09/10 Football Thread

yet they are both really shit clubs. SPL is better left unmentioned.

Yeah that's also true penny. People just assume Celtic and Rangers would be challenging for the top 6 spots in the Premier League from the get go... I think they would be struggling to get into the top half of the table tbh. Both teams have only got to beat 1 challenging opposition (each other) twice each year to win the title (usually). And it's not often they have a proper class player on the books. Celtic in recent times have had Henrik Larsson and Rangers Geo van Bronckhorst, I'm likely missing out a couple of players who were decent but those are the only quality that really springs to mind.

agreed. Both sides would def struggle to even beat the lower premiership sides on a week to week basis. Its kind of like saying something like Sturm Graz would be top 6 in the Bundesliga coz they are big in the Austrian league.

how could a team with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink ever be unsuccessful!

I don't know, but Hull sure are crap [icon_lol1.

this is bullshit!!! Farina is a great coach. He drove the morning AFTER a night of drinking. This isn't so bad. sure its bad by the law, and the police have every right to fine anyone who does this, however, it shouldn't affect his job, he didn't knowingly get fucked up and go driving straight after.

Under Farina we have played the most attractive football of any of the A-League teams. I've always been proud of that. Now, I'm fearful we are going to play with the usual aussie bash and barge with long ball tactics.

Hey gang, on BHQ, go to your User Control Panel > Usergroups then click in the circle next to Football and submit. DO IT!

I don't actually know who created it (Russo?) but it looks awesome!

Steady on ning...just testing :-) Not decided we're going to do that yet. But we're considering separate discussion forums, mainly in Other Sports, for specific sports which you can choose to subscribe to or not, and if you don't, you don't see it.

Hoping for a few things out of it:
1. Ability for fans of those sports/issues to post more threads that they feel are relevant
2. Allow non-fans of the sports/issues not to see the posts and have to "mark read" or anything
3. Prevent non-fans of those sports/issues being douches and posting negative stuff in otherwise viable discussions

Well fella, i think it's an ace idea if it happens.

pennywise: The issue with Farina is bigger than that. Putting your own moral code aside which accepts drink driving in his circumstances, the facts are:
- it's his second drink driving charge in 3 years
- he's been suspended during the season for his behaviour towards officials
- he's had players suspended for their behaviour towards officials and opposition

Basically there's a huge discipline problem amongst the playing group and Farina is setting a bad example. However good a coach he is, he's a poor leader. The Roar had no option.

And on the drink driving thing...he had his 17 year old son in the car with him. Any parent who drives under the influence with a child, even one who's nearly an adult, deserves absolutely no sympathy. Ever.

TBH Pennywise, I was done the morning after a night out at 0.061 and I can tell you now.. I did not feel I was under the limit. He was allegedely 0.1+ so from my personal experience I would say he would have known.

I'll be putting out a survey shortly getting BHQ members thoughts on a few of our ideas to improve the place for next season.

On this, we're looking at sub forums possibly for:
Football
AFL
Cricket
American Sports
Fight Sports
Horse Racing

At this point there doesn't seem to be enough discussion about other particular sports to justify inclusion, but we're open to petitions.

Other Sports itself will still be available as a forum, and discussion of the above sports will still be allowed, mainly to allow non-subscribers to talk about a particular issue. For example, the Frank Farina sacking. I'm not a Football fan generally so I wouldn't subscribe to the Football forum to talk about it, but I may want to discuss it in the Other Sports forum.

Again, nothing decided, just putting the ideas out there.

I dont mind, but i would LOVE a "spam" section just to post pointless shit. you could even put longest thread, bag stuff out, what song are u listening to, etc. in there as well.

btw Roos are playing tonite. we need this win so badly. we have our main squad playing, but our match against Oman in the Asian Cup proves that this match will be anything but a walkover

I had a suspicion that Oman would be good, but I didnt think they would be that good. We couldve just as easily lost that game. We really came alive in the 2nd half tho. I thought Emerton was good, Chipper started poorly but finished well, Kewell was just amazing in some parts and Schwarz was awesome as always.
