Breaking news: backup players leave for better opportunity. Welcome to being a Broncos fan, must be your first time here.
Are you seriously a Billy Walters as our first choice hooker/utility fan? Seriously?

Quite literally as our starting hooker he could have asked for figures that are worthwhile being reported in the papers. It’s not the case cause he’s on **** all. Anything upwards to 300k is very reasonable for Billy considering nobody else exists on the market, utility value makes a player more expensive and his performances this year were well and truely at a standard to ask for that. He highly likely is on less. So quit your whining cause point being is his value in terms of salary cap is well under the average wage and his output is immense for the amount he is on. He literally is a Moneyball player. Obviously when you have a salary cap it’s not ideal to be coming 9th and needing a Moneyball player but that is the situation we are in and as such he plays a perfect role for this team. Does anyone think he is amazing? No. We purely are just being realistic with our situation. Obviously anyone who is remotely better than him that we acquire or have in the future kicks him back to reserve grade and probably unless proving to be handy depth will be moved on at the end of the 2 years but at the minute he is the starting hooker and proved far more than alternate options so can you explain to me how on earth that anything regarding Billy and contracts over the last 14-15 months or whenever he was signed has been unjustified and or nepotistic?
We all know the Moneyball theory. But Billy is so durn cheap is not a good argument for why he should be the player who handles the ball more than any other Bronco - as it was last year, and most likely next year as well (at least that's what the kerfuffle is fearing).

I also wouldn't be surprised if DD/ikin/Scanlon kept Kevvie at arms length during the negotiations for Billy's new contract.
It would be standard business practice to do so, not that means it happened of course, just a reasonably logical and safe assumption. I mean it would have to be total amateur hour up there for it not to happen, and whilst under White and co that was a strong possibility, I don't believe DD operates that way. Everything from him screams professionalism.

What do you think the rest of us are using?

You are basically saying that unless everyone else has undisputable facts, their opinions and logical assumptions have no value, but your own 'common sense' assumptions and logic are the only ones that could be true.
Actually that is what I am joking about. Have you even read some of the fanboys ridiculous arguments and mental gymnastics in their aggressive defence of criticism aimed at ANYONE or ANYTHING bronco related? I am quite happy to let others have an opinion but when they scoff at others for daring to think that red hill isnt actually pleasantville they deserve to be called out on it. Diehard obsessive fans on this forum are much happier when it is an echo chamber that sticks to having comments and discussion that they approve of. They come here to release endorphins and fantasise about our unquestionable footballing superiority, they don’t want their echo chamber discussions being de-railed and they don’t want troublemakers possibly influencing anyone to think the club is anything less than perfect. So yeah, I basically was saying that but in a “tongue in cheek” nature.

Kev saw Billy as a 9, it was Billy who wanted a shot at 6.
The issue right there in a nutshell. And that's where the fissure lies between most of the fanbase and the coach: we don't see Billy as an NRL standard 9 either. And if the coach - his biggest fan - doesn't see him as a half, he's not a so-called utility either. He's the worst of both worlds.

How about staff just suspend people as soon as a personal insult is thrown? There's zero need for it here. We're all fans of the same team, we're all adults or close enough to it (presumably), and as such we should be able to have rational, thoughtful and respectful discussions even about topics we don't agree on - and yet there's probably a sum total of three posters on here who don't just resort to name calling as soon as someone questions their opinion.
I hope I'm one of them.......or you're a poo poo head

No, that’s the problem with your argument of nepotism and complete lack of anything logical. It forces us to defend Billy Walters of all people. He’s average, but there’s reasons he made the team and that’s because Turpin fucking sucked and Paix was injured and unfit for most of the season. You guys have also created a scenario where if he is chosen in 2023 then it must be his dad picking him over other worthy players instead of him maybe being the better option over a couple of Q Cup quality players.

If we could pick up a better hooker I’d be all for it, but there’s very few available. The conspiracies of why he’s picked are getting out of hand, he was the only option really and the other players left because they’re not regular first graders. Those sort of players always leave to teams like the Knights for a better chance at playing NRL footy. It’s just how the sport has worked since the Broncos were created

I’m happy to call him a utility, it’s just we should have gone with a different choice utility imo.

Like who?
Are you saying Billy is the recession we have to have, because with all the money we splash on development and scouting he's the best utility we can find anywhere in the entire world?

This is the off season. We're talking about getting our roster ready for next season. How the **** did this bunch of useless ***** put us in a position where Billy fucking Walters is our answer at dummy half? I mean, really who is responsible for this woeful situation that you are asking us to accept because it's just the way it goes? Does Billy fucking Walters father have any say in any of this?
