If a player with the ball is on the ground and the ball or ball carrying arm has touched the ground and they aren’t trying to get up, the moment you place a hand on them it’s tackle complete.

Munster can’t steal the ball from him without doing it after the tackle is complete.

The contention is that Munster didn't contact the player, he only contacted the ball. Klein had not called surrender like he was supposed to do when it was clear that Mariner was motionless on the ground.

That really sucks about Mariner but the Coates try was pretty great tbh, loved when we had Folau doing exactly that to opponents every week.

Doesn't have to be a finger on him for it to be a surrender tackle.

Can you recall that ever being play on?
That’s just the point @Big Pete.
He fell to the ground. Held the ball up for Munster to take. Nothing wrong with it.
If in fact we’re saying it was a tackle, then it’s a voluntary tackle, not a surrender and for that shit every player should be sent.
After all that, and to be clear, I’m not arguing against the decision (it went in the Broncos favour) just saying what I think if roles were reversed.
Most importantly **** Munster, double **** the Storm!!!

He got taken out in the air illegally and landed heavily

I just don't recall him extending the knee so violently to 'own the air space'.
Defending wingers will need to be just as violent back towards him then... can't just let him have free reign to make those catches every time it goes up.

If I'm an opposition winger I'm looking to just go hard into the contact whilst 'contesting' the ball... if you get him hard enough it will throw him off and his bat backs will be misdirected or knocked on... but he'll probably be higher and touching it first.

NRL have shown that they give zero ***** what happens if someone has their eyes on the ball.

They've changed the rules and voluntary tackles are fine. The contention is that Klein didn't call surrender when he should have. Instead he ruled tackle was complete as soon as Munster attempted to strip the ball.

Can you recall any instance where a player has pilfered the ball and it's been called play on? I can't recall too many instances off the top of my head but tend to get the impression in that situation it never goes the way of the team trying to take advantage.

Agreed @Big Pete. I can’t really recall any instance like that. Point is, if Mariner just took the ball from Munster and scored, I’d be pissed if they didn’t award it.
