The Wests Tigers are reportedly set to make a stunning play for Brisbane Broncos superstar Anthony Milford.

Less than 24-hours into the NRL free market period, The Sydney Morning Herald reports the Tigers could make an immediate play for Milford if the Broncos decide to release their marquee man.

The Tigers have gone from managing a tight cap to having cash to the hilt after medically retiring Ben Matulino and letting Esan Marsters and Ryan Matterson depart.

The Tigers are wary of past mistakes and don't want to pay 'overs' for players who aren't at their best, but the Tigers view Milford as someone who can strike from the back and transition into a No.6 when Benji Marshall retires.

Outside of Milford, the Tigers' have a hefty list including Dragons Luciano Leilua and Zac Lomax and Titans duo AJ Brimson and Jai Arrow all on their radar.

The Broncos are known to be managing a tight salary cap after re-signing Matt Lodge and Tevita Pangai Junior this year to multi-year contracts.

David Fifita is yet to re-sign and Darius Boyd is rumoured to be on a deal worth around $800,000 per season, making it a tricky situation for the Broncos.

Anthony Milford endured a roller coaster year in 2019. Switching from five-eighth to fullback, the Broncos star struggled to find form and was overlooked for Queensland selection.

Meanwhile, he Warriors who are reportedly preparing to table a $3.5 million offer to Melbourne forward Tino Faasuamaleaui. The deal is rumoured to be $700,000 for up to five years.

It will prove a huge gamble with the young star only featuring in five games since his debut in Round 16 against this Dragons.

The Warriors are also eyeing David Fifita and would be willing to offer the gun forward up to $1 million per season to seal the deal.

It will be interesting to see what value the tigers put on Milf.

I think he falls in the $800k-900k range so I would be hoping we extend Milf on $800k for 3-4 years.

If Milf starts fielding $1m offers it will become a pretty serious decision for him. I don't know if we want to retain him on $1m again, plus we have the incentive of family and cheaper cost of living.

It will probably need to be a pretty big offer from Sydney and almost no interest from the broncos for him to move and I'm not 100% convinced Milf will get those massive offers again, unless he absolutely kills it this year

He’s worth around 600k.

600k at a good club.

The bad clubs have to pay overs sometimes and hope for the best.

He’s better than Josh Reynolds.. Who they signed for around 900k or something

It’s the Tigers so whatever he signs for needs to have a 9 in it

What do we do if Milford has an incredible season though? Players go up a gear when playing for their future

We look at his performance across his entire contract, take into account age, consider our depth at the position and what's available amongst potential outside signings, and make a decision from there.

Or four more years at a mil with three extra years of player options at escalating numbers. Either or, you know...

Article is verified bullshit.
Why? Personally I believe it. The club can no longer be taken at their word. I seriously doubt Bennett had it built in to his all-time favourite's contract that he would get less as time went on, if anything it would be the opposite. They have been pissing on our legs and telling us it's raining for a while now.

Haha I guess we could always allow the tigers to try before they buy.

We look at his performance across his entire contract,
2015 should've been Clive churchill
2016 first half of the year was verging on dally m form
2018 broncos player of the year

Take into account age - 25

Consider our depth at the position - zero alternate five eights except probably Bird on $900k. We only have halfbacks coming through the juniors

and what's available amongst potential outside signings - probably Cody Walker on $800k, Wighton on $900k, and then just untried juniors. Mostly it will be guys from Sydney who we will have to entice with extra cash and runs a risk

I dont think we should increase milfs wage next contract, if anything, it falls. If he is not willing to accept that, then so be it.

Had isaako not stood up these past few weeks or arthurs be a viable option, i may have been partially tempted to consider trading milf for corey thompson and 400-500k compensation. I rate thompson and think his fullback play would compliment our forwards' offload ability. He has a lot of energy and cardio too.

Although unconventional a spine of 1. Thompson, 6. Bird, 7.Croft, 9. Turpin would not be the worst spine going about. However like broncosfan mentioned i think long-term/succession planning could be an issue as i dont see bird sticking around (i am surprised knights and dragons have not pursued him).

I'm gonna be honest with you, I believe based on this year's form, Wighton is worth more than Milf at the moment. I would happily swap the two. Wighton is a real footballer. Milf doesn't know what he wants to be - a pro footy player or just one of the Southside boyz at a half-court shootin hoops.

It helps a 5/8 to play good football when you have a decent spine and you are not expected to perform miracles on your own. Putting Wighton in Milford's place would yield the same results

This! I’ve said it before but that first half of 2016 he was in arguably better form than 2015. What happened? He and Benny Hunt got totally roughed up by a seasoned Cronulla team. They never really recovered.

A couple of offseason injuries and confusion about what he is meant to do on the field and he is a shadow of that player.

I personally would love milf to be the player we all think he can be. Matty Johns really rated him from their sessions last year... but I get the feeling milf is confused about the type of player he wants to be and also... he can’t get over his mistakes quick enough to get back in the game and on the ball like a thurston. The talent is there, the desire and fitness might not be.
