Meyn in the Courier Mail is saying that the club is concerned Walters may not have the experience or track record to be the next Broncos coach. sighting his only professional club coaching gig (Catalans) as a reason.
Well they wouldn't exactly be doing due diligence if they didn't look at his coaching CV. Hardly a revelation that one.

I've served on Boards, and if I was on the Broncos board, I would be very nervous about the next coaching appointment.
Imagine royally screwing it up twice in a row?
I've served on no boards whatsoever, and a sporting environment I'd think is a lot different from corporate setup, but I think the unity of the club is probably the most important thing at the moment. I think the Broncos board could be forgiven for going for the peoples choice and old boys choice.

I can only think of when, about a decade ago, Liverpool were in the shit and close to bankruptcy/being in the wilderness for a long time. Club was in utter turmoil, and they appointed a club legend in Dalglish to get everyone feeling good again. Ultimately it didn't really work out and they fired him in a few years time, but it was an important olive branch between the club/board and the fans.

I think we just need to feel good about ourselves again, and Walters will help do that.

Hi mate,
No argument here, and I am all in on the Walters train.
My post was not meant to be favouring any applicant over another, simply saying how nervous they would be about who they will choose, no matter who that is.

oh no all good man, sorry if my post came across as argumentative, I was just highlighting how little experience I have comparative to you.

I agree that they are probably gunshy on this because of the fallout, but sometimes I think there can be paralysis by analysis at a board level. They are probably looking at who can turn us into contenders straight away, and stopping short of Bellamy/Robinson, I'm not sure there is anyone that can do that.

So for me, the next consideration would be, who can help make us feel good as a club, make the fans feel good, restore pride and integrity to the jersey, and someone you know would absolutely bleed for the club. We both know Walters would tick all of those boxes. Give him 2 years and reassess. No point going big on another essential unknown (unless we could grab someone like Maguire who i think would be an excellent consolation prize).

Who releases this info to media? Who from the board tells the media "they're concerned Kev doesn't have the experience"? Can they quit the club.
Right now the media are that desperate to fill the empty void, they are feeding their own rumours. Reposting and reposting

If I were king!

Want to competitive from next season? Simple. Appoint Gentle as head coach and Flanagan as his assistant. Then Flanagan takes over in 22.

Bang. Job done.

That is a good thing. Brad Fittler made a great point on Freddy and the eighth. When Paul Green was let go by the Cowboys it wasn't known to the media until it was announced. When Anthony Seibold departed the Broncos the news was well and truly out there before there was a press conference. Fittler has stated there has been too much leaking from the Broncos to the media and it needs to change.
When we have board Members that work for the same company that owns the Courier Mail and the Daily Telegraph, it's probably Impossible, Cowboys don't have that.

probably no one

they read here where some of us talk about our concern stating Walters Catalans record

and combine it with the official comments from Morris that they are in no rush to appoint a new coach and want to see whats out there

then use the typical rugby league media formula of 2+2 = 22

and there's your story

Get the CEO in first.......everything else can then fall into place...but announce the new CEO next

Our front office is the key to future success; dont get this one wrong, pull out all the stops and hire the right one...

Then, once he is in, he can have his say on the direction of our next coach search..

I dunno, I'm not as high on him as you are. I don't mind the Sharkies though. I think Maloney was the real catalyst there.

Fair nuff! I just admire a team when they take it to Melbourne. Considering how poor(financially and facilities wise) Cronulla are compared to us they made us look awful. Beat us with 8 reggies last time out. Largely a Flanagan team.

Anyway, I rate him and proven winner with 10 years as head coach. Never been dumped either. Well, not for performance at least!!

Peter Sterling has suggested that has to be taken into consideration too about experience. Which is why he thinks Paul Green has the edge. Sterling also suggested that the lobbying from the old boys needs hush up and the let the process take its course. The pro-Walters backers will argue that Anthony Seibold was more proven then Walters winning Dally M coach of the year and that didn't work out too well.

We are owned by the media so it’s never going to change unless they are bought out of the club

Jesus Christ. This isn't hard. Pick Walters as a casual worker. 12 months, if we like it we offer you fulltime. One things certain. If they do that the Broncos will get a free pass for at least half of 21. The fans, old boys and media will all be temporarily appeased. Memberships will immediately be renewed, gate receipts straight back up, favourable media coverage straight away, players suddenly happier, it's a fucking win win. Not my first choice, that'd be Gentle with Flanagan as assistant for 21, Flanagan as head coach in 22 but still, 2021 would be instantly a winner.
