Sorry, I should have said better than the realistic options that are on barely any money. Even then, I would rate very few of those players as better options than Billy Walters, which again says a lot more about the quality of hooker in the competition than it does about Billy's abilities.

In saying that, how is he not first grade standard? He literally played more first grade games than any other Bronco this year. I'd be curious to see which players you'd rate above him. Technically if you can name 16 current NRL hookers that are better than him, maybe even 32 considering most teams have a backup hooker on the bench which is still a first grade player, I'll allow you to have this win. I'll be waiting.
As far as NRL hookers that are better than Walters, if we are just asking as general question and not about signings etc, I would rate the following better than Billy in no particular order:

Api
Grant
Hunt
B Smith
Hodgeson
Robson
Mahoney
Brayley
Watson
Verellis
Paix
Granville

Then you have guys are similar to Walters or slightly above

JMK
Simpkins
Liddle
Woolford
Starling
Croker
Boyd
I’d even say Turpin is comparable

Turpin is better. His form fell off a cliff once kevvie got here and declared his son a target signing. I think he knew the writing was on the wall for him last year sometime. Why else would you ask for a release?

You’d have to ask the coach about that. He should have been dropped to qcup after paix and Turpin dominated the parra game.
I don't recall either having strong games, in fact I remember Turpin making an early mistake to give the Eels early momentum.
Don't mistake me being fine with him being in the squad over wanting him to be our starting 9. Someone should be better than him, but at this point there's not many better actual options. And if we are running the club expecting Kevvie to be fired we should have sacked him already.
You might not even use that spot for a 9. That's a spot that could be used to upgrade a quality prospect who just kills it in QCup or a player who falls out with a club and would be an immediate upgrade. I think we both agree that it's not breaking the bank, but ideally it should have been a one year deal and take it from there.

I still think the inconvenient truth is that Paix isn't as good as how some rate him on here.

You should watch it again then bp. He made 1 early mistake. Carrigan’s mistake then waste of challenge was what gave the the early momentum.

Laugh all you want @Foordy. Turpin is 5 years younger and played a shitload more first grade than billy who is approaching 30 and only ever played a full year under his dad.

JP's defence also didn't help matters, but I recall Patty throwing a good offload to Haas to set up a try. What did Turpin actually do to dominate the game? I remember Mam and Tesi were far more pivotal.

doesn't make Turpin good ... or even better than Billy.

I mean Billy played the first half of his career at the Storm, a side that has had a superstar spine for 15 years.

If you are trying to convince us that you don't have an agenda, then you can make outlandish comments like you just did ... it's a dead giveaway

Based on what he's produced in first grade? About as good as Billy, if not worse considering the tougher initiation. His biggest attribute right now is his age, otherwise he's rarely lived up to the hype.
If you watch our earlier season games I believe there is a stark difference in our momentum when Paix is on the field compared to Turpin or Walters. Still has flaws and goes to slop when he gets gassed but his service at its best os the best of the 3 hookers this season imo.

Billy is the smarter player due to experience and age but Paix needs game time to improve his fitness levels and consistency. I think we have more or less seen Billy’s ceiling which I don’t think is true for Paix.

Regardless, I think they are a fine pairing if you get the rotation correct. An upgrade to either would be great though.

Mozer looked like a fantastic prospect but his form when stepping up a grade resulted in plenty of cause for concern. He may force his way into the squad but I don’t see it happening next season.

Round 19 vs Eels

Turpin
19 tackles
1 missed tackle
1 error
0 run metres
0 tries/assists
0 linebreaks/assists

Paix
17 tackles
1 missed tackle

0 tries/assists
0 linebreaks/assists

Dominant.

That's the issue with Paix, he can provide crisper service but he rarely put it together to actually have a strong performance. I can really only recall the Bulldogs game as a starring effort. So it's one thing to have him over Billy, another to have him above some of those other names.

i meant they dominated in terms of what our other hooking stocks came up with when returning…maybe they just had a better chemistry as a team.

There’s a reason for that mate…..he wasn’t wanted elsewhere. Until the the tigers came along.

foordy you have the biggest agenda of anyone on the forum… to aggressively defend the club’s honour and try to convince everyone everything they do is as close to perfect as can possibly be. Nobody is fooled by you.

Our best win of the season imo. Curious if anyone disagrees? It was a team harmony/chemistry thing. we looked like we actually belonged in the top 4. You don’t change a winning formula.

I actually think it was Jordan Pereira on the wing that galvanised the team that night and when he was dropped it destroyed the morale of the team.

I agree with you regarding him putting it all together. If I’m keeping one of the 2 players it is Paix hands down.

Same but calling a spade a spade, it's based largely on potential more than performance.

Or was his dad a coach at the storm in that period as well?
Signed with Melbourne in 2017 when Kevie was coaching Queensland.

I believe Kevie left Melbourne around 2012/13. He linked up with Wayne at Newcastle before they both came to Brisbane together. Don't forget that fans on here thought Kevie was the 2015 mastermind.
