Alex Glenn responds

I like glenn, but was not impressed with this response. When people say respond to the critics, we do not mean literally alex. Posting a response basically asking people to be nice.

I would have much preferred him to not go public, get the group together and basically say, **** those commentators, "journalists" and social media guys, the only people we answer to is eachother and the only way we prove them wrong is to win.

I think an anger response would be more useful than self pitying.

It just demonstrates that their focus isnt where it is meant to be. Focus on your game not your social media

If my customer at work thinks my team did a rubbish job, they tell us. They say we did not perform and we aren’t paying the bill.

Criticism is meant to build resolve and high performance teams!!

Maybe Glenn was responding to abuse as opposed to criticism?

Anyway, Wayne Bennett responds (in 2018 before the Dragons flogged us)

""If you are football player and you read social media then you really are a bit of a fool," Bennett said ... " about Ben Hunt copping abuse, the day before the Dragons flogged us.

I see we also went on a 10 week win streak that year, got royally fucked by origin it seems. Hard to see this team going on a 10 week run.

Would be interested to know the losing margins in those losing streaks. I can almost guarantee it's nothing like what we're witnessing this year (where the team essentially gives up at the first sign of adversity)

2003- 8 games

R20- Manly 26-20
R21-Cronulla 20-10
R22- Penrith 13-6
R23- Tigers 12-10
R24- Warriors 22-14
R25- Parramatta 16-14
R26- St George 26-25
Finals- Penrith 28-18

Av margin 6

As expected, hard fought losses most weeks.

I'd rather a 20 game losing streak where we're at least putting in 100% effort and fighting to the death than the shit we've copped in the last month.

It wasn't a losing streak but the only run that comes close is 2009

Round 13 vs. Melbourne 4-48
Round 14 vs. Canterbury 22-44
Round 15 vs. Cronulla 12-46
Round 16 vs. Parramatta 14-21
Round 17 vs. Warriors 28-14
Round 19 vs. Souths 12-44
Round 20 vs. Gold Coast 18-34
Round 21 vs. Canberra 0-56

Round 3 vs. Parramatta 6-34
Round 4 vs. Sydney 0-59
Round 5 vs. Manly 18-20
Round 6 vs. Newcastle 6-27
Round 7 vs. Gold Coast 12-30
Round 8 vs. Warriors ? - ???

Damn. I really liked Alex Glenn and wanted him to excel as a leader. I can't put the current state of events on him, especially considering he was out for a lot of the games, but the spelling and grammar in that tweet was enough to set my teeth on edge. How are people making these mistakes with your and you're? Why is he saying ain't? Is he American now? Has he forgotten about punctuation? No wonder people felt like it was like a BLM post. It reads similar to how Americans speak. Tweets are short. Read back over it, correct the errors and then think again whether or not you should post the tweet.

I agree with Sproj on this issue of bullying and fragility of the playing group. Ever since Boyd made a huge deal about his mental health it seems as though the club has been very careful about how they manage the mental health of their players. The issue is that, as Sproj and others pointed out, these are the kids who have always been the best and don't know what it is to lose. They haven't learnt how to strive and fight through failure. They've relied on natural talent and have not been told they have to work for their win. This is a huge turning point in a person's life and it will take time to turn around for the club. Especially when the club refuses to put the onus on them.

The lack of seniority and general success of the Broncos has become our greatest hurdle this year. The senior players we do have are those whose careers have been guarded, broken in 2015 and haven't produced any true effort following that. Glenn has always been regarded as a potential captain. Milf is on big money and really has been working hard to keep the team going but without support from the entire team he would probably be losing his motivation. He still, however, does not know how to lead a group out of a rut.

There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed in the club. Mentality is the first place to start. The boys need some tough love to grow into men.

Yep, and all of this talk about a divide between the senior players and Seibold, to see an empty chair next to Seibold at the presser on Saturday spoke volumes. Glenn is a toiler but he is no captain. He's too much of a larriken for his players to take seriously.

players haven't been a press conferences for a couple of years. maybe you don't watch them

he is a footy player not an English professor

After everything that's happened and with all the chatter about Seibold, how did Glenn not think that he should be there to own it as well?

Imagine having the nerve to complain about criticism and "online bullying" when you're captaining the club in the midst of the worst 5 weeks of football the club has played in its existence.

Really sums up the fragile mentality of this playing group.
This This This.
Any bit of criticism they get right now, they deserve.
If it was a handful of losses, and they were copping flack, i would agree with him, but back to back x 5 and some record losses to boot would warrant complaints from fans of any team going through this.

If they showed they were disappointed after a game instead of having a laugh with the guys that just flogged them, then maybe the fans wouldn't feel like it was a kick in the guts as it seems we care about it more than they do.
This just soured me on Glenn.

I dunno, we're 5 games into one already. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Fat Tony kept these performances up all the way to season's end.

His also da Captin ain’t he

The whole "we'll bounce back for our true supporters" is a lousy thing to say, because given the nature of the post it seems he's insinuating that those of us who are becoming disillusioned with the state of the club and the performances being offered aren't the real fans the group wants to play for.

If Alex doesn't want to play for people like me, he ought to get onto marketing and tell them to stop calling me or my family regarding renewing our memberships or offering ticket deals to get us along to games.
