NEWS Brisbane fighting Warriors for David Fifita

Guess we'll find out, I don't love our chances if the money these clubs are throwing at him is true. We simply can't get close to matching those offers unless we can convince a couple of players to retire / move on.

Yeah I agree it's going to be tough. Hopefully some player move and retire to free up the required space. Will be interesting to see how it is all handled and specifically what happens with Bird.

We have stuffed up imo by trying to keep every decent kid we have. Lodge was a must keep, but im not sure TPJ and Joffa were. Haas and Fifita should have been prioritised over those two. Haas was, but we have dropped the ball on Fifita.

Sounds more like they aren’t in a rush to re-sign him because he has a year left. Like they are trying to get their cap in order to fit him in.
More like they’ve made him an offer and waiting for his decision.

People are forgetting that Andrew McCullough’s contract runs out at the end of 2020, the same time Fifita does. There’s your extra cash right there and hopefully Segeyaro accepts his 2 year deal. Turpin, Segeyaro and Paix will be enough cover at 9. McCullough won’t be re-signed after 2020 that much I’m confident about.

Now if we can just get Boyd and possibly Gillett to move on in 12 months we can finally strengthen our spine and go to market. Then we finally will have the the right balance and will have a formidable team with a decent premiership window.

Seibold was quoted on Triple M saying the club’s vision moving forward is to have a crack at the title instead of just getting in the 8 and not be a finals threat so this is the foundation that needs to be laid down.

Still a couple of hard decisions that need to be made which could make all the difference and then we can get a better gauge of Seibold is the man to get us there.

Pretty sure McCullough has an option for 21

Would it be an idea for Fifita to sign a one year contract with the view to upgrade him again once more funds free up with Macca, bird and Boyd potentially finishing up next year ?

Good idea for us, whether it’s a good idea for him is a dependent on what’s been tabled elsewhere

I was fine with prioritising TPJ, he has a lot of growing up to do on the field, but he's got enormous potential to be one of the best forwards in the game. Ofahengaue on the other hand has been bog average for the Broncos this year, depending how a few things shake out with the roster there's a very real chance he's not in our best 17 next year, and we paid him $500K a year.

I just dont see TPJ over Fifita. TPJ is inconsistent, unreliable and constantly prone to making dumb errors and getting suspended. Fifita is a far more mature player at 19 than TPJ at 23.

I never said I was fine with prioritsing him over Fifita, just that I was fine with prioritising him (Over the likes of Ofahengaue, Glenn, Oates, etc)

The second part is precisely why I said he has a lot of growing up to do on the field.

Haas & Fifita are the only 2 that matter to me, I'm actually annoyed that they're not on Taumalolo / DCE style life long contracts, that's how important they are to the future of the club.

The great thing about our young pack is that they all bring their own style to the game.

Lodge is the gritty leader.
Haas is an absolute meter making freak
Fifita is that X factor hole runner
TPJ is the offloading high tempo aggressor
Offa is the reliable work horse who just puts his head down and gets his job done.

It’s a very good balance. If we have to lose one then the priorities debate can be had but all of them bring something great to the team.

Oates should be priority over TPJ. TPJ seems more interested in himself than the team.
We have fairly reliable forwards now and TPJ's errors/penalties are too costly.

Apart from his earlier handling issues the way Oates has played this year is on the blokes beside him. Boyd seems to have forgotten how to pass. Shiba cannot hold the ball or draw defenders to save himself and Fifi tends to run himself, often away from Oates. Of course Fifi runs are pretty handy but it does mean Oates is less likely to receive the ball.

You said you were fine with prioritising TPJ after i said it should have been Haas and TPJ.

My big worry is we seem to be looking top quality in every position when thats just not practical. No good having an all star forward pack if you dont have the backs. We dont have enough of the workmanlike, just get the job done type of players in our squad. We seem to have gun kids, potentially gun kids or blokes like Boyd and Macca who are players on the way down costing us a fair bit. We dont have the solid, NRL performers who wont let you down but wont cost the earth either.

Could just back end the contract. That way we have him secured. For the years after.

I would look at long term contract, first year pay to remain in our cap, then scheduled increase in the following years when we can offload some dead wood

Offa is still providing the numbers, but maybe should be back on the bench for a bit. He's definitely worth keeping.
I think flegler might be the one to leave, from NQ and they will be looking for a scott replacement.

Yeah Macca and Boyd are meant to be the exactly the get the job done types that youre talking about. But they aren’t doing their jobs. Glenn and Gillo are doing it but I feel Gillo is on too much coin for what he’s currently offering. I also think Isaako is a average do his job type winger.

I imagine this is what’s happened, and it’s just whether we’re willing to pay enough in the back end
