What about the forgotten castoff who also had to make way to accomodate him. The young bloke who has been killing it and now looks like he has a real career in front of him. tommy Dearden. Just like billy Walters this guy also wanted to be a bronco for life, we didn’t even make him an offer.Played state of origin and was an integral part of qld’s game 3 win.
And on top of that, what about that other guy that definitely wanted to be a Bronco but we didn't make an offer. Could have led us to a premiership. Nathan Cleary! Definitely wanted to be a Bronco for life. It's true because I said it.

Been reading reactions to the announcement. 9/10 go the same way. Not pretty.

I don't know if you've read the comment section often but most people who comment on that stuff are idiots. Definitely not the kind of people you want to hitch your wagon to. I mean, you might though.

Wow I didn’t even know about this. That really was a poor decision by the club in retrospect. I was fairly ambivalent about the Walters signing until I read this.

Wait until you hear about us not signing Cameron Smith because our 15 year plan was to get Billy Walters in. We are trying to create a bloodline of superstardom.

It just keeps getting worse. What makes it even more frustrating is that they waited until Billiam was 28 before signing him even though Smith had already been moved on.

Irony alert.

Following the Roosters technique. Not signing Smith actually allowed us to save up and give young Billiam a 5.6 million dollar a year contract. We are keeping it out of the media because it's in his contract that the only people who can talk negatively about him are those that have already made their opinions invalid on the internet through previous embarrassing opinions. It's way deeper than you can even imagine. Also Kevin is giving half of his contract to Billy. Billy was said to be pretty upset that Kev didn't get his bonus. We almost lost him because of it.

Irony alert.
Good one, I guess you have to find someone else's opinion somewhere. The comment section might be better than Badel articles, probably not though.

Actually I think it’s true because Dearden said it.

hmmmmm, I wonder what kevvie was deciding on while Dearden and co were waiting for an offer….

Wait, you're bashing Badel when the theme of the day is how Badel/Meyn/etc have told us about Broncos signings months before the Broncos themselves? Odd timing for a predictable regurgiturd.

Also, please direct all complaints about Peter Badel to his number 1. fanboy @Foordy

you know hindsight really is 20/20.

I don't recall many people on hear upset that we didn't keep Dearden ... in fact even for his first 18 months at the Cowboys, most people were happy he left.

p.s. so many players have said they want to play for x club for life. sometimes they mean it sometimes they don't.

Ooh poor reading comprehension, mate. I was "bashing" you for not having a single opinion of your own. Implying you might believe the comment section might give you better opinions than the bloke you used to steal from, then literally saying probably not though.

Dearden didn't say he wasn't offered a contract, his manager who was obviously angry did. We trusting managers now? The Broncos probably couldn't afford to get into a bidding war at the time and were taking a stand against players who didn't want to be all in at the club. Plus he was below average for us.

And signing a utility on bottom dollar was never going to stop us from signing Dearden if we wanted to. The Walters conspiracies are getting wild. We lost Dearden so we could sign Billy? Hahaha

Actually Walters was probably deciding between Dearden and Reynolds but that doesn't fit your insane narrative.

One could even argue between Dearden and Mam as well. One would have to really squint and turn their head to the side to come up with it being between Dearden and Walters.

I was.

I'm not even one of the Kevvie bashers - and I was his loudest supporter to replace Seibold - but, the early signs he is no master coach:

1. The bungling of Walsh, by far the standout player in the preseason. Bennett would not have let that happen. It's also hard to credit Kevvie with his return.

2. His failure to shape a halves combination out of Milford, Croft and Dearden. I have never seen a worse mess in the halves than the shit Kevvie served up with those three. All of whom were highly talented. If Kevvie (and Alfie) should know anything, it would be how to get the most out of halves. He hasn't. And that includes Adam and Ezra.

3. His appalling mistreatment of Dearden, demoralizing and breaking him as a player, and driving him away from the club. Promising winger Xavier Coates soon followed. Is it Kevvie's fault Tom didn't blossom as expected? I think the answer to that is yes. Another coach managed it.

4. Hiring his son as a replacement, but failing to get him from the Tigers immediately. Which backfired when Billy failed in the halves yet was shoehorned a permanent place in the side at dummy half, a position he admits he's not comfortable with.

5. His failure to secure/train a hooker/utility combination of any class, leaving us with his son as a fill-in, and then getting him a further extension. The light at the end of that tunnel might be Blake Mozer, but he's just as likely to get the same treatment as Dearden.

6. Jake Turpin following the same path as Dearden, Croft and Milford. Another broken (seemingly) uncoached player sent elsewhere, ironically to a rich club higher up the table.

7. Likewise the Tyson Gamble schmozzle.

8. Failing to create anything resembling a fullback out of his first choice fullback in Tesi Niu.

9. Payne Haas running a lot, but not doing much.

10. The bench, a serial case of WTF rotating around his son taking turns at hooker.

11. The record breaking blowouts towards the end of 2022.

As for his greatest success: poaching Adam Reynolds. Let's not overlook he was rejected by his own club, and gifted to us by Wayne Bennett. We all love Adam, but it's yet to be seen whether he's actually worked out for us.

Actually Walters was probably deciding between Dearden and Reynolds but that doesn't fit your insane narrative.

The reports don't really support that.

Walters wasn't even looking at Reynolds at first. It took a phone call to Alfie and then Alfie convincing Walters for Walters to start looking at Reynolds, they flew down to Sydney within the next couple of days to try and lure him to the club. This was when Dearden was already as good as gone.

Do the reports support Walters choosing Billy over Dearden though?
