have the cap space for him - not a million a season mind you, he's not worth that amount - I mean, just look at the Roosters or Cows squad compared to ours... I can see Boyd moving into the centres long term tho, especially if we sign Taylor.

I love Gutho but he's done his ACL twice now.

Wayne answers to Paul White, whom answers to the board in matters of player contracts. Highly different from team selection, which he is sole master of.

Darius Boyd broke his thumb throughout the year. The thumb is reasonably important for catching, passing and tackling (cut off your thumb and see if you can hold a cup).....

He also just pulled out of a World Cup and lost $50,000 in doing so due to his weak excuse of a hamstring injury...

Until these injuries he was rated the best fullback in the game over the past year and a half...

But hey, no excuses! Let's sign some players who have played about 6 or 7 good games and dump this Australian and Queensland mainstay and multiple premiership winning fraud! Bennett is covering his ass!

Mate, some people are just disrespectful.
If people actually read Wayne Bennett's books they would understand why Boyd looks to Bennett as a father figure.
I read one full of other people's wisdom

you need to get past it pudding

Bennett and Boyd have a strong, healthy relationship

Folks denigrating them for it must not have been so fortunate

Guy Hamilton to Souths. Definitely worth an off-season. Did last off-season with Storm and then had a great year with the Falcons.
