Soccer is a shit TV sport. Their whole culture is about game days. The UK is absolutely bonkers cultrually around soccer.

League is not really a great live sport compared to AFL or Soccer where there is heaps of off the ball actions. Also rain.

Its a brilliant TV sport, hence why its the most watched sport in the world both live and on TV. These days, while attendances are still through the roof, its not like it used to be. Since the invention of the Premier League game days are very different because they decimated the 3pm, Saturday afternoon kick off times. The go to the pub for a pint then watch the game, then go to the pub for more pints after the game has been taken away from a lot of top flight football fans with the kick off time changes. One thing i do miss over here is going to the Footy. I find fans over here too passive and too quiet. The atmosphere is lacking and i cant put my finger on why really.

We do love football in the UK though. Its crazy to think there are clubs in the 4th tier of English football that get bigger crowds than NRL clubs. I dont know if anyone has ever seen them, but just Google Hackney Marshes football. Its crazy to see something like 80 pitches all next to each other for teams to play on and they are full on saturdays and sundays.

You can't compare English football fans to rugby league fans.

No matter how passionate league fans are ... English soccer fans are in another atmosphere

I do still think in terms of attendance, we should be able to sell out a big game. Could be just that its something i'm used to and even after living here i still cant get used to it.

the real reality here is that the nrl is just not a very good sport to watch live. other then that atmosphere you get and sheer love of seeing your team in person its a pretty average viewing experience. its just the nature of how the game is and nothing will change that.

its leaps and bounds better to watch on tv especially since hd television became a thing. its not even close.

I think its a little unfair to compare it to soccer. Even though its not my thing i fully understand why its the biggest sport in the world and nothing will ever change that

Had to watch the replay as there was a multicar accident on albany creek road which killed power for 4hours... goooooood.

Stoked with the win. Definite room for improvement but I think we're just being overly picky atm. 2 wins against 2 premiership contenders to start off the season and the manner in which we did them both in - I think everyone would've snapped your hand off if you were offered that prior to the season starting.

Shocked Drinkwater stayed on the field. Accident or not it's a shoulder charge to the head. 10 mins in the bin is the officials being a bunch of pusses and "not wanting to ruin the contest" imo.

Highlights......yes

A full game?
no.

I think a full game is still brilliant. How can nearly all the world be wrong?

Problem is though, like any sport, you get good and bad. I've seen some terrible games on TV, absolute stinkers and also some brilliant games. Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3 for example back in the day. Brilliant game, brilliant drama. If you dont like football though it wont make a difference. You wont watch it. I cant stand cricket or AFL so i wont really bother with it.

Not enough talk in this thread on how sad we are we lost Dearden and kept Mam after Deardens revenge game……….😏
Dearden will always be the most losing halfback in Broncos history. What was it 2 wins in 30 games or something? He sucks.

Enjoy him Cows.

I dont miss Dearden, but i cant say i dislike him and i dont get the hate for him really. I dont think his relative failure was on him. We just put him in before he was ready and it hurt him.

@tom Dearden

and yet brandy and blockers opinion just now is drinkwater is unlucky to get 3 and should be less.

blocker is an idiot so you can forgive him but im so sick of brandy and his stupid bias. if that was a penrith player he would be pushing his agenda to give minimum 8 weeks.

pathetic.

Pretty sure Brandy went hard at Patty as well tbh.

3 weeks for Drinkwater is pathetic.
I'd like to see at least one change to these rules going forward.

First and foremost - The clubs themselves should be able to report to the MRC and have an explination issued publicly for any incident not charged. This would greatly improve transparency in the process. Some games it's like the MRC scan fox news for any events that stood out and move on, missing many indescretions.

Second - suspending a player is a disinsentive but does nothing to aid a team that suffered as a result of foul play. I'd like to see a rule where if foul play was involved and a player is injured. The offending player must miss the next scheduled game between the two clubs. Why should other teams benefit when the team that suffered the injury get's no gain at all.

Punishment should be a fine based on a percentage of their pay. Suspensions for violent or dangerous actions.

And if, like last night, a player is injured due to dangerous acts such as a shoulder charge to the face, that player should absolutely miss the next game against that team, you’re absolutely correct on that one.
