I also hate the six again stuff. No team should have to defend up to 18+ tackles in a row without a slight break.

The inconsistency in the calls is what really shits me, that’s giving the refs a hell of a lot of influence on the game and I don’t trust one of them to make consistent calls for a full game

The problem with it is that one reset inevitably brings two. The ruck penalty is so objective that you can almost be punished by a certain try for a sleight infringement 70 metres downfield.

Another thing, we’re the eels just showing incredible line speed in defence or was there a **** ton of offsides?
Yep, with the speed in the ruck they were still up in our grill the whole game. 1 penalty for an obstruction and 1 6 again call against them. They did give us a few chances but we gave all of them straight back.

I actually just can’t get offa out of my head! Would you not be chomping at the bit when you get on from being out for so long? Seriously the bloke has the best manager in the league. Lacks huge amount of ticker. to be honest these guys need to be brought down a peg or two, you’d think getting absolutely fucking flogged last year would do that? Nope they need to be shit talked hard buy some
Champions that have done it all.

wish cozza and hodgo would just let fly! Let every single one of them know what their weakness is in front of their team mates make them own it, then put them to task.

Been saying for a while that Ofa isn’t first grade Broncos standard. He’s a Gold Coast starter of course, but has done nothing to keep his Broncos jersey. And for 500k, that’s just ridiculous. I’d love for Isaako to prove me wrong though

It was like they changed the 10 metre offside rule to 7 metres, but broncos never got the memo..... parra were always 3 metres infront of the ref??????????????

Of all our incomplete sets, i'd love to know how many of them we coughed the ball up on tackle 1,2 and 3. Not good enough

This.
Especially because 90% of our attack is one out rubbish. If we were throwing the ball around, at least you could excuse our poor handling because at least we’re having a go.

But we have atrocious handling, largely on an attacking game based on one out fucking hit ups and a low bomb on the fifth, with chasers who couldn’t possibly get there on time, even if they were Usain Bolt...

The same goddamn basic gameplan we’ve had since Hook...

Not really, he bombed a gift try created for him and decided that a never on grubber was a better option then running it with a gap present, his involvement tonight in attack was next to non existent, he offered nothing tonight, much same signs last season and that was with a strong forward pack giving him plenty to work with. I'm over the free pass Milford gets, Hunt copped it, Kodi copped it, but somehow Milford is above all that.

Wally Lewis in his prime would have been able to get involved in this game because he always went looking for the ball or called when he needed, he always looked to create opportunities. his great kicking game alone would have presented 40/20 opportunities. I've seen Wally Lewis guide a Queensland side decimated by injuries during a match to the point they didn't even have a bench guide them home. I don't expect Milford to be Wally Lewis as he will never be an immortal, but he definitely could have got himself more involved in the match, Croft certainly did what he could.

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, even if it is clearly wrong. He didn't bomb a try, it was a poor bounce and he slipped on the dewy grass. Boyd on the other completely bombed the try that was gifted on a silver platter to him by Milford.

Also, if you could show me the footage of Wally Lewis, or quite literally any play maker in NRL history having an above average game with less than 40% of the possession, I'd very much like to see it.

There was a twenty metre tap where the players moved forward in front of the ref as he blew the whistle but by the time we made the tap they were only 7m in front of us

Well they cant even get the knock on calls right, let alone manage the 10m, hands on the ball or blockers.

Ironically that’s the exact kind of match where you could’ve probably used Macca to absorb some of that momentum. Ah well.

some great signs in defence. That was almost exactly the same as the 58-0 game except we didn’t actually let them capitalise.

We looked good at times and it almost seemed at a few stages that we were beginning to wrestle our way back into the game but our completion rate was embarrassing and the game couldn’t be saved.

We all know hass is a beast but Carrigan impressed me again. He goes into tackles with intent. There were several hard tackles where i thought shit, that would have hurt, only to see the number 13 roll out of the tackle and get into marker.

I think junior paulo is right up there with best forwards, his ball skills are just that additional dimension. His personal stats may not reflect it but parra gain so much from him.

34-6 and they didn’t capitalise?

The only good news is they only beat us by 28 points, not 58?

Yeah, seems we’ve really learnt a lot since then...

Sutton set the tone in the first 5 minutes raping us with the ruck infringements right off the bat (not suss at all. I don't appreciate the NRL using us as the guinea pig for rule changes) and Parra just took the cookie he threw them and ran with it. They strangled us right out of it and the forwards still being on holiday didn't help matters. I think you'll find that infamous 58-0 final has begun a psychological hoodoo similar to the one we have with Melbourne.

If we never see Jamil Hopoate in a first grade jersey again, I won't be too unhappy about it. What a dipshit. Also Boyd is absolutely taking this club for a ride for the $$$

He is, absolutely done.

We have misused Oates for far too long. It shouldn't surprise anyone that he isn't playing well after spending another full season outside an incompetent centre and/ or ball hogs. We may as well play Farnsworth there or Arthurs but I still think Oates has the ability as long as he's not just defending where his only hope of seeing the ball is kick returns.

Hopoate in his 180 minutes of NRL football this season..

4 errors, 3 penalties conceded, 12 missed tackles, 5 ineffective tackles.

Remarkable.

1. Isaako - needs to follow the ball around more in attack, otherwise can’t really fault him. Not spectacular, but far from the worst.
2. Oates - seems to have checked out mentally and it shows. No punch in kick returns, no effort shown. Poor hands. A shadow of his former self.
3. Staggs - didn’t do a whole lot of good things, but a couple of poor things. Fairly or not, people have come to expect more from him and tonight, he didn’t deliver it.
4. Boyd - aside from resorting to passive dummy half runs pretty much exclusively, bombed a try. Didn’t miss any tackles, but is otherwise a passenger. Nothing new really.
5. Arthars - not sure why he was taken off the field before Oates. Actually did his job.
6. Milford - didn’t get involved much, which seems to be a trend over the last few years. Not a lot of opportunities, but also didn’t seem to try and create many either.
7. Croft - tried hard, probably a little too hard. Should end up being a very astute acquisition.
8. Flegler - not bad, not great. Held his own in the middle.
9. Turpin - tackled his arse off, no gas to do much else.
10. Haas - huge. No more needs to be said. Clone him.
11. Glenn - couple of decent runs, but then injured.
12. Hopoate - not a backrower. Tried hard, but found wanting.
13. Carrigan - seemed to be everywhere. Massive work rate and motor. Clone him too.
14. Farnworth - nothing spectacular, but good yardage considering limited minutes. Far better than Oates.
15. Ofahengaue - first game back, but far too experienced to use that as an excuse. For every good game he has, he as 6 or so bog average ones. This one was bog average.
17. Bullemor - don’t know a lot about him, but have heard he’s a footballer. Would have liked him to get more involved, seemed to just camp on the left with Boyd and Oates. Maybe that’s why...
21. Lodge - not much impact, pushed a poor pass too. Coming back from quite a serious injury though, so hopefully just finding his feet.

Yes we had bugger all ball, but a lot of that was our own fault. Not time for panic stations, but we came back looking pretty rusty, Parra came back looking like they hadn’t missed a beat.

TBF though, they were offside all night, did get 6 or 7 penalties to 1 and several more 6 to go’s.

It's funny how every new rule that has been introduced has gone against us. We were first to have the ball stripped by the drop off "one" man tackle. That's another crap rule imo. The old one on one is absolutely possible. Munster did it three times in one game.
