Cobbo: “I think he’s a nice guy but not a good coach”

How long does Kebbie have to prove he's more than just a good friend?

Media bans for the entire team except Reynolds. Don't let them on any podcasts that aren't affiliated with the club, especially if it's a bunch of nobodies. Cobbo is now third string fullback and should probably be starting the season in Q Cup. What an idiot.

What an off-season!

Can’t wait for Round 1 to see what ragtag squad of those left standing *insert coaches name here* can manage to squabble together 😂

Surely things won’t get bad enough that said coach will need to select Riki…

Agreed, the podcast Cobbo went on had something like 200 views in like 3 months before the Kevie comments surfaced now it's got 4600k, was the same deal with Tyson's one. These "nobodies" who are trying to make a career off podcasts ask the questions that hopefully the answer will get them views.
Going by Selwyns interviews on 9 after games throughout the year the club should of put him on a complete media ban til he got some sort of media training.

If what 1910 said is true, then a media ban wouldn't have mattered because Cobbo didn't have permission to go on that podcast anyway.

I listened to the whole podcast, seems like all Cobbo and the others he's with have been doing in NZ is drinking. They were drinking before he came on the podcast.

At the end of the day you have to put the whole thing in context. Cobbo seems to be a kid who lacks the real world experience to be on a podcast. Sounds like he was struggling being away from home, struggles to get up and be on time to his job, struggles to follow road rules, struggles to deal with the pressure of NRL and stuggles to tell a lie when needed. He is a country kid. I think what he thinks is good and what we would consider good are not the same thing. It appeared a good coach to him is Bellamy, or maybe Slater who he experienced in Origin. Maybe what we would consider being a great coach. I felt he see's Kev as an OK coach but more of a good bloke.

I don't think that is a surprise to be honest. Kev is not the best communicator, he seems to make calls based on emotion and strange ideals. I think he would be a puzzling guy to get an answer out of. The type of guy you ask about how he wants you to play or what he wants you to do and he says "just keep being Cobbo" and revs you a week later for for not doing enough hit ups. I think we have seen a few kids, Dearden being one who seemed to just not know what Kev wants from them. The Ikin situation is also a big red flag as communication broke down there and we all know how well Ikin communicates.

Kev knowing this kid and all the ins and outs should just let this not bother him at all. Maybe he should reflect on it and take a humble look at how he approaches his messaging. These may be dumb comments said by a naive kid who struggles to communicate but there is something there that a leader would use to improve themselves. The worst thing Kev could do is take offense in my opinion, accept the apology and move on.

I think we all know Kev and the club must have an excellent year for him to remain on further. We will see soon enough if Kev's done all he can and his limit has been reached. But until we see live ball I am not counting the club out as there is enough talent here to carry us to a final. It remains to be seen tha even if we secure a finals berth, that Kev will get another year. For me communication is the biggest factor in being a head coach. This is Kevs biggest weakness, he has heart, loves the club, is loyal, was an excellent player and a great bloke. But at the end of the day if he can't communicate he will fail as a coach.

Kev should’ve surrounded himself with better support staff BUT he didn’t do that. We need 1 or 2 hard nosed person from the coaching staff for our dumb players to be in a line.

Kev himself is not a hard nosed person & neither are his support staff. I thought he would be smart to get help in this aspect but he chose not to.

IF we come to a point where Kev had to be moved, it will be his own doing.

yep it's business, need to be ruthless.

It's got nothing to do with being ruthless, Norths had him signed up until end of 23 and they let him go to Leeds three games into their premiership defence with 21, 22 and 23 to go on his contract.

I would expect a SL club to do the same thing if someone got an NRL head role.

Norths could have said, talk to Leeds for 24 but it would have been a terrible move.

If you don't sit this wanker out, the next wanker will do the same. The Broncos should have come down hard, ripped him a new one in the media.

Wanna play silly buggers with journos? Watch what contacts the club has to ruin your week with in the media.

Weak *****. He will play round one and the problem will continue.

When Kevvie leaves it needs to be handled well and I believe it will be. For mine his time is up when his contract is up. DD will need to do it in a way that Kevvie feels respected and for mine I would be moving him into another role in the business, we can't afford another fallout with the old boys. Essentially you need a situation where Kevvie is fully onboard and Gordie and the other dickheads can crow about what a great job he did and how the time is right. The club needs to be searching for the next coach now and the official line needs to be that Kevvie came in here with the express duty to unite a club that was torn apart and put some of the 'Bronco' back into the building. Having achieved that he will be moving into bah blah blah...

I'm not sure being a blabbering dildo is formally punishable. What would the charge be?

Today's quote in the CM slams him for pissing off at half time against the Eels:

“I sat out that game. They make you go to the game and I left at halftime because we were getting flogged. I just sneaked out.”

Totally different situation and you know that.

If clubs started standing in the way of assistants getting head coaching roles no coach with aspirations would take up the assistant roles.
Rohan Smith is the Head Coach of the Leeds Rhinos, a top tier Super League team. He can't just piss off because the Brisbane Broncos fans have a swollen sense of entitlement.
