2014 Four Nations

I want to see them take Friend over instead of Farah for a long term option

Ben Hunt (Broncos)
Corey Parker (Broncos)
Josh McGuire (Broncos)
Sam Thaiday (Broncos)
Gavin Cooper (Cowboys)
James Tamou (Cowboys
Johnathan Thurston (Cowboys)
Matt Scott (Cowboys)
Michael Morgan (Cowboys)
Jarryd Hayne (Eels)
Beau Scott (Knights)
Kurt Gidley (Knights)
Willie Mason (Knights
Anthony Milford (Raiders)
Jack Wighton (Raiders)
Jarrod Croker (Raiders)
Josh Papalii (Raiders)
Anthony Watmough (Sea Eagles)
Brenton Lawrence (Sea Eagles)
Brett Stewart (Sea Eagles)
Daly Cherry Evans (Sea Eagles)
Luke Lewis (Sharks)
Cameron Smith (Storm)
Cooper Cronk (Storm)
Ryan Hoffman (Storm)
William Chambers (Storm)
Aaron Woods (Tigers)
Robbie Farah (Tigers)
Greg Bird (Titans)
Jacob Lillyman (Warriors)

This is the squad right now.

I'll take a stab at which players will be added out of the four finals teams.

Sydney Roosters
Daniel Tupou
Michael Jennings
James Maloney
Mitchell Pearce
Jake Friend
Boyd Cordner
Aidan Guerra

South Sydney Rabbitohs
Greg Inglis
Alex Johnston
Dylan Walker
Adam Reynolds
John Sutton
Chris McQueen

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
Josh Morris
Tim Lafai
Josh Reynolds
Trent Hodkinson
Aiden Tolman
Josh Jackson
Tony Williams

Penrith Panthers
Matt Moylan
Josh Mansour
Jamie Soward
James Segeyaro
Adam Docker

Not exactly the players I'd have there or players I can see in the final squad but certainly a list of names I can see being added.

Trying to dwindle that down into 24 would be interesting.

There is some injury concern over Smith's fitness and to have Farah on stand by would be valuable. I don't honestly know who will get the other wing spot but Tupou had a good Origin series and is a freakish talent and I wouldn't be against him getting a Kangaroo spot.

Oh I hear you. I just think they'd make a decision prior to kick off, not carry Farrah on the bench on the off chance Smith cops an injury.

It's not like it matters. They could pick Kostjaysn as their long term hooker and still win.

My attempt to dwindle the squad down to 24...

So let's begin with all the potential incumbents.

Corey Parker
Sam Thaiday
James Tamou
Johnathan Thurston
Mat Scott
Jarryd Hayne
Josh Papalii
Daly Cherry-Evans
Luke Lewis
Cam Smith
Cooper Cronk
Robbie Farah
Greg Bird
Michael Jennings
Boyd Cordner
Josh Morris
Greg Inglis

Out of that, leaves 7 vacant spots and I wouldn't be surprised to see Josh Morris or another player ommitted due to off-season surgery.

But let's leave it with 7 so far.

The missing players are...

Darius Boyd
Andrew Fifita
Paul Gallen
Brett Morris
Nate Myles
Billy Slater
Brent Tate

4 backs, 3 forwards.

Let's start...

Darius Boyd - Alex Johnston is probably the closest to Boyd and since apart of the job description is to combine with GI, I believe he holds an advantage over others and should be there.

Andrew Fifita - Josh McGuire. Now this is tough because the closest player to Fifita would either be Willie Mason, David Klemmer or even Tony Williams. However, I don't see the value in Mason, Klemmer is too green & Williams is a backrow who has been in fairly scratchy form. Josh adds a lot of punch through the middle and I believe he's somebody who could play plenty of footy for Australia.

Paul Gallen - Anthony Watmough is the closest player to Gal but I have my doubts that he'll be there. If he misses out, I suspect they'll bring in Ryan Hoffman with the idea that Sam Thaiday can play in the middle of the field.

Brett Morris - Daniel Tupou, Jennings selection will help him here and I wouldn't be surprised to see him receive the nod.

Nate Myles - Aaron Woods. Both are tireless middle forwards who have played well at the highest level. Sheens is the coach, Woods will receive the nod.

Billy Slater - Anthony Milford. This was tough because there are arguments for other candidates like Matt Moylan but the way I see it, Anthony Milford is the brighter prospect, provides more versatility and has experience with a few of these players. I doubt he'll see much game-time, but Anthony will be better for the experience.

Brent Tate - Dylan Walker. For mine, it's a battle between Dylan Walker and Will Chambers. Somebody maybe able to make the argument that Chambers deserves his spot because he's played Origin, has experience with Smith & Cronk etc etc. but Walker has a brighter future, has more skills and for mine is a classier player.

Thoughts?

It'll be a random winger from the grand final to partner Morris. Probably either Johnston or Tupou. Don't want either there, Johnston needs to play more than 1 season, it's a bit of a joke to reward someone with an Australian jersey this early.

Didn't Folau play after one season?

Yep.

Hayne was selected in his first season too.

As was Wolfman.

I agree that Johnston shouldn't be selected this early but due to injury there is little choice. It basically comes down to him & Mansour. Now, I'm a big fan of Mansour but I see Johnston as the likely pick.

Sheens is still coach isn't he? Wouldn't put it past him to pick Pat.

Doesn't mean it's right. Especially in fucking David Williams' case.

International RL is already a joke, and picking players this early is just cheapening the jersey even futher. It'll be like a Carl Barron joke.

Hayne played in his second season

He was selected for the Tri Nations squad in his first.

Always seems to be some random winger gets a start in the Australian team if they win the grand final - eg David Williams.

I'd like to see Friend get blooded (no pun intended). The way he's turned his career/life around is amazing and his talent is awesome. I'd love to see QLD have him and Segeyaro as a 1-2 punch in 3 years time.
