Looking at asiatas minutes over his career tells me he isn't worth the money he will want. He has never played more then 40 minutes, he's a 25-35 minute specialist.
Great pick up on the cheap but our middle defence is the issue, but even then the edge defence takes priority.
Id be looking at players that fix the edge defence before looking back into the middle, a fit lodge, returning Macca (terrible for our attack but we need some experienced defenders in the middle) and maybe a far cheaper option like Elijah Taylor would fix the middle defence more.
It then look to bring in a Kurt Capewell or sua ( whichever is cheapest), and opacic or a cheap defence focused centre (maybe an experienced QLD cup option even?).
We shouldn't overspend just for the sake of it. Our focus should be defenders. Good talkers in defence, high work rate and strong in effort/energy in defence, good readers of offense in defence, and as a bonus maybe a big hit or 2 in them. Our attack will come if we fix the defence. The roster has enough attacking ability.

Fair enough. I didn’t think I was changing the subject, just furthering my explanation. But anyway, B.Smith is a freak, his aggression and drive makes him play like a bigger man, he is an outlier, an exception to the rule if you will. Hope that clarifies it but if not, the point I’m saying is I think Asiata is too small AND doesn’t have the ability B.Smith does.
I agree mate, Asiata is streets behind the block of cheese in terms of the dynamic energy he brings to his pack. Asiata's strong point is his ball-playing ability. But as someone suggests he may only be capable of giving us 20 -35 minutes a game which is fairly useless for a lock. How old is Asiata and can he coached/flogged/trained to give us two good 25 minute stints to bookend the start and finish of a game? That would be a well-worth addition to our forward options.

Kevvie has stated he wants to play attacking footy , a ball playing forward like asiata is a good choice. Weather he can do the job is another question, but I'll back Kevvie.

Is that a fitness issue or just a Lolo issue though.

I don't follow the cowboys closely enough to know either way

More of a Lolo issue I think because he certainly had no difficulty playing more time in the halves when it was required of him.

Maybe they are going to give Bird the lock role and hope he holds up
In that triple m interview, kevie said he liked and would like to replicate melbourne's attack in the semi-final against parra.

I noticed in that game, they used brandon smith to sprint into the defensive line, poke his head through, land on his front and get a quick play the ball and attack off that (much like how souths use murray).

I think bird could bring that same quality and additional ball playing at lock, but given staggs is out i think bird will be in the centres.

It is a good idea and if he brings in Grant, Munster, B.Smith and Vunivalu, he might be able to replicate it.

I'm more than happy for him to play attacking football but would prefer he starts with our defence. If he gets that right than attack will quickly follow. Bit how WB began at Dragons.

He has mentioned defence to so he's just not thinking attack.

It is definitely more of a lolo problem. But the issue isn't that he doesn't appear capable of doing more then 40 mins, it's more that he hasn't proved it. Our whole squad is capable, we need proven performers. Especially if we are paying a fair bit.

Do we really need a prop that plays more than 40 minutes? Haas, Lodge and Carrigan will hog most of them anyway.

No, we don't. But he would be used as a lock and be asked to play 50-60 mins id suggest. Haas, lodge, flegler and carrigan would rotate the prop spots with TPJ doing 20-30 in the middle for asiata and cover for the 2nd row.
It would be bloody formidable actually lol.

I may have just talked myself into it. But, I don't think it's anywhere near our top priority, especially for the cash he'd want...
