For R1.......it was much better effort from the boys. First half they were unstoppable, but FMD Parra were shit. Once we opened the door and they got their shit together.......our resolve seemed to falter. Our defensive pattern still seems to be one that sits back on their heels and wait for the attacker to come to them.

Thought TPJ offered very little during the time he was on.

No surpise to see Milford controlling the game and firing on all cylinders whilst we did have the ascendency. As with all halves.......once the forward pack stopped going forward....he started to struggle. Couple kicks there in the 2nd half, he and the coach should look at and ask themselves....WTF?

None the less....good signs from Milford re R1.

I don't understand people having a go at Crofts overall game. I thought he played fairly well.

I would love to see him get involved in our kicking game more, still too much Milford kicking for me.

Our bombs to the corner (from both halves) need 10m more distance on them also. Hard to be overly critical of the 2nd half kick chase however when the players are gassed due to no reserves to swap them with.

He was alright but his IQ and for that matter the whole teams iq needs to increase a little bit and we will be a force to be reckoned with

That is really unfair. You want to drop a player for one mistake? You’d be dropping all of Milford, Flegler, Carrigan, Riki, Mead, Farnworth and Isaako.

Croft wasn’t perfect but he was one of the better players last night. Will be one of the first picked next week and rightly so. Put it this way, he showed more last night than Dearden did most of last year.
Does anyone have a time stamp for that no try in Kayo. I thought Croft set us rolling down the field in the first place and Milford almost muffed it himself by being slower than he should be and not passing to his support when they had the best chance. Offloading it to Croft flat footed limited Crofts options and the drop\ kick was the icing on the cake. I was half working half watching so a bit sketchy on the details.

Herbie was. Not sure what I make of Tesi at center yet.
I think Tesi got some good ball to put him 1v1, but he just wasnt able to beat Opa's defence.

I dont think that's a negative because Opa is a great defender and against lesser centres he could have some pretty decent days

Riki apparently missed 10 tackles last night, hopefully he sees less time next week.
I dont think Riki was ever intended to play 80mins straight up.

With Asiata on the bench I think it's intended he plays 60min. I also get the feeling that TPJ is intended to move to an edge for his last stint each game, initially Riki's edge until he gets up to speed and then Glenn's edge later in the year

We SO need a leader in this team. A Lockyer, Smith cool head type in the team and we ice that game.

I don't think a leader as you described would have helped much in offsetting that horrendous injury toll, however, in general, absolutely spot on.

I am starting to wonder if Asiata will fill that role. I felt we lost direction and a cohesion when he went off. I was impressed with him and feel he should be in the starting 17, at lock and Carrigan to the bench, or prop while Lodge recovers, if in fact he does. Lodge is a real worry. As others observed, I wonder if his body is just unsuited to the way the game is being played now.

It was at 17:30 to go.
I think we really got dudded there. I think the ref said no try based on him believing it was a knock on from Croft. I think if he thought that was OK, he would have awarded a try with it being reviewed under the new system. Much more chance then that Turpin‘s put down would be Ok’d.

He didn’t miss to many normal tackles it was when he and 3 other blokes chased the kick and he could only get a hand on him rather than a good shot it happened a couple times... not to worrying considering he was one of few with kick chase effort but still could be fixed a little

Think he was solid, nothing against opa but I think Copley is a much rounded player.

Copely if he had better hands and wasnt always injured would have been a very good center. His biggest issue though has always been his defence. Similar to Staggs in that respect, very effective in attack but not so much with his defence.

How's this for a shot of your two most experienced players worried about the ref while Fergo makes a break down the sideline.

I hope Kevvie tells the boys it is not acceptable to be switching off before the whistle is blown if you want to play first grade footy. Our captain and Te'o (who is known to tell others off when they don't do good enough) were both facing the referee and stopped chasing when Ferguson made the break after what looked like a knock-on. Isaako had also relaxed and that's why Fergo was able to get outside him and put an easy kick in for Gutherson who was unmarked because Glenn and Te'o hadn't bothered to chase. Glenn and Te'o should be embarrassed that Riki, who was defending on the other side, was the one who bothered to chase.

At least with Kevvie there is hope that players will be held accountable for this kind of garbage but it's still a concern that we see this from our captain. Just play the whistle ffs, we learnt that when we were 5 years old. Other than this, I thought we looked like we will be able to compete this year and are headed in the right direction.

Best you watch it again, Milford had gutherson infront of him so he had to pull up.

Effort effort... this is a professional sport with professional athletes. Players putting effort in is a bare minimum standard, not something to be amazed by. Pats on the back for having a go, lord almighty. What would Craig Bellamy say after conceding an 18 point lead, ‘Good effort, really appreciated it’? For whatever reason the guys fall to pieces defensively once the other team gets a foot in the door. Why is this happening? How’s can they fix it?

You heard from me first: we use Asiata in a starting 17 we lose the points every time (mainly because of having four extra players on the field. Other than that I agree)
