NEWS Broncos captain Darius Boyd says he’ll quit NRL if hamstring issues continue

No one denied that Boyd was excellent for us. I disagree that he does a lot of work still, he barely talks to them now days, back in the day, off camera, he was constantly barking orders, motivating people, talking to players who bugger up, now days, he's constantly out of position, caught out, slow, and runs like a fairy.

Well, it's not what I hear from a couple of players I know who play with him. I presume you are talking about the players when you say he barely talks to them. I do think on the pitch nobody can deny his form isnt down, but he is still doing the same things in terms of organisation that he was this time last year. His own play just isn't anywhere near as effective

I still disagree. Watching him with my own eyes, he might as well be doing nothing compared to what he was doing a couple of years back.

It's one thing to yell one thing a set, it's a completely different thing to direct the entire defense and attack from behind the play like he used to.

He's different in every way to what he was.

His general play is, but all I really go off is talking to blokes I know who are in the same side and they tell me his organisation and talk are still the same. It's pretty obvious he isn't the Darius Boyd in terms of how he plays the game of 12 months ago.

I wonder what would happen to someone in his team if they found out they had been talking down about the captain to random mates though.

I think his urgency has dropped

Dunno, but if they thought the captain wasnt up to it I still think they would say it to friends anyway.

I think Boyds form is the big issue, not him as a captain tbh

Ha ha, no mate. What's the pearl been saying now?

Him and his boys were having a good old laugh, didn't wanna interrupt his good time. Didn't recognize any of the others though.

Just saw a try from dragons game last night where hunt picked up a loose ball, got tackled but got his arms free, looked around and passed to the supporting fullback who runs length of field to score. We can never do something like this because of Boyd and often you'll see our guys get their arms free with no one running through in support. It's as though our gameplan is built to suit boyds injury.

Do we know any detail of where boyd tore his hamstring and exactly how bad the first tear was?

In Boyd’s defence hamstring injuries can absolutely wreck your running I have had a bad tear before. The only way they properly heal is you completely stay off them and rest.

Quite the opposite.

Constant rehab and work is needed exercise wise.

I'm gonna have a stern talk to all the Sports Medicine Specialists I know, because they're obviously clueless about the recovery process...

Immediate Management

The immediate treatment of any soft tissue injury consists of the RICER protocol – rest, ice, compression, elevation and referral. RICE protocol should be followed for 48–72 hours. The aim is to reduce the bleeding and damage in the muscle. The muscle should be rested in an elevated position with an ice pack applied for 20 minutes every two hours (never apply ice directly to the skin). A correctly sized compression bandage should be applied to limit bleeding and swelling in the injured area.
The No HARM protocol should also be applied – no heat, no alcohol, no running or activity, and no massage. This will ensure decreased bleeding and swelling in the injured area.
Rehabilitation and return to play

Timeframes for rehabilitation and return to sport vary depending on the nature and severity of the strain. As a general rule, Grade 1 hamstring strains should be rested from sporting activity for about three weeks and Grade 2 injuries for a minimum of four to eight weeks. In the case of a complete rupture (Grade 3 strain), the muscle may have to be repaired surgically and the rehabilitation to follow will take about three months.
Premature return to sport and inadequate rehabilitation will increase the risk of re-injury. Full stretch and strength should be achieved in addition to the ability to perform full speed training. Assessment of sport-related activities, such as twisting, jumping and changing direction suddenly should also be evaluated.
Note the bold bits in the above from Sports Medicine Australia, but what do they know...

What does it say for after 72 hours as quoted above? Because Boyd is well out of the time frames that the above applies to.
Did you read all of it, such as:

Grade 1 hamstring strains should be rested from sporting activity for about three weeks and Grade 2 injuries for a minimum of four to eight weeks.

The above multiplies in case of re-occurrence.

This is not correct for long term rehab. I have no interest in arguing this out on the forum as it will turn the thread to shit. I have sent you a PM.
No need to argue mate. I have been there, done that several times, and unfortunately know more about the matter than I should, due to having hammies that would make Hodgo's look like steel cables!

Absolute rest is needed for the healing process. The rehabilitation only starts after that, to restore elasticity and resistance to the muscles and tendons.

Like any other injury, the time frames are only guidelines, as it will be different from person to person. This goes for the rehab as well.
