Alfie Langer retired mid-season in '99 after the worst start to a season min Broncos history (still the worst start to this day) ...

instead of try to lead the team from last ... he cut and run, only to come out of retirement in England...

but i don't here anyone say they expected better from a captain, in that situation ...

Boyd on the other hand clearly realises there is an issue and is working hard to rectify it.

It's not like Boyd has been down on form for year ... he was good enough to win the QLD fullback for Origin 1 last year... his dip in form started during the second half of the year after his injuries, which he struggled to shake.
I agree with what your saying about boyd but bad comparision... there’s alot more to the langer story then that. He didnt abandon the team exactly

He is getting hammered by everyone on here for deciding to focus on the broncos?

Sure he probably wasnt going to get picked, but the fact he has said he no longer wants to means there will be no speculation or pressure on him. This will free him up for us a little bit at least. Also, what if he does hit a bit of form? No one saw 2015-2016 coming after his period at he knights. People were saying he was hardly first grade material before he signed with us lol...

For me, its a sad end to a great rep career. He is the second highest tey scorer in origin HISTORY and was the player of the series in 2016! No easy accomplishments.

Whilst i dont disagree with him not getting picked, it wouldnt of happened in meningas era. As well as scott this year or slater last year. This team didnt stand for anything, it wasnt a fresh start but it also didnt reward experience. It kind of tried to dip its toe in both ends of the pool and it backfired. Meninga may not have been a great club coach and also got a golden run with players but him and bennett understand origin and they either went with the tried and tested, or they pulled the trigger on a fresh start. Not this half/half bullshit. Cooper is in worse form then boyd and is less origin experienced and is older, how the **** does that make sense....

Boyd can’t even run at full pace that’s the difference. He’s afraid to stretch out. Shouldn’t be doing anything but rehab. Also difference with Cooper is we are desperately low on backrowers at moment. Whereas we are stocked for outside backs.

Alfie left for the good of the team and his own legacy. He believed he wasn’t up to the job (or was pushed by a Bennett) so he handed over the keys. Going to England was like going to well paid retirement job. Be thrilled if Boyd went to England. Where’s Bennett to make the call now?

Even Bukuya, papalii or sua are in better form then he is atm. He is the worst performing player in the worst performing team in the league haha... walters would have been better off picking boyd in the 2nd row the way cooper was playing if he was picking on form lol. The thing is cooper still did his job, not great but he was better then at club level. Hats what origin experience does. Cooper has 4 games(?) to his name, boyd 28 games. And are we strong at prop? We are even weaker there, so why no scott? The team had absolutely direction to it. Was it experience, youth, form, attacking flair, defensive strength? What was it?

Even if Boyd is at the back of his career and down on form, he was still a great servant for QLD and Australia and continues to be for the Bronco's, I think he deserves a lot more credit and respect then he's getting on here

You wont realise how important a player is to a team until theyre gone. Reed was much maligned on here, but people look back at him now and realise how much he gave for most of his career. He chose to fall on his sword when the injuries became too much.
Darius for all his faults is still a good footballer. He has a calculating mind and a clear ability to read the play.
Against melbourne he was far from the worst player on the field and was the best in the first 30. That miss was poor from him but there were two players there and I haven't heard one criticism of staggs. He a good young footballer but he too was poor as he was covering the step.
If you look at that game, it was clear we clocked off with a lead. Some of that will go on darius, but is only one of several senior players who should have been more incisive in their efforts. Everything from our dummy half, to our forwards defence, to halves plays, to our backs at times selfish play, was down. The whole team needs to look at itself after that game because it was attitude, not ability that let us down. We had the ability to blow the storm away and in the end let them do so. Some of it will be on darius, but in the end a footballer must take responsibility for the effort they give themselves.

Wasn't he asked to come in as a backup and he declined though? I know it's cool to shit on him and get all of the likes but this doesn't really seem right.

There's more comments here shitting on him than mine. I was more leaning towards the fact the media exaggerate a headline than Boyd being shit. But it's cool to shit on people's comments and get the likes I know.

I actually think the bigger issue with Darius is that he has lost the fire in the belly to compete at his best. He alluded earlier this year to calling it quits. He is only 30 years old. It's understandable that someone who is a few years older looks to call it a day (Thurston, Smith, Cronk etc) but they all have 3-5 years on him. I just don't see the fire to compete. Not at origin and not at club level. That said, I think the evolution of him as a human being is outstanding.

It's not just about his age though, he has been through a lot mentally and emotionally, it takes its toll.

One thing I did notice about Boyd in that Storm came was when he scored he pointed to his wrist tape which I'm positive had K.W written on it which I just presumed was Darius reminding Kevvie he is still around. Can anyone confirm if that's what was on his wrist?

If you listen to the presser after the game. The K and the W were for his wife and duaghter's first names. He has had that on his wrist for a while it's just that he has not scored for such a long time that he has been unable to point to the wristband during his try celebration.
