2014 Halves Pairing

That's not the first time I've heard that we chose him over Milford, the scout that signed him to the raiders said the same thing

Nikorima is in the Terry Lamb mould. Playmaking not startling but support play 10/10. Quicker than Lamb though.
He needs to be outside a good playmaking halfback

The Raiders scout said the Broncos had Nikorima but not sure that they said Broncs hand first choice and chose him over Milford

I think they realised that about Nikorima until mid last year he was halfback before they put him at fullback and eventaully 5/8th where he had some of his best games

Before the stats were taken down on NRL Stats I compiled some of the promoted NYC stats.

Got any kick metres stats?

Just saw this on Facebook - to be taken with a grain of salt, obviously.

Hey Boys, I posted this in the Broncos Addicts group last night.

A few of us had a chat to Kodi at the gym yesterday, he reckons Kahu is a certainty at 5/8.
The other blokes are either injured or can't defend.

...Something to think about this weekend

And Kahu can? Please.

I doesn't really matter who plays for us in the halves this year. It is very unlikely that they will be up to scratch. Even Hunt who I have high hopes for could easily end up being no good. Very tough year for us I feel. Macca will need to step up and our forwards will need to be brilliant.

Locky was a shit defender also

Yeah but their is shit defenders and then there are SHIT defenders.

I mean it's basically taken as read that most halves are shit defenders so to say a guy is too shit at defense in the halves says a lot.

It's like the difference between saying someone is shit at maths so they do maths A, and they are shit at maths A

Superstars have to start out somewhere. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of confidence to be a good play maker and to get on a roll and be amazing. So much negativity around here.

Superstars? Where?

As in Darren Lockyer, Cameron Smith, Daly Cherry-Evans and Ben Barba. Players like that. They all would have had their critics when they were brought up into first grade. Everyone whinged that we lost Barba and DCE because we thought they weren't good enough to sign up when they were younger but they whinge about bringing up these young fellas who could be just as good. It's really just being negative for the sake of it. I have to wonder how dramatically this forum would change if we win a premiership. I think some people would still be unhappy.

It is hard to be positive or excited about our halves situation when Kahu is apparently going to be wearing the 6. I've got a lot of time for Kahu and I hope he succeeds but I am not sold on him in the halves that is for sure.

I don't think our halves or spine will be that all that much chop, particularly the 6 & 9. However, I really think we could make a deep (though not ultimate) finals run if Griffin adopts Hasler's gameplan from 2 years ago when Barba was so successful.

Of course, this is Griffin we are talking about, the man who sacked his captain and assistants because of our failures the last 2 years but is somehow still the man for the job, so we are probably just as likely to miss the finals.

How would everyone feel about a return for Darren Lockyer just for this year? He would have lost a bit of speed and evasiveness but I guarantee his kicking game and 5th tackle options would still be one of the best in the comp and that is what we look to be missing. He's only 36 as well which isn't old by any means. Just wishful thinking on my behalf but curious about what everyone else thinks.
