Who should it be?

12 months is not sufficient time to implement changes and put plans in place with any degree of certainty. If Seibold couldn't get players to buy in with a six year deal in place, what hope does any Coach have with only 12 months?

2 years as a minimum, 3 years as an absolute maximum is fair for all parties and what every Coach outside of Bellamy and Robinson or maybe Ricky Stuart should really be on.
You said my first choice doesn't want the job and I asked you when was that? When was that?
If KW wanted the job and could coach he'd prove it with the cattle he's given. You'd have to think the bars been set pretty low so why not take the chance, I mean if you really wanted the job.

Added bonus would be a small salary risked and the club would demonstrate to KW that they very much held the whip. It's cool to disagree with me but please answer my question.

I don’t think we are getting either Smith or Bellamy. They’ve used us every single time, we would be better off not getting excited for a fifth time in a row and being disappointed. As much as I’d like them to be here because they would be the best option, they’re just not coming. **** them

Yup, agree. Bellamy is nothing but a ****-tease. We have offered him plenty of opportunities to come up here and coach us, but he has used us each and every time to squeeze more $$$ from Melbourne. Great coach that he is, I don't think his heart would be in it like Kevvie. Besides, if Bellamy wanted the job so badly now, let him come chasing us for the role instead of us begging at his feet.

A few experienced assistants sitting behind Kev, and if it doesn't work out after 2 years, at least the Old Boys can then shut the **** up. If it does work out, bingo, we have our man at probably half what we were paying Seibs. I reckon Kevvie would probably almost do the job for free he wants it that badly.

Kevvie would coach us for a Broncos polo shirt

Really don't think CS9 is playing on next year. Much more likely to retire and take a junior coaching role. That said, the lure of a huge one year deal back home might be too much. I think there's a backroom bidding war in progress as we speak. You'd have to think the Tits would be a better chance, at least less chaos and pressure.

Either way, it would be huge pressure but I do agree it would be more at the Broncos. He'd be going to the GC with the other Titans incomings and they would be expected to be top four instantly. He would get massive amounts of positive press though because thanks to Mal and Tallis, they are media darlings.

At the Broncos, he would be the face of the club, be expected to make them competitive even if no one else comes in, re-unite the club, bring in accountability, be head coach and captain and be hounded relentlessly by the old boys and the media, especially if he in hindsight plays on one year too long.

The right time was two years ago. The second best time would be now.
I'm not sure the right time was two years ago.

At that point we were kind of looking for a coach to finish it off and lead us to a premiership... so going with a largely unproven spiritual type leader didn't really seem necessary when you already had that in Bennett anyway

Sorry to break it fellas but the next coach should be.........Me. I’ve got 30+ years watching the game, know that you have to tackle the opposition, hold onto the ball, pass with a structure and put the ball down on the opposing in-goal.
Now where do I sign?

Yes...but can you play fullback?...and play fantasy football?

Would it not also be prudent to get Locky in to the footy department full time as a halves coach? If only to get him the **** away from the boardroom.
I think people overrate Lockyer's role on the board.

I'm not sure who else is on the board (cant really be bothered looking), but I'd say he's more like the football expert viewpoint... and maybe more of a token appointment.

"We have a football related sub committee let's get Lockyer on there to give it some credibility"

I'm not sure what he'd be like in the board room setting, but he appears reserved in his viewpoints when in commentary and may become a bit of a yes man.

If that is the general approach put forward by Lockyer then he's not really offering a lot on the board anyway, but I very much doubt he is the king maker he gets made out to be at times

Tallis has said a few times now that he’s talked to Kevie about his plans and he already has some high profile assistants/football dept support lined up who are at other clubs currently.

Very interested to know who but the fact that he has been proactive without any assurances from the board, quite the opposite if anything, excites me. He really wants this

Fantasy football I’m decent but definitely can play fullback! I’ve been known to fall/trip over stuff in public so I can’t see how much different than what Australian kangaroo test player No 1 has done in the last few years.

Here's a quote from an article in the Brisbane Times yesterday:
Gentle has five weeks to somehow keep the players inspired while knowing he will not be in the running - nor is he interested - in the top job moving forward.

Such is his respect for Seibold, Gentle would love to reunite with him when he knows he will land another NRL head-coaching role.
There are others behind various paywalls, I can't see who this is attributed too but one is a direct quote of "Peter has made it very clear that he doesn't want to be a head coach...", which is also from yesterday. There's another in the Gold Coast Bulletin from 9 August leading with "Peter Gentle has no designs on being head coach of the Broncos", so it's not exactly late-breaking news.

I wonder if our beloved editor-in-chimp @McHunt has anything to add on the subject.

Bring Walters in and offer Michael Hagan and Matthew Elliot whatever they want to help him as assistants. Have Hodges’s involved as much as possible as well. Let Walters manage the team, let the rest of them be the brains behind the operation and have Hodges be the disciplinarian.

Bennett can coach Queensland and be a mentor to Walters, and I might start giving a shit about Origin again. He can also be affiliated with the Broncos somehow, aiding recruitment with his Queensland Origin ties. Let’s get the best people in to fix this shit.
I think the sun has set on Bennett and the Broncos, and understandably from his viewpoint. Your ideas and positive outlook are great though.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that he would be available to Walters to contact if he got the job

Not really. Gentle has said he has no ambitions to be a head coach in the past. The Fairfax piece covered it amply. Maybe he will change his mind at the end of the season, and might apply to stay on as Head Coach of the Broncos. From what I've ascertained the new board will decide on the coach.

The only thing I have read recently was an article in the last few days which indicated that when he was still here, if the club did not want to run with the JD option, that he was happy to work with Walters or whoever the club wanted.

oh no all good man, sorry if my post came across as argumentative, I was just highlighting how little experience I have comparative to you.

I agree that they are probably gunshy on this because of the fallout, but sometimes I think there can be paralysis by analysis at a board level. They are probably looking at who can turn us into contenders straight away, and stopping short of Bellamy/Robinson, I'm not sure there is anyone that can do that.

So for me, the next consideration would be, who can help make us feel good as a club, make the fans feel good, restore pride and integrity to the jersey, and someone you know would absolutely bleed for the club. We both know Walters would tick all of those boxes. Give him 2 years and reassess. No point going big on another essential unknown (unless we could grab someone like Maguire who i think would be an excellent consolation prize).
Nah all good mate, I was just being sure I wasn't misunderstood.
I'm not sure KW will win us a premiership, but then again we really can't have that near certainty outside of say Robinson or Bellamy, but like you I am convinced KW will be at minimum a step in the right direction.
And that's a certainty the players, sponsors, and fans all need right now.
