Do the reports support Walters choosing Billy over Dearden though?

It would be pretty ridiculous to think that Walters was chosen over anyone.

Tristan Sailor has signed a train-and-trial contract with us.

Simon Scanlan says:

“We were aware of Tristan when he moved to Brisbane and joined Souths Logan, we were monitoring him,” he said.

“One of Tristan’s strengths is his versatility. He can play in the halves, fullback or outside backs. That is very attractive.

“Souths struggled a bit this year after having a really good year in 2021 and losing a lot of players to other clubs.

“They didn’t have the same strength in their roster so when Tristan arrived he came into a side that was struggling to a certain extent.

“He made a difference there when he came in and played for them. He went straight into the Cup team at fullback and made it a lot easier for the halves with his experience.

“While they didn’t have a great year, he did make a difference to their side by coming in midway through the season.

“It’s an opportunity for Tristan. He’s had a bit of a reset with his career by moving to Brisbane. He is 24 and comes in motivated and hungry to make the most of his opportunity.

“There are opportunities at our club so he gets a chance to impress in front of the coaches and work really hard to prove he has a future at the club.”

Yes, I provided them earlier today. Remember? Dearden sat there waiting for an offer that was never made. For all intents and purposes he was dropped or moved on or whatever you want to call it. I don’t recall anyone from the club saying well we really wanted to keep him but blah blah blah…..Thereks a few blokes who are competition for Billy’s spot that have been moved on. Gamble’s parting shot was not just some slip of the tongue imo.

He waited until April... He played rounds 3-7 and won a single game. He was then dropped three days before it was announced he was leaving to the Cowboys, probably because he was no longer needed. It's a massive reach to imply that he was left unsigned because they wanted to offer a contract to a minimum wage player. Hugely dishonest on your behalf. They more than likely wanted to see him step up and do something, which he didn't do in our jersey.

And Gamble isn't a hooker, they weren't even competition to each other's spots. Gamble left because Mam is in his way. Blame Mam for Gamble if you want to be honest with yourself.

Don’t really rate Tristan as a player or as a human

he doesn't

It's a meh signing for me as well.

even if he manages to do enough to get one of the last places in our top 30, I can't see him playing too much

Neither that’s why I’m glad it’s only a train and trial. But in saying that before his charges he was a good player. I will take that 1,000 a week risk every day of the week if we can find that player again. If not well he either ***** off or stays on 1,000 a week.

lol “hugely dishonest”.

**** off.

Remember Walters was largely in charge of the club at this point, no dd or ikin. What happened that year largely was his blueprint and his alone.

It’s called clearing the decks, and that’s what he did. it was an open fact that billy was being headhunted by us shortly after kevvie began with us.

Gamble was a utility,a much better one than billy too. The same position billy played a good chunk of the season in. ie direct competition of Billy’s. For you to try and deny it and spin it another way is probably the most dishonest thing I’ve ever seen on the internet.

Not that I think he should get one, but we also have a couple of development contracts up for grabs next year.

I'd say we might have someone else pick up Tesi Niu after the World Cup, possibly even Riki.

Max Plath, Tristan Sailor and was it Seru? and whoever else we bring in on those train and trial deals would all be trying to fit into the 1 NRL spot (pending who else leaves in the off season) and 1 development spot I guess. Someone like Bayliss could be promoted, giving us another development spot too.

Jesus calm down buddy

There was no way a million dollar company was allowed to be run by Kevin Walters. Not a single chance in the world.

It wasn't an open fact he was being chased, it was a logical assumption.

Gamble was a 6 who trained at a lot of positions in the off season, but couldn't do what Billy could at 9 and that is saying something. Gamble was a half, not a utility.

Ok I'm sorry, I take it back. You're not being dishonest. You're flat out lying.

If we could somehow con a team into taking Tesi and replace him with Ahearn and Sailor than despite what I said above, I would be very happy with that upgrade.

by that logic, then clearly DD/Ikin think more of Billy as a player than his own father.

Kevvie only signed him to a 1 year contract ... DD/Ikin just re-signed him for double that contract length

I'd say he will look rather attractive to certain teams after beating up on a few of the lower teams at the World Cup. He's shit, but he's got the Broncos smell on him that teams love.

Hahaha I’m laughing so hard right now.

You just came up with one of the stupidest things I have ever read on here that Dearden got released to make room for Billy. The only one spinning it their own way is you. Tyson is not, was not and will never be a utility. Just cause people on here were reaching that he could play lock cause of his size and energy doesn’t make him a utility. He plays halves only at NRL standard and even that’s mediocre which is being carried by his great energy. I don’t know what’s more worrying your view on the Dearden release or that you think someone other than yourself is being dishonest.

The problem is he’s been mostly terrible at the World Cup. Granted he scored one decent try against wet paper bag defence. I could see someone like the Tigers maybe making the mistake or Wayne getting desperate for outside back depth.

That's usually enough to earn a Titans or Dragons contract though.
