Broncos positivity thread

I'm happy the Dragons got the win even if its only against the Cowboys. I've been following them a bit since Hunt went there and kinda like Dufty and Lomax. Now McCullough too. Not sure how i feel about J.Bird lasting two games for them. Feldt had two goes at him.
 
We're probably closer to winning a comp than the Titans and Cowboys are (only because we can clean our squad out soonish), that's a positive I guess.
 
Unlike many on the forum I don't believe the sky is falling. Sproj wrote something that got me thinking. He saw the oncoming stretch of games against top flight teams as possibly destroying already mentally defeated younger players.

I imagined what remained in such a scenario and to me, that was the strong. The hard bastards who simply refuse to be broken. I'm really looking forward to these games. They absolutely will tell us where we are and will expose the areas in which we need improvement.

This current Broncos team has talent and there's not much wrong with it overall. We had a couple of players who let us down, Milford and Asiata and injury played a part in Asiata's case. Carrigan was also a bit off and a couple of errors instantly cost us but we simply were not too bad. Seeing the game later, not influenced by babbling commentary and taking the time to rewind plays gives a much much deeper understanding of what was poor and what was acceptable through to excellent.

Aside from poor misses from Nui and Asiata we were a little unlucky. That chip kick that resulted in a try could so easily have bounced away from the attacker giving the try diffuser the edge, it was just unfortunate it favoured the Titans. No matter, the rest of the team were pretty good at times. It isn't as bad as some think and we're getting closer to winning consistently and in fact I believe the swing back is imminent.

I think the sky well and truly has fallen, not sure how much worse it could really get but that aside, I generally agree that there are a lot of positives.

The boys definitely show far more resilience than they did last year. The issue is terrible ball control, unforced errors, and abysmal game management puts them under insane amounts of pressure, which they actually did a really commendable job of defending against the titans but eventually it gets too much and it leads to these short periods in which the oppositions scores multiple points that make the game unwindable. Of the games were 60 minutes long and you removed the 10 each side of half time we win both games. Which is a vast improvement on last year where we would go on to concede 40+ score lines.

It really comes down to our spine, Isaako (although he had some great runs for good metres) makes too many errors or kills plays, Croft can’t kick, and Milford has no idea what game management means or how to even attempt to defend.

A new fullback and half would go such a long way to improving this team. Not even just your Tedesco and Munsters. Kodi Nikorima and Val Holmes could almost make this team smokies for the top 8. It sickens me to say it but Mitch Pearce could transform the team over night.

I admit Croft isn't the absolute top shelf but I don't feel he's the problem. He could easily work in with a commanding 5/8 and in my opinion is perfectly serviceable as a half back.

I agree. He reminds of Chad Townsend before he inexplicably became an actual decent half. A player lucky to be in first grade but does the basics well enough to justify his cheap contract in an otherwise good spine. The issue is, he’s being expected to play at a higher level than he is capable of because the rest of the spine (bar Turpin) is completely useless. That being said, last season he wasn’t even getting the basics right and his defence was terrible.

Was it, I mean was his defence terrible last season? We all know halves are targeted and no halfback has great stats when compared to other positions. I'm not arguing here about last seasons tackle stats fir Croft, I don't know what they are. I'll have to go look somewhere...any suggestions on where to get them?

I’m not sure of the stats, but he definitely wasn’t passing the eye test. Very meek attempts. He has vastly improved so far this year and I’m happy to blame Seibold and the rest of the teams performance.

He was going fine up until the tigers game in round 10 then his form fell off a cliff.

Most on here will point to his poor attempts in that tigers game, specifically the effort on Luciano where he only stuck a hand out

Some good points in here @Huge If 2015 Milf plays in these games, we’re an even chance of being 2 and 0 today.

TBF, if I hadn’t read the previous posts, your post could describe almost all of the Broncos players from last year at one point or another (or multiple points each week for some).

I said it after round 1 and round 2 did nothing to change my mind. Our defence is mentally weak. I think that’s due to some players poor attitudes, whilst others are just massively down on confidence and need a win.

It wasn't that bad, especially when compared to Milford who was woeful. Milf missed more tackles than Croft despite Brodie having to make 185 more tackles.

Milford 112 tackles and missed 35
Brodie 297 tackles and missed 28
Dearden 239 tackles and missed 25

Milford has already missed 12 tackles this season and made 24, Croft missed only 3 and made 47.

Not looking good for ol' Milf.
