I don't think we need to match it but we would need to give him the chance to keep his position.

I heard what he got offered last night and what we are likely to come back with. Its miles apart right now and its got me a little worried. Not saying its gospel or anything, but i think it would be pretty much close.

After one game , ha ! He is young and will make mistakes . Or maybe we drop everyone that makes a few mistakes.

Thats what i keep saying! You have blokes in and out of the team, they arent able to build up consistency or get settled because of it, and NRL fitness is totally different from ISC fitness. Every young player is up and down, you cant just come in and kill it week in week out, only the exceptional ones do as rookies. It takes time to develop.

I can understand the second Keary try, but are you seriously going to bag him for the first one?

He was completely outnumbered and tried to get in between the pass which is what every other fullback would have done. If he marks Keary, the Roosters player just passes it to the guy next to him or goes himself.

He was caught in an impossible situation and nearly pulled off a try saver.

If anyone should be bagged for that try, it should be Roberts for his abysmal miss.

Agreed he had one choice there and that was the knock down. 3 on 1 if i recall. Haters gonna hate . Keary had all momentum in the 2nd one , bit of an arm grab but 1on 1 is always 50/50.

James Roberts must be pretty damn fit. He got burned early by Mitchell but when he ran around Mitchell for his amazing try, Mitchell had nothing left in the tank to chase him.

Roberts is tough, probably tougher than i gave him credit for. On a side note, i hope nsw pick Mitchell. He is such a lazy, lazy defender, Gagai and Chambers will have a field day with him.

Yep and he has a tendency to often charge out of the line, like multiple times a game.

I thought he handled himself well tonight. Just that pass for Oates, the confidence to throw that and get it spot on.

I would like to see him get another crack.

He deserves it. If you play well, you should keep the shirt no matter who you have in the wings, and he played well. My biggest worry is Bird will decide he wants to play so we shuffle the team around to accommodate him again.

Yep, no coincidence the team played so much better without the entire side being shuffled around to accommodate Bird.

Boyd is still struggling with that hamstring. He isn't 100%.

He clutched at it a couple of times in back play tonight. He was still being hampered by it.

We need to give him a few weeks off to get over it. Perhaps he will get back to his best when he can.

I agree re hamstring. That’s why they have this thing called rehabilitation. Do some of that and if you can get 100% then he can earn his spot back after he proves it in QCup. I know there is a lot of senior players missing but can’t play bad hammys at fullback. He costs 1-2 tries a game lately.

Pre-game, the Broncos were in the sheds in a circle, mood lighting, obviously doing an honesty session.

Post-game, the forwards stayed out on the field to soak it all up.

Young kids, they can’t be up every week, but how quick can they mature? In that two hours I think they just realised what it takes and know they can do it.

TPJ, Su’a & Ofahengaue, they played easily the best game of the season that we’ve had from our 11-13. What the **** do we do when Glenn, Gillett and McGuire are back?

Something in me thinks that bonding session might net us 3 champion back-rowers who stay for unders, bide their time and use it to gain wisdom from the old heads, knowing they’ll be the future of this club one day.

For me when they come back.

8. Lodge
9. Macca
10. Offa
11. Sua
12. Gillo
13. TPJ
14. KNik/Bird (hooker/lock late in game and back cover)
15. McGuire (he can play 60 straight when comes on)
16. Glenn
17. Haas/other young bloke
18. Thaiday if someone gets injured/origin.

I think need Offa to start with experience of McGuire sorting out the period when Lodge and TPJ goes off where we dip.

It confirmed that Bird needs to wear the #7 jumper again where he will shore up that big hole in the defensive line. And once he is fully fit, confident and comfortable, he will be a force in that position. He will be back in the halves before season's end.

^^^ This....well, almost.

7. Milf
6. Bird

We gotta get Kodi out of there, it's going to get real ugly down his side defensively soon.

Milford is definitely starting to gain more confidence as a game manager. Yes, we are losing a bit of his natural running game instincts atm......but, the more he feels comfortable organising, then the sooner he will be able to start picking his time when to run the ball.

Bird at 6 is a better option then at 7. As for the overall combo of Milf/Bird vs Milf/Kodi......Milf/Bird can't do any worse than Milf/Kodi in attack, and at least with Bird, we know he has size and can tackle.

There is so such thing as a 5/8 or half back anymore. It is left sided play maker or right sided play maker. I assume Bird will need to be on the right as that is where he played centre.

IMHO

1. Boyd. 3. Tried in first run and then forgot how. 42m compared to 190 disgraceful. Good tackle and looked a little better on sweep but positioning is leaking 6-12 points a game.
2. Oates. 7 Machine. Has to be picked for origin. Keep working the hands still makes me nervous
3. Opa. No score. Hope he feels better soon but has to be nervous after Staggs debut.
4. Roberts. 7.5 . Owned at a couple of points costing a try but came back and made up for it.
5. Isaako. 8. Still a defensive risk but that run says it all. Needs to be fullback so Boyd can sort himself out.
6. Milf 6. Better control but wasting him. Imagine he and Roberts running riot against that defence. Add 2 more tries.
7. KNik. 4. Pretty sure he was there and bit less of a turnstile. Also wasted need his spark from hooker.
8. Lodge. 8 immense but hope continues to develop with experience.
9. Macca. 6. Typical Macca tackle feat. Service was a little better I thought but note comparing to friend.... not the barnstorming origin audition that would inspire confidence.
10. Thaiday. 5. Close to best game of the year with serviceable meters. Still but lazy in defence. Problem is his best is nothing great.
11. TPJ. 9. Silly error but can we please clone him and make him 7,8,10,11,12,13? Would it count as one salary under the cap? The fact that he doesn’t care where he plays and just turns up is amazing.
12. Sua 7. Good meters, a little in and out of the game and defensively will mature. Still is better option than Glenn to start currently.
13. Offa 8. Needs to start at prop when full complement. Isn’t a bench player. More a workhorse that complements bigger guys.
14. Taga ? Didn’t see that much to judge.
15. Sims 3. Better meters against retreating defence at that stage. Doesn’t offer anything. Hope no fracture for his sake but won’t be missing him in team if out for a while. North Queensland or Gold Coast is nice this time of year...
16. Mago. He was on the field right? Poor bloke no minutes on debut but not best game to blood him I agree.
17. Staggs. Wow 9. A couple of minor times caught out which is to be expected but showed heart, sense and talent. While we shouldn’t pop the champagne yet, need to block Newcastle’s number from his phone before they offer a million a year.
