Monster rookie Payne Haas finishes second in 1.2km time trial
The exciting young prop, who made his NRL debut earlier this year, set a cracking pace at Red Hill on Thursday morning, moving with ease to take the early lead over the likes of Farnworth, Jack Bird, Troy Dargan, Patrick Mago and George Fai.
Payne Hass finished second in Brisbane’s 1.2km time trial.
While Bird also looked fit in his return from a sternum injury, Haas made a strong statement in the short session, with 18-year-old development player Farnworth only claiming a win in the time trial in the final hundred metres.
The 119kg, 194cm-tall forward showed his promise in just three appearances for the Broncos last year, before a shoulder injury ruled him out for the season.
However, it is clear Haas has his sights set on securing himself a regular spot in the 17 next year.
Youngster Herbie Farnworth narrowly won the test.
Matt Gillett, who did not partake in the time trials, said he knew Haas would be fighting hard to become a first-grader and expected to be falling behind the young gun a lot throughout the pre-season.
“Making his debut and bowing out so early with that shoulder injury (last season), it would have been pretty disappointing,” Gillett said of Haas.
Jack Bird also excelled in the run.
“But that’s something he will use to be better and hopefully get a role in that starting 17. There’s going to be plenty of competition for a starting role or bench role.
“I’ll be behind him in the pre-season, watching him go, but I’ll do my best to keep up. He’s an exciting talent.”

Who’s TPJ.

Speaking of this 2019 side, have you seen the jersey they are gonna be wearing next year? Just saw it on FB. It's a shocker IMO.

I've liked our jerseys 2015 onward but this one is going back to those cheesy looking Broncos jerseys again.

I really fucking like that training jersey, plus Jack Bird looks in good shape

What was the point of Tristan Sailor being I the 9 news video. Was he a bronco junior or Was he close to signing with is. Or is he is a chance of coming to us some time down the track

Yeah they’ve fucked the jersey, they had a good thing, why screw it up?

But neither of the things you quoted had any mention of TPJ.. Hence the confusion.

I think he meant along the lines of, who's this TPJ guy who everyone is caught up about, because he's got nothing on Haaaas.

whats wrong with it
The 2015 - 2017 jersey went back to a traditional 1990's Broncos style. The 2017 jersey was a further improvment. Now we are going back to that cheesy look.

It's just a matter of opinion i suppose. I wouldn't buy it.. If we won a premiership in it though I'd probably change my mind as I do like the 2006 white jersey.

I think most Broncos supporters are attached to the 1990's look as it was our glory years.

What do we know about Herbie Farnsworth. Good prospect?

Tough, he broke his hand twice this year, first ISC game and stayed on the whole game and his second game back broke it again scoring so he only ended up with nine games in his first ISC year centre one game and wing the rest on the right. Norths debuted a lot of guys this year and he was part of young dynamic team that I think will see success soon.

He was very good in defence for the Devils in a side that can leak points. Of his nine games six he didn’t miss a tackle. He showed he can score with 22 points against the Capras. Two tries stand out 60m against Capras and against Easts off a Murphy kick he was brilliant and broke his hand grabbing the ball that no one else got near.
