OFFICIAL Walsh signs with the Broncos until 2025

I love Walsh as a player, but if we get him now imo we can’t play him for a couple of weeks at least. He needs to get accustomed to our team. TMM and Niu both trained with our team in the pre-season and know all our plays, whereas I find it risky having a new fullback with no training with the team slot straight in. As someone whos played in the spine as a halfback and hooker, it takes at least a month of playing together to know exactly where your fullback likes to pop up and for him to know where the team would like him.

Plus I’m not convinced he’s currently better than Tesi. This isn’t a comment on potential, just current level.

I also don’t want the Storm getting any help whatsoever

He looked very checked out when he took the field today. Maybe it is best that we get him next season so he comes with a clean slate mentality.
They chucked a 20 year old kid on at fullback with 10 minutes to go after they lost the lead and all momentum and said “pull something out of your ass”. It wasn’t fair to put that on Walsh, he’s been under way too much pressure at the Warriors.

His kick defusing was terrible though and that’s a real concern.

Yep well he stuffed them around so now they are doing the same back to him, can’t blame them. I just really worry about the kid. He has oodles of potential but he also seems really immature and not really willing to fight/work to reach it. I really hope I’m wrong.

Warriors should just release him on the agreement that he doesn't play NRL again this year, we can bring him at training and get a head start on 2023. He plays at QCUP and trains at the Broncos.

Pie in the sky stuff I know.

His kick defusal is usually fine... he'll often compete on bombs and take them... in the same way that Ponga comes away with contested bombs

I dunno if we get Walsh this season or not and it doesn't worry me too much but the way the Warriors are treating him right now is something he probably won't forget in the years to come

He made his bed. He was the one that wanted an NRL spot now. He made the move. The Warriors thought they had a 10+ year fullback in him but I don't think he ever had the intention of moving to NZ for the long term. He fucked us around and now he has done the same to the Warriors in basically only his 2nd year of NRL. I've got no sympathy for him, it's all on him. He's very lucky we have taken him back to be honest.

Hopefully he grows up a bit from this and puts his head down and works hard. He has talent, but that only gets you so far. I hope he knuckles down and learns from this experience. I'm not sold on the kid but will love to be proven wrong.

Fucked us around? It wasn't like he was tooing and froing on a decision. He wanted to play in the NRL and left. Pretty simple.

I have sympathy for him. Moving to a different country, and away from your young child, is pretty bloody tough. There would be very few who would make such a move.

Tesi Niu:

“I can’t wait for the competition. Reece is a good player, but if I have a good pre-season under my belt, hopefully I can stay at fullback. I will see what happens with the fullback spot. Reece is coming here and it will be good healthy competition. It’s great for the Broncos to have that depth."
“I remember Reece from the Broncos juniors. We came through together and I have missed having him here, so it will be good to see him back. He is a freak talent for his age. People forget just how young Reece is when you see what he is doing at that age."
“Whoever gets the jumper, gets it, but right now all I can do is play good consistent footy for the Broncos leading into the finals and if I play well, I’ll put my best foot forward. Fullback is my preferred position. Wherever ‘Kevvie’ wants me to play, I’ll do my job for the team, but I do enjoy the space at fullback.”
“I came back in pre-season a bit overweight. With everything that happened with my dad, I didn’t have the best preparation, I was going through a lot. But I worked hard to get my weight down and play some good footy. My dad was my biggest fan and my biggest critic, too. He watched every game and after every game, he would message me with paragraphs on my game, what I did well and what I could work on. I am doing all this for him and I hope he is up there watching, proud of me.”
“I used to love watching Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and I also like James Tedesco. They are two guys who are always involved and I want to build my game on that effort. I work pretty hard on my fitness because if you want to be a long-term fullback, you can’t get comfortable in the NRL. You have to keep improving yourself and one thing dad drilled into me is don’t get complacent … because there is always someone else wanting your jersey.”

Broncos trainer Mark ‘Chopper’ Burgess:
“I can tell you — no-one at this club does extras like Tesi Niu does extras. He wants that No. 1 jumper and he will do anything to keep it. People talk about Tesi under the high ball. At training the other day, he stayed back an extra hour catching bomb after bomb after bomb. I have a massive wrap on him as a person."
“He came back to pre-season a bit overweight, but with his day dying, that’s understandable. His dad was a fitness fanatic and Tesi idolised him. He was crying in front of me saying: ‘Chop, my best friend is gone’. Losing his dad was devastating but I have a saying, ‘Hard work works’. I can’t fault his attitude. Tesi is busting his guts to be the best player he can be.”

Adam Reynolds:

“Tesi has been great since his return. He had a nasty hamstring injury and to see him work hard to get better and perform the way he has since he has come back, it’s a sign of his professionalism. With Reece Walsh coming here, it’s a good headache to have at fullback. I’m not sure what Kevvie is going to do.”

I was going to say almost exactly the same thing, except not the bit about the Warriors placing the rule on him, in my mind it's just our choice.
If we can get him now, and he wants to come because it's better for his mental health or whatever, and he's happy to just be part of the club, training etc but that's it - I say do it

Bellamy on poaching Walsh:

“We’d like to do that, but at the end of the day, we’re running out of time. There are other clubs who have got other players and they don’t want to release them. We will still look if we still can, but whether that happens or not, I’m not going to be involved with that. My job is to coach the team and to coach the players that we’ve got here at the moment. That’s what I’m concentrating on at the moment.”

Harry Grant:

“I was in camp with Reece and he’s a really good fella. He’s a great football player and he’d be an asset to any team but I don’t think that’s looking likely. He’d fit in here because he brings a lot of x-factor, but Nick Meaney has done a great job for us and he was awesome for us again. I think the club’s in a position where they do have an extra spot. They’ve done pretty well to keep the number 30 spot available and they’re obviously going to have to fill that by the end of the month. We’re going to have to sign someone, so we’re going to welcome whoever that is.”
“We’ve got a group here who works really hard and has a lot of trust in each other. It’s just going to be a team effort to prioritise where we’re going and what we need to do over the next few weeks. We just need to make some small changes. “We all know the footy that we can play, but we’ve just got to get back to playing it. We need to simplify a lot of things within the game to free up our strike players to give them the opportunities to perform.”

Thanks McHunt .
I have a soft spot for Tesi . I see great potential . Best FB since Darius IMO .

Note he only referred to Walsh and not TMM ?

Well I can see why Kevvie likes him. I can't see TMM being picked at fullback now which is a shame because he fits the style of our team better imo.

Yeah I agree even though I am a fan of Tesi. It is interesting though because I don't think TMM will be with us much longer, maybe even within the week gone. However, I feel like he is the best all round player of the three options (including Walsh as he will be with us likely within the week) currently. That said, in attack Tesi is an absolute weapon. He makes mistakes sure but I also think that is because he has so much in his bag of tricks, similar to Ezra. If we could somehow fix Tesi's defensive awareness, well he might well be a better player than Reece.
