2019 Broncos Line-up

From Mackay. Idolises JT and is being mentored by him....I don't like the sound of this.

That’s an impressive bench for a young fella his size.

Did Cleary debut at 18? I think he could be playing first grade sooner than we think.

Broncos newest prop prodigy poised for debut
FEBRUARY 22, 2019
Boom Broncos forward Pat Carrigan has rocketed into the frame for his NRL debut following the suspension of Brisbane front-row sensation Payne Haas.
Haas’ four-match ban for failing to co-operate with the NRL integrity unit has created a four-way battle between Carrigan, Shaun Fensom, Patrick Mago and Tom Flegler for a place on Brisbane’s interchange bench.
Haas was considered a certainty for a bench spot, but his month-long black-listing has opened the door for Carrigan, who can press his claims in Saturday’s trial against Wynnum Manly at Kougari Oval.
Likened in style to Queensland Origin workhorse Josh McGuire, Carrigan was outstanding in last week’s 42-0 trial defeat of Souths Logan and Seibold believes the 21-year-old could handle an NRL baptism.
“Pat is in really good physical condition,” Seibold said.
“Both Pat and Tom (Flegler) have got a great deal of potential and were junior representative players. The challenge for Tom and Pat is to show they are up to making their debut in the NRL.
“They will get some time against Wynnum and some time against the Gold Coast Titans next week.
“There is a real competition for spots through our middle forwards and on our interchange bench.
“Those two guys have had good pre-seasons and both are good young professionals.
“I think they’ll both put their hand up and be there or thereabouts for game one.”
The Broncos launch their premiership campaign against big guns the Storm in Melbourne on March 14.
Carrigan averaged 148 metres and 35 tackles per game for Wynnum Manly in the Intrust Super Cup last season, numbers which suggest he would be the perfect bench toiler to complement Brisbane’s attacking weapons.
“The thing I like about Pat is that he is a really coachable young guy, as are a lot of the young guys here,” Seibold said.
“We’ve got a bit of competition in the forwards and a couple of old stagers like Shaun Fenson and Sam Tagataese are playing this week.
“They won’t want to let the young bucks jump in front of them.
“But Pat’s work in pre-season has been high quality. He is a really mature young kid and shows a lot of leadership skills. He will put his hand up for round one. He’ll be ready for the NRL, whenever that opportunity presents itself.”

Once he gets in i think Patty is going to be hard to shift out tbh.

Wait wasn't this one the next Webcke?Or was it the next Petero? I lose track.

I'd say it's probably more likely that Fensom grabs the Haas bench spot than Carrigan or Flegler personally. We'll see how Shaun looks tonight starting at prop though.

Fensom is going to need a big couple of games i think. Hard to judge against Wynnum tonight and last week against Souths because they are both fairly averages ISC sides.

Did anyone see the Storm v Warriors trial?

Billy Walters is developing well, I'd take him here at the Broncs if we didn't already have so many halves

I dont think he is anywhere near good enough to play NRL. I dont give him much chance at all when you look at blokes like Cameron Cullen or Josh Cleeland who are much better players than Billy and they havent cracked the NRL. Unless he switches back to hooker from five eighth and can make a go of it there i dont give him much chance at all. Love him to prove me wrong as i really do like him as a player.

So if all these middles are competing for one bench spot does that mean we are going to have two back rowers on the bench?

I dont think we will tbh. Think seeing as he wants to basically play with 3 middle forwards, we will have two of them on the bench minimum i'd say, then a backrower, and either a backup hooker or a utility unless he uses somebody like Glenn or Sua as the utility, then we may even see another middle forward there. We have plenty of versatility in the forwards with the likes of TPJ, Sua, Glenn, Carrigan and Fifita i'd say more than capable of filling more than one role.

With TPJ likely out obviously opens up another spot for round 1.

Maybe TPJ should try playing a little lighter? No point being the hulk if you’re constantly in rehab.
