Why does everyone rate Kennedy so highly?. I don't think he is a bad player but I don't think he is all that great by any means.

Yeah, I agree, I think he's pretty average. Strong defensively, but ordinary in attack. He was the 5th choice prop at the Roosters, and on his way to becoming the 6th with Evans rising through the ranks.

Our depth is pretty low though, but I do feel like we got screwed a bit by paying him too much.

how much are we paying?

He was only 5th choice because of an injury and others were playing well before he could return. He was going to be QLD's 18th man. He's a big strong runner who's good in defense, gets the player on the ground at least. And he can score tries.

I was the same when the media first started the circle jerk over him. He scored one barging try through some poor defence and everyone went nuts. It was probably made worse at the time because NSW were short on props (hence Gallen in the #8) and they cried poor when they found out Kennedy was another Qlder.

IMO he has the potential to be a starting prop, as he has a big motor and can play decent minutes. But my #1 concern with him is his discipline - he's got to get rid of the cheap niggle or he may be a liability.

Totally agree. I haven't seen every game he's played but the ones I have, he has been pretty underwhelming given his size.

300k is basically 1/25th of the salary cap. Seems very fair given his ability and potential.

I agree he is on the verge of origin and can only get fitter, stronger and become a more complete player.

Re: Offseason 2013/14

Over this preseason I hope the team double in fitness. Half the reason we did so badly this season was because off the lack of fitness, we were unable to stand up in defence and when we attacked we looked sluggish, tied even.

Yes......it would appear as though my eye gouging comment about his weight has paid off.

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

Wishing him all the best for 2014.......hopefully he'll be pushing Hannant and McGuire hard for the top spot.

It'll be good competition within the team. Which should produce better results on the field.

Also should keep Thaiday out of the front row

Doesn't say anything about their ability as footballers, but both Kennedy & Mills impressed me with their interviews. Both were upfront and didn't rely on the usual PR cliches most players do. Kind of makes me want to see them succeed more than I did before.

Still, such a long off-season. Can't wait until the draw is released within the next fortnight and news on some potential signings.
