Jamil had a shocker
Hopoate in his 180 minutes of NRL football this season..
4 errors, 3 penalties conceded, 12 missed tackles, 5 ineffective tackles.
Remarkable.
At the same time, they dont beat our first choice 17 in that manner. We didnt finish the game with a recognised back rower on the field.
No, they beat our first choice 17 even worse, last time we played them...
We didn’t have a recognised back rower on the field. So blame Seibs, is that what you are saying? For picking 3 props on the bench (and a winger?) yet our middle is still as soft as butter? For not having Hopoate on the field? For apparently learning nothing in the 7 months he has had to get ready for this?
Oh, also having just listened to the press conference, apparently replacing Arthurs with Herbie at the 55 minute mark was a planned ‘tactic’...
Genius!!! Yeah, Arthurs was the real weak spot that needed ‘replacing’...
Maybe it’s because oats does radio? Arthers was fine he’s a good player! Oats should have been taken off or staggs. No, they beat our first choice 17 even worse, last time we played them...

Off the bench as a backrower would be ideal for him otherwise he just can’t deal with the constant ball retrieving that modern wingers have to deal with.We have misused Oates for far too long. It shouldn't surprise anyone that he isn't playing well after spending another full season outside an incompetent centre and/ or ball hogs. We may as well play Farnsworth there or Arthurs but I still think Oates has the ability as long as he's not just defending where his only hope of seeing the ball is kick returns.

I look at this team on paper, I get FUCKING EXCITED. Then I proceed to watch them and it blows my mind. Anyone think their work ethic would fly under the eels coach? Lol
1. Isaako - needs to follow the ball around more in attack, otherwise can’t really fault him. Not spectacular, but far from the worst.
2. Oates - seems to have checked out mentally and it shows. No punch in kick returns, no effort shown. Poor hands. A shadow of his former self.
3. Staggs - didn’t do a whole lot of good things, but a couple of poor things. Fairly or not, people have come to expect more from him and tonight, he didn’t deliver it.
4. Boyd - aside from resorting to passive dummy half runs pretty much exclusively, bombed a try. Didn’t miss any tackles, but is otherwise a passenger. Nothing new really.
5. Arthars - not sure why he was taken off the field before Oates. Actually did his job.
6. Milford - didn’t get involved much, which seems to be a trend over the last few years. Not a lot of opportunities, but also didn’t seem to try and create many either.
7. Croft - tried hard, probably a little too hard. Should end up being a very astute acquisition.
8. Flegler - not bad, not great. Held his own in the middle.
9. Turpin - tackled his arse off, no gas to do much else.
10. Haas - huge. No more needs to be said. Clone him.
11. Glenn - couple of decent runs, but then injured.
12. Hopoate - not a backrower. Tried hard, but found wanting.
13. Carrigan - seemed to be everywhere. Massive work rate and motor. Clone him too.
14. Farnworth - nothing spectacular, but good yardage considering limited minutes. Far better than Oates.
15. Ofahengaue - first game back, but far too experienced to use that as an excuse. For every good game he has, he as 6 or so bog average ones. This one was bog average.
17. Bullemor - don’t know a lot about him, but have heard he’s a footballer. Would have liked him to get more involved, seemed to just camp on the left with Boyd and Oates. Maybe that’s why...
21. Lodge - not much impact, pushed a poor pass too. Coming back from quite a serious injury though, so hopefully just finding his feet.
Yes we had bugger all ball, but a lot of that was our own fault. Not time for panic stations, but we came back looking pretty rusty, Parra came back looking like they hadn’t missed a beat.
TBF though, they were offside all night, did get 6 or 7 penalties to 1 and several more 6 to go’s.
34-6 and they didn’t capitalise?
The only good news is they only beat us by 28 points, not 58?
Yeah, seems we’ve really learnt a lot since then...
It seems we’re on the same page yet I desperately wish this wasn’t a conversation we were having. We play passive un inspiring footy and no one is ever seemingly held accountable. All recipes for disaster and blow outs. Exhibit A last year and exhibit B just now.Serbs in the press conference said replacing Arthur’s with Herbie at the 55 minute mark was a planned tactic, but one that didn’t pay off because we never held onto the ball.
Oates was never going to be subbed off. Apparently it doesn’t matter how poorly you play in this team, if it doesn’t fit some rigid pre-planned ‘tactic’ it isn’t going to matter. Nothing is going to change...
I think half this team would be unemployed if we had the Parra coach. Or the Tigers coach. Or the Storm coach. Or any coach that seems to care about winning, as opposed to welfare...
It’s amazing how many winning teams have so few ‘welfare’ issues, but poorly performing teams seem riddled with them, to the point they need a welfare advisor rather than a coach...

It was a horror show, but that's the reality of a young football side.
The problem is that our worst players every week are the experienced ones, not the rookies. Aside from Hopoate, who shouldn't be playing first grade, our least impactful players tonight were Oates, Ofahengaue, Boyd, Glenn & Milford.
They're our 5 most capped players...
Are you telling me “it’s just a game of footy” or are you implying that that’s their attitude?“It’s just a game of footy”
I think that’s a little unfair on Glenn
