2023 State of Origin Discussion

I really hope they're stupid enough to select Turbo.

No way he can play in a match with the intensity of Origin in the state that he's in at the moment.

Didn’t you hear? He’s fine, just carrying an injury but not and people just need to get off his back about it.

At this stage this is what I would pick:

1. Walsh
2. Cobbo
3. Holmes
4. Gagai
5. Hammer
6. Munster
7. DCE
8. Papalii
9. Hunt
10. Tino
11. Capewell
12. Kaufusi
13. Carrigan

14. Grant
15. Fotuaika
16. Flegler
17. Fifita

I was leaning away from Papalii at the start of the year but I think he has had a good season this year and I think his experience is a good help there with a young team.

Fotuaika has been having a great season at Titans basically level with Tino in all stats, plus he can do big minutes, this one is hard though because this is the bench position you could use Cotter for and he can cover Lock and Hooker as well if need be and he is an 80 min middle, but he is small and hasn't had the best form this year though he played well last week.

For the bench It was either Flegler or Collins as a bench big middle, I think Fleglers form this year puts him just ahead and he has been very good when he cames on from the bench.

This is just based on form as of round 10 and less on what we picked last year, i think we are a little light at Lock it would probably require Tino coming off a bit early in the first half and him to cover Carrigan later on, possibly even starting on the bench and starting Mo.

There is like 6 changes from last year there looking at it, so that is probably too much, but most of that is forwards that I feel have to be there.

Qld's forward depth this year is ridiculous, you could make two packs of worthy selections (sounds like it should be a chocolate brand)

I like the Hammer selection, I'd also loved to get him in there, can cover any position in the backline. I'd have him comfortably ahead of Coates too. I'd also consider running him out at centre.

A form team would look something like:

1. Walsh
2. Hammer
3. Tass
4. Gagai
5. Cobbo
6. Munster
7. DCE
8. Tino
9. Hunt
10. Flegler
11. Capewell
12. Fifita
13. Carrigan

14. Grant
15. Mo
16. Gilbert
17. Kaufusi

Against the #1 team in the comp with his team being dominated, Trbo had 150 running metres, 3 tackle breaks,3 offloads, 2 linebreak assists and a try assist.

Even busted, he is an elite player and NSW should be picking him.

He fails the eye test though, having a player who looks softer than a marshmallow out there wouldn't be a good idea for origin.

There is still time but each game it seems like a new injury that is hampering him, at first it was the hamstrings supposedly, now it's the groin both of which would hamper his speed.

Has Khan-Pereira declared his allegiance?

He moved up to Gold Coast at 9 years of age and played junior footy up here so he qualifies for QLD. He's been a shining light for the Gold Coast this year and I would have him in the side over Coates.

He is nowhere near Origin. What is peoples obsession with picking blokes for origin after a few games? He isn't an elite talent and is behind off the top of my head without moving people out of position Tuilagi, Hammer, Oates, Coates, Cobbo, Sami, Savage and Tass.

Since when do you need to be an elite talent?

Sometimes people overthink things. Can he score tries? Yes, he can score tries as good as anyone. He's a winger, that's all his job is.

Ok Chris Walker.

Did you just move Tabuai-Fidow and Tass out of position?
Hammer has played as many games on the wing as he has at fullback, Tass sure, take him off the list.
Excellent argument. Top notch.
I didn't think you were making a serious post. Your comment was basically saying we should pick on the wings whoever has scored the most tries that year, so I assumed sarcasm.

Tabuai-Fidow has played nearly twice the amount of games at fullback. I don't think he's ever really focused on the position, it's either been fullback or centre and he's gone onto the wing in the pinch. If you're selecting him for this series, it'd be off his work at the Dolphins where he's been playing fullback.

Hammer should be considered as one of the backups for wing/centre. I wouldn't be picking him in our best side. He is light years ahead of Khan-Pereira.

Tabuai-Fidow is the better option (at least in the centres - Val to wing), but there's nothing wrong with some food for thought either. Khan-Pereira's speed is always going to be an asset, so if he can make better decisions with the football you never know.

I'm sure before 2020 there were a host of players we drew a line through yet Bennett backed them and got the result.

Bennett had no choice in 2020. We have probably 10+ better choices than Khan-Pereira currently.
