Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Sadly I think we were unable to rid ourselves of the previous regime with enough time up our sleeves for the incoming guys to have much of an impact on this season.

Honestly, If Donaghy can pull of Cam Smith and Bellamy in basically his first month, after Paul White spent the best part of a decade fucking both of those up, he deserves his own statue out the front of the Clubhouse.
I think the Macca scenario (twice) and a few others over the last few years have shown that if there is a willingness by all parties to play, then getting players under contract (final year) is not actually that big a deal.

I'm ust after some juicy Gos. I am still deflated from last year and need something to get excited about. I didn't watch a game in the second half of the season last year and cancelled Kayo after usually watching 4 or so games a weekend. Looking forward to the weekend's game used to get me through the week. Heaven forbid this year is a repeat.

We don't have any massive in's although Boyd being out, is pretty much an in, and we've lost Fifi. I find it hard to believe it all boils down to Seibold and poor coaching, although, wouldn't that be nice.

This is a big year for Kevvie. I think the question is still out on his coaching ability and I'm not sure he has the team currently to prove anyone wrong.

I really hope I'm wrong.

A few more than that: James Roberts, Tom Amone, Kurt Dillon, Bryson Goodwin, Jack Johns, Ethan Lowe, Ky Rodwell, Bayley Sironen.

Not one a loss for the club, except Roberts in terms of ability but certainly not in terms of culture.

Outside the stadium now. Does anyone know when the conference starts?

I need to take a piss, and don't want to risk missing it.
Just keep your eye out for the Black Thunder.

I'll wait for the rage on here. Always thought that the guy was a prick and nothing he has done since then has changed that.

No . but if it doesn't start , just keep waiting.

I know this is going to be a pretty unpopular opinion on here, but Boyd at Fullback through the back end of last year was actually not too bad. It was certainly an improvement on Isaako and Milford playing back there last year.

He wasn't good relative to most NRL Fullbacks, but he was by no means our worst player either, and I thought his sweeping plays were some of the only times we ever looked like scoring outside of Kotoni Staggs doing something freakish.

I think his departure might actually be a slightly underrated problem looming on the horizon for us this year given we didn't bother to recruit a Fullback. Culturally though we are probably far better off without him now though.

This is hard to argue.

We won't miss him.

Were there any good fullbacks available that we could afford? I think this year is the year to decide whether Isaako or Tesi are worth persisting with as potential fullbacks, or we move on to Walsh or look at who is available for next year.

I'm thinking Isaako starts with Walsh in q cup and niu in centres (our stocks of centres is pretty low). We move Walsh to fullback later in the year if he handles the level below well.
That would be my take on it but who knows at this point?
If niu doesn't perform with the cowboys it opens the door to others.

Can Walsh play this year or do we have to jump though Roosters Only hoops?

I'd have been happy to have a shot at Corey Allan. I don't see why a two year deal for him at $300-400k would have represented bad value.

I'm unconvinced that he's going to be elite or anything at this stage, but he's more than serviceable for what we needed to be competitive over the next two years whilst Isaako/Walsh/Niu had a chance to put their hands up. Who knows, in that time Allan might be playing at a level that blows the others away himself too.

As it stands if Isaako shits the bed and either Tesi or Walsh aren't ready to go, we're in for a world of hurt in a very important spine role.

I'm totally with you on this. I can't believe we didn't go for him. I don't care if Walsh is going to be a superstar, we need succession planning. In two years, if Allan is the best fullback in the comp, you have a pleasant decision to make between him and Walsh. As it currently stands, we saw what Walsh did and now we're all like, wow! but give him time to mature in Qld Cup but settle for watching Isaako Josh Hoffman it up for the next 6 months and purely hope Walsh comes on as well as we hope he does. If he doesn't, man we are screwed.

Exactly. Look, we may have been well short on price for Allan, but it was at absolute minimum worth a shot. We have literally nothing to lose.

The fact we're already pinning our hopes on a mostly unproven 18 year old kid that most of us have hardly seen play at all, despite the fact he's likely behind Isaako who hasn't played a game yet and is already looking at being replaced, really speaks volumes about how abjectly poor our recruitment work has been.

It's simply inexcusable that it's come down to just these two guys to carry us in the Fullback role this year and to suggest otherwise is giving the club far too easy a pass. Even the mud clubs managed to mostly get their Fullback spot right. The Tigers left it later than us and still managed to jag Dane Laurie.

I would have gone with Benji too as he wouldn't have cost much, though he may well have wanted to stay in Sydney.

Probably could have got him for minimum wage. I think you'd argue it's more about what he brings culturally than what he produces on field these days, but for that sort of money he's basically competing with someone like Gamble or Billy Walters for a spot and you'd argue he probably offers a little more than those guys.
