2017 Line-up

I have to say it is lucky many of you aren't in charge of recruitment at the club. if you were we would either be sitting massively over the salary cap or have a massively unbalanced side.

In the modern game it is impossible to have superstars in every position. every team needs players like Glenn. solid reliable players, who may not be flashy, but get the job done. these types of players also don't cost you an arm and a leg.

besides, anyone who has watched a Bennett coaches team over the last 15 years, knows that players like Glenn are exactly the type of players he loves, especially since he doesn't pay top dollar for his forwards.

Glenn is going to want $$, it's his last big contract, he has a young family. Why would we pay him $600k~ when we've got Su'A, who's on virtually nothing, and won't be demanding an enormous pay rise in his next contract, and could arguably surpass Glenn as a player by the end of the season anyway.

I think it's a no brainer..

we don't know what Glenn is going to want, we don't know what other clubs are likely to offer him ... hell we don't even know what the salary cap is going to be yet ... if it rises to the speculated 10 million, then your 400k players are going to turn into your 600k players.

people seem to want us to get rid of all our experienced guys Thaiday, Glenn + we've already lost Hunt, and McGuire will be offered big money to leave.

if we get rid of all our experience, it will be a few very lean years for the club ... it could even bring back bad memories of the Henjak days, when we had plenty of inexperienced players in out lineup.

Glenn has served honourably and whist he eventually might be superseded by the young fellows coming through, I think he'll still have a couple more years for us.

So we can loose the young guys that will be much better than him .i think has done a great job for us but this is a results driven business, and we need to move forward.

People want us to get rid of Thaiday & Glenn because it accomplishes two things, it enables to us to give more minutes in the back row to Oates & Su'A, who are the future of the club, and potentially both starting origin calibre players in the next few seasons, and it also enables us the cap manoeuvrability to keep virtually everyone else, McGuire, Kahu, Roberts etc.

If it comes down to re-signing Glenn and potentially losing McGuire to a big offer, I know what I'm chosing, lock up our key players first, sign a Halfback, if there's a few bucks left over for Glenn, offer it to him. But he's gotta be the absolute bottom priority right now.

if you get rid of all your experience because you are afraid you MAY lose a youngster that MAY be better in the future and you will end up with a season like the Newcastle Knights just had. then you will all be questioning why we got rid of guys like Glenn.

ok maybe not quite to that extreme, but we would be struggling to make the finals, the young players struggle to consistently put in the performances required to compete at the top level.

They are too impatient these days, they have to play first grade now, they don't think they should develop their games in the lower grades before making the jump up to the toughest comp in the world. maybe they should just ask Jayden Nikorima how that went for him

you guys have it your way ... Glenn is shit and we need to get rid of him for a bunch of inexperienced rookie, surely they will be able to be the leaders of our pack instantly ...

damn i'm glad Bennett is in charge and not you

Yes Foordy that is precisely what I think of Glenn, excellent deductive skills.

If you can't see the big picture, that's not my fault. I'm also glad Wayne is in charge, if you think he's about to let 2 future superstars rot in Queensland Cup whilst we give Glenn a retirement contract, think again. Virtually 0% chance Glenn is re-signed at this point in time, he's completely surplus to needs, despite being an above average Rugby League player.

This. Bennett always wants a mix of old hard heads and young, up and comers in his team. People can carry on as much as they like about the 'prospects' of our junior players, but Bennett has a simple answer for that, one that he has used many times.

'The minute a coach starts listening to the fans, he will become one of them...'

He will do what he thinks is best for the club and won't give a fig what anyone else thinks, as it should be. Based on his historical choices, it won't be a team full of youngsters and inexperience under his watch at Briabane, nor will it be a one off shot at a premiership with a team full of close to retirement age players, who promptly retire shortly thereafter.

However the club proceeds, it will be with one eye on the present and one on the future.

So, just to be clear, what you are saying is that since Glenn is off contract at seasons end ... there is absolutely no way that he will be at the Broncos in 2018

Some of you guys put way too much trust and faith in these untested, young, inexperienced 'future superstars', and little recognition or appreciation for the current, established, experienced, NRL quality players within our roster.

At this point in time, I see no reason to re-sign him. I love him as a player, don't get me wrong, but our biggest back log right now is in the back row. I'm extremely confident Wayne feels the same way.

Where are these "untested" and "inexperienced" adjectives coming from? You realise we're discussing moving Glenn on so that Oates can be moved permanently in to the back row right? He will have over 100 games of first grade experience by the end of the season, and will ideally get several games starting in the #11 jumper this year during the origin period to help get him prepared. He's far from inexperienced.

In regards to the 2017 line-up.. Either Sam has completely let himself go or Wayne has given him the heads up that he's an impact bench player again this year, he's huge.

Oates is inexperienced and untested ... maybe not as an NRL player, but definitely as a backrower.

You mean like Gillett

I know what your saying but we will still have experience left . Glenn gone 2018 , Thaiday 2019 which will help retain the likes of McGuire,Su'A oates etc. Blair could play on for another year so you would have McGuire, blair Gillette , mcullouch and the likes of sims ,oates who would have experience by then .

By that rationale, Josh McGuire is inexperienced and untested.. Maybe we should give him a few weeks in Queensland Cup to get some experience at lock..

Your right he is inexperienced as a backrower ... the big difference being he has also being playing in the forwards in a similar type of role. Oates has been playing wing, a completely different position.

we also aren't getting rid of all our experience so he can play backrow.

Easy mate ! He isn't shit but he will be surplus to our needs because Su'a will be a better version of Glenn pretty quickly. Its business!
