What's the worst case scenario at the moment?...Transplant the entire PNG Hunters spine in?

If we don't land a superstar half? Do we go after a superstar spine mentor like Andrew Johns or Cameron Smith? Or persist with Milford?

It seems like we're going hard for 1. Moses, 2. ARey then 3. SJ

You'd think favourites so far would be Moses staying at parra (but they may run out of cap and I could see us throwing $1m at him), Reynolds to sharks, which leaves SJ either for us or tigers.

Tigers are probably the dark horse if they punt Brooks, because they would be in play for Reynolds or SJ... but they just got Hastings. Talk of turning him into a lock, but I dont recall him being a big running half before he left.

I dont think sharks can have Reynolds and SJ without destroying their cap.

I think SJ could partner well with Croft, but not so much Milf.

Worst case would be getting stuck with Brooks... I dont think he works for Croft or Milf

We need to get some spine players that have history playing together I think. Not sure how much Croft played with Drinkwater but Drinkwater at 1 and Croft at 7 might not be so bad. Look at the huge difference it’s made for st George having players who have played a lot together. Most of the good clubs have their spine who have played together a lot too. Really helps. I think if at all possible would be awesome to try and get 2 players from a club. Hynes and Smith from storm come to mind.

Apparently para going after Gagai, and bulldogs have signed Naden so probably means Staggs is staying with us.

Moses in Brisbane would be an unmitigated disaster.

His entire career has been characterised by an inability to deal with pressure and an inability to be effective unless the players around his are dominating.

Paying him $1m, taking him away from Sydney and handing him the sole responsibility of turning around the biggest, most highly publicised and most intensely scrutinised team in the league in a one-team fishbowl when that team around him is in absolute shambles would not be a wise move.

I agree, however i have this reoccurring nightmare we sign Brooks, so i would take Moses and even SJ just to avoid that scenario playing out.

In terms of spine players, no idea if this would work (also couldn't find a fullback) but if we run out of better ideas...

6. Billy Walters
7. Cooper Johns
9. Lachlan Lam
13. Jack Johns
14. Lachlan Lewis

It seems like Kevvie is after proven players for the spine... no more project players.

If the rumours of us going for Moses are true he would be a massive get. He's a wank on the field (although he would be our wank), but he's a good kicker, a goal kicker and when he wants to he can be a great playmaker. He's also 26.

I think Kevvie wants an experienced half to lead the team and then a cut price Milf at 6.

Even if we go Moses for $1m and Milf for $400k we're basically spending the same cash on the halves that we are this year.

If Staggs goes to eels that's $700k to throw at a fullback (::cough:: Drinkwater ::cough::).

The last step would be a hooker and if BSmith stays in Melbourne next year then he's available for 2023 no trades required... Grant also available for 2023. Turps off contract end of next year.

BSmith or Grant are probably costing you somewhere in the vicinity of $600-$800k and $1m plus respectively, which may be why they're wanting to punt Lodge and his $700k.

Within 2yr you go from the worst spine in the comp to what could be a seriously competitive spine.

1. Drinkwater
6. Milf (cut price deal)
7. Moses/ Reynolds/ SJ
9. BSmith / Grant

Huge investment in the spine rather than hoping a prospect reaches their potential.

Moses or Reynolds should be priority number 1, but SJ wouldnt be the worst signing for our halves. He probably cant partner with Milf, but he could potentially work well with Croft (Croft basically doing the Chad role)
You can't fill the hole spine with quality and the fact Kevvie has let Dearden and walsh walk , it seems like he's chasing a 7 and 1.
Simpkin is a good kid and I really don't rate any of the 9's at our club.

unproven but at least there's 3 QLD players in there

I don't believe we are after moses. We don't need flash, we need control & discipline.

Funny that Turpin has a PO for next year and there’s been zero talk of interest from other clubs. Maybe he is actually loyal and isn’t having his manager drag our nuts over rusty nails or maybe no one wants him.

Souths would suggest otherwise (Latrell, Walker, Reynolds and Cook)

As would Storm with the big 3 (Slater, Cooper and CS9) and Roosters with Teddy, Keary & Cooper.

Manly in the past with Foran, DCE and Stewart

I would say you almost have to spend big on at least 3/4 spine positions.

The spine I put forward looks for savings at fullback and 6 (Milf on a cut price deal), but those cheaper players with quality around them become more than serviceable

If so they are using the Jennings money, which would indicate Gagai in, Moses to be topped up with the remaining.
