Hopefully it's just a strain for Jimmy (it's been bothering him all season apparently), he'll have 17 days to ice up and rest up before the next game.

Still that’s close to 2 weeks so a good recovery time. If that’s how fast he’s running while not 100%, imagine his real top speed when he is!

and BTW ... if the ball is thrown backwards, the laws of physics (which i'm confident Corey Norman is not able to defy) say it is not possible for the ball to float forward
Yes it is, because the ball is already travelling at the running speed of the player passing the ball.
 
Put it this way: if you throw a footy backwards out of a car window at 60k’s, do you think it doesn’t float forwards from the point it was released.

You don’t need a scientist mate, just that little thing called ‘common sense’.

We did well to hold on. The refs kept the Eels in it, they were lying on us for an eternity, to the point that they knew they weren't going to get pinged for it so just lay over us some more. Couple that with 3 of our bench players having 2 games between them before tonight, and it's no surprise we looked ragged for the last 30 minutes.

This massive workload on the young forwards would normally burn them out by the end of the season, but with Glenn, Gillett, McGuire & Sims to come back, they'll be able to freshen up a bit with reduced minutes and be able to unleash hell come finals time.

Apparently Roberts' injury is one he's been carrying for a while, so there's the answer to why we've carried a centre on the bench every single game this year. It's come in extremely handy with unexpected injuries (Kahu, Bird, Opacic, that cursed left centre position), and it's amazing that it's taken until round 11 for Roberts to actually need replacing.

The scientist is right. Because throwing the ball "backwards" at 60kph is only backwards relative to the person throwing it. Relative to Planet Earth, it's still going forwards.

The principle is exactly the same. If the backward velocity of the pass is less than 10km/hr then it will float forwards. And players are often running faster than that (you originally said it was not physically possible for a ball thrown backwards to move forwards regardless of who's thowing it or how fast they're going).

The same principle applies. It's the same reason why you can't jump just before a crashing elevator hits the ground and be fine. If a player is running forward with the ball at 10km/hr and then passed the ball 90 degrees sideways the ball leaves his hands with forward momentum of 10km/hr. The ball doesn't know or care that it's no longer being held by human hands.
