State of Origin 2022

Opacic should not even be discussed. He is so far down the pecking order. Holmes, Gagai, Hammer, Fermor and Capewell all way ahead of him.
Tommy has been close a couple of times and i think he'd actually do a good job. If Green wasnt coach he would have played last year. He isnt top tier and has limitations, but he would do everything you would want from a player in Origin. He just does all the little things, doesnt give up on plays and he's tough.

None of them have done anything at center tbh outside of the odd good game here and there. Capwell has had one good game pretty much in the centers at Origin, the rest he just showed his limitations, and i think we need him in the forwards anyway. Gagai and Holmes are our main wingers in Origin anyway, so it would be madness to move either imo. I think Holmes has been rubbish with a couple of big moments in the centers so far. Fermour and Capewell as basically back rowers who can fill in at a pinch. I thought Hammer was decent in Origin, would be interesting to see if he can play a role like Turbo.

Holmes and Gagai have been great in the centres this year. Just need to pick some decent wingers next to them.

I think Holmes has been ordinary ( apart from against us ), but i guess he's still learning the position. He tends to get out of position but i do like how he goes looking for the ball in attack.

Problem is, our decent Wingers in Origin are Gagai and Holmes 😄

My side would be something like this if everyone was fit. Think we need some fresh blood in there. I like Luki, reminds me a little of Gillett. The back line is tricky especially the centers. In reality, you would like to have Gagai and Holmes on the wing. Gagai on the wing in Origin is just a beast. We are still really light on center options which is why Gagai will probably be there. There are more than likely 3 or 4 genuine options for the left center spot you could interchange. I think with the Xfactor we have in our potential wingers, i think we can carry just a player who will get the basics right and compete. Welch is a big loss.

Sami goes under the radar a little. He's been decent this year so far.

Best he's ever been. He's fit and extremely agile, we need proper x-factor players out wide, he's one of them. Added bonus that he's been there before, so won't be overawed by the situation.

Holmes and Gagai have just been so good on the wing. Gagai is just a totally different player in Origin on that right wing and for whatever reason he never seems to hit the same levels in the center. We dont have anyone else even close to those two as wingers really.

I think with Billy as coach and Smith involved now, wouldnt be surprised if they take a leaf out of the Storm playbook and pick some players they know will just do the job without much fuss and try to integrate a bit of X-factor where they can.

I would be telling Ponga that if he wants to play Origin, he needs to increase his involvement.

They'll put Holmes in the centres before they put Opacic there, then go for someone with raw speed like Tabuai-Fidow to play on the wing

He's one of those players though who steps up for QLD.

Not really.

He had a couple of good moments in the second half of Game 1, 2019 but apart from that he hasn't done much else.

He went into Game 2 and got completely outplayed.

Game 2 last year? He only played the last game.

He's always had reasonably decent games for QLD in the scheme of things ( and he's only played 4 or 5 iirc ). Trying to say he got outplayed in a game we were dominated in as well if you are talking about 2019 isnt really a good example. The whole team got outplayed.

You wouldn't happen to know Opacic personally would you? Cuz this kind of talk makes it sound like you do.

I just think he wouldn't let anyone down if he got a chance. While he's got a lot of flaws in his game, he's also got a fair bit you would want. Look at his try saver on Turpin last year. He really had no right to even be there considering he was a left centre and he came all the way back to the right ride to deny him. He does the effort plays and 1 percenters.

That's not enough to get a spot in origin unless we have bulk injuries.
