2014 Broncos Season

I was told by a mate that Reed was outstanding on the weekend.

Maybe the addition of some outside backs to the club was just the thing he needed to lift back to 2011/2012 levels.

Well, hopefully not 2012 level.

If you are referring to Oates as a centre - he is not a centre - remember he -played wing at the end of last year but has also been earmarked as a second rower - so as a utility player he gets my nod as we have others in the team we can juggle if need arises in the backs but I really do not want to see Gillett or Glenn forced to play out in the backs because of an injury - it was a toos up between Oates and Mills for the 17 but i picked Oates based on his potential and options he offers

Why isn't Oates a centre? hes fast, young and has played centre alot in the u20's hes not unfamiliar to the position

Still better than 2013.

Though I think not having Dale outside of him messed him up.

We have too many second rowers Reed doesnt need that move for along time

If Copley nails it in the right centre until Hodges comes back then with his speed and size Hook will have no option to give Reed the flick unless he scores 1 or 2 tries a game from running play not bombs

When Hodges gets back copley moves out one. Reed will not be dispalced by Copley this season. He is a international centre who would have the inside running for a vacant centre spot in origin if he didnt choose England. Reed is picked on alot, you give him half a chance he will score for you and his defence is committed cannot ask much more.

This comes from someone who didnt even want him to debut thought he wouldnt last at the broncos he has pleasently provd me wrong

Wtf are you talking about lol, you said you would move Reed to the bench, hence why I asked why we would have a Centre on the bench..

Excuse me - if you read the threads above some of us are talking about Reed eventually moving into the second row - hence he would make a pretty good utility player on the bench and remember you were wrong in calling Oates a centre - he played on the wing last year and is touted to be a second rower - hence his versatility as a player to have on the bench and there is absolutely no need to carry on with the 'wtf" bit at the start of your reply

Its not uncommon for a young second rower to play centre, thompson for the dragons spent a few seasons at centre before moving into the forward back is a classic example and he was quite good at it.

Oates has played at centre in the u20's to great effect i might add, Griffin would not of gotten the idea to put him on the wing if he didnt think he could play out wide in the first palce. your saying a second rower who can play wing cannot be the median which is centre? if anything he would perfect for it while he was young and there is an abundance of second rowers at the club

He is a great utility able to play wing, CENTRE and 2nd row. but could easily start in any of those

well I hope Oates ends up as a backrower but in the meantime he is more suited to the centres than the wing, even if he did do a decent job on the wing last year

Nice rebuttal ...... :takdir:

although, as it's been said.....Oates has played in the centres, so calling him a centre isn't too far a stretch.

Personally I'd like to give him a run in the centres and fast track Reed onto the bench and / or into the backrow.

EDIT baiting

Oates in the centres is a bit of a defensive liability. I was making a video of his defense at centre when he played there for the Broncos, and let's just say he was below average. He was slow, he couldn't keep up. If it wasn't for the other players around him helping him, they would've got by him.

I would rather he add on a few extra kilos and be used as an impact forward off the bench.

P.S. That was just a random thought...

Oates made his nrl debut in the second row. Only got moved to centre when reed was injured. And wing when Norman was dropped and reed returned. Turns out that's actually the order of his positions too. He is primarily a second rower. Although frequently playes centre as a backup. Never heard of him playing wing before last year. He would have to be a very wide running second rower as he hasn't put on his size yet. He would probably be our ideal bench utility. And play Qld cup as well due to low minutes.

That's enough people, stick to the topic and your opinions about it.

??

I hope Corey Oates has a good 2014 season.

During Oate's junior days he was actually a wirey full back, not sure ho he would go now a days but that was where he played his junior reps and club footy before coming to the city.
