I have no doubt he swore at the ref and regardless of the absolutely awful hearing that did not even come close to proving what it was supposed to do at no surprise to anyone, I think a suspension is a good outcome because as much as referees are awful, like everyone else, they deserve respect.

What is frustrating as always though is the double standard flashing in neon lights when looking at what Luai did. Luai has a believable excuse like Walsh did but the evidence was also there for all to see in that he pushed an official, which is either equal or worse than swearing at them. Luai is also in he ref’s face game in, game out so why no suspension there?

If Walsh’s conduct is worth three weeks, and I’m not saying it shouldn’t be, Luai’s is worth that as well because ultimately, both cases are contrary conduct toward a referee.
I agree it appeared to us Luai got too much benefit of the doubt. Might be a stretch of disbelief here but maybe Luai isn't as annoying to referees as he is to opposition players. Maybe he's earned some respect that Reece hasn't.

Going by what Kevvie, Ikin and various others have said, Reece needs to tone it down around the officials, and whether this is a miscarriage of justice (it's hard to make sense of the time spent on the process) it seems like everyone agrees the punishment might be the wake-up call he's been needing.

Sport isn't a democracy; it's a dictatorship. Young players need to develop their charm when dealing with officials, whether referees or police. Brats get spanked for being brats.

I haven't been following the last couple of days and have mixed messages on Walsh's punishment.

Do we have a definite answer on whether the SOO counts as part of the three match ban? Or is he just ineligible for selection?

1. Round 18 Dolphins (banned)
2. SOO: (ineligible) or (banned)
3. Round 19 Bye
4. Round 20 Bulldogs (banned)
5. Round 21 Souths (???)
6. Round 22 Roosters (available)

I watch every game and have seen no evidence that Luai shows some kind of respect for the officials, but even if he does what does that have to do with anything? If you are nice to them you are allowed to push them? We are talking about the MRC actions to it not the on-field ref. So even if they are best mates and the official was like “oh you scallywag” it is redundant to the point being made.

I think you know this though.

How do you feel about Walsh's earing?

I don't know, but whatever Reece has been doing on the field seems to have really pissed a lot of people off, or at least frustrated them, and they think he needs a lesson. Having him fight the charge and lose might be a wake up call that he can't expect special treatment just because he's super talented:

Kevvie:

"We are not happy with Reece's actions on the field, it's not acceptable. Reece has a lot of energy as a player and not filtering whats coming out of his mouth, his heart is in the right place, a lot of pressure on him. In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have played him after origin"

Donuts:

What he did was unacceptable. But it’s also how we get him to the point where Reece can have a long and successful career and thrive in a high-profile industry at a high-profile club. Speaking to him, he is really disappointed. He feels he has let the team and the club down. Plenty of people inside the club have spoken to him about what’s happened. There’s no hiding his talent, but Reece is also young and he’s a work in progress."
“There’s a few things Reece and I will work through. There’s so many wonderful people around Reece that want to help him, but they would also point out that what he did last Sunday was unacceptable. Reece is a good person. But the reality is when players step over the white line they can change."
“Part of Reece’s learning moving forward is how to control his emotions on the field so he can make greater contributions to our performances.”

Ikin:

“If Billy feels he needs to address things with Reece, then he will address it. I got to know Reece at the Brisbane Broncos. I can say he is a terrific young man, he is still very much in the early phase of his career and his personality type is one that is prone to the brilliant and the emotional and the dramatic, but that makes him who he is."
“Braith Anasta is right. Reece will show us moments where he has an inflated sense of self and there will be other times where it doesn’t go his way and he will emotionally react in the negative, but that’s just part of the journey. The majority of players, and I was in this boat too as a young player, we are all failing our way to success."
“We are testing the boundaries, the game is pulling us in a million different directions. Sometimes we get it right. Sometimes we get it wrong, but over time the more often you get it wrong, the more you realise you need to shift towards something else and that is just the phase Reece is in."
“Every championship team needs a sprinkling of guys who can do things that you can’t coach and invariably those guys are a little difficult to coach. That’s just how it works. The guys who have been blessed with natural ability are challenged in other ways."

“Reece is a really good young man. He gets lauded for being an enigmatic genius when he has the football in his hands and that personality follows you wherever you go. Over time, like all of us, he will go better at managing himself.”

Yeah I have read all those and they have nothing to do with what you said and what I responded to but that’s all good, at the end of the day you have made it pretty clear how you will handle discussions so I’m the idiot for assuming I could actually have a decent discussion with you.

I don't know what you want from me. Are you saying the MRC is part of an organized crime gang?

I don't get the Luai comparison. It's a terrible one.

I hate the **** as much as the next. But there was no disrespectful intent in that moment. Did I like it? No, do I believe a first grader would knowingly do that if his brain registered it was a ref? No.

The way Walsh speaks to the refs in his questioning, which he's not allowed to do, shows disrespect. It's completely different.

Luai pushing the ref happened because he's pretty much been allowed to disrespect whoever he's wanted since the Panthers have been allowed to win games. He's been allowed to get away with everything and has passionate supporters backing his every move. He shouldn't be allowed to just push anyone when the ball is out of play like it was, but he fucked up and pushed a ref. It was 100% learned disrespect.

I still don't believe Walsh swore at the ref and not a single soul has proven anything, despite him being suspended. Questioning refs isn't allowed but it's not a suspendable offence. Penalty was sufficient, suspension without proof is over the top. I also hope the RLPA come out and question why RL Media are allowed to call Walsh, Fifita and Carrigan liars.

Yes, I think Reece must've hit critical mass with the refs, and maybe the media as well, and this trial was about kicking him in the arse and knocking some sense into him more than trying him for this one indiscretion. Have to say, it came out of the blue a bit for me the press going from gushing to tut-tutting overnight like that. They must've been biting their tongues.

It doesn't matter how many conditions we put on the matter, Luai was not disrespecting the ref in that moment, and I don't think anyone without an emotional response would actually believe he did it with that intent.

If people are going to feign some outrage at a player pushing past other players, then try scoring celebrations will need to be looked at. Especially those disrespectful team mates who jump into the group, **** those guys, 3 weeks minimum.

Has anyone actually looked at what the charge entails?

It's very broad, and up to the interpretation on the day, which itself isn't awesome, but lets look at some points without even considering if the ref was sworn at or not.

- Was his conduct within the spirit of the game? No
- Is Walsh in a position to speak to the referee about on field decisions / Is Walsh the captain? No
- Did the ref give Walsh a warning to cut it out? Yes
- Did the ref reach out to the team captain to let him know of the issue? Yes

There are absolutely some blinkers on in this thread.

Intent doesn't mean anything in this sport. Or on the planet. I don't believe he pushed the ref intentionally, but you can't push past a police officer and expect to not face a few consequences. But I do believe he thinks he can push refs and get away with it. I do believe he thinks he can just be careless and push whoever he wants

@Browny @Jason Simmons

I'd like to know what would happen if I was running to a train through central station in a crowd, and I was running through those people, and one of them happened to be you. I accidentally hit you, I turn around and apologise and continue on my way.

Second scenario. I don't turn around and apologise due to the crowd and not even realising, but you can clearly see it was accidental.

How long am I in prison for?

In regards to the last part, in your opinion does questioning the ref mean he should be suspended for three games? Why was Titans player Sam Verrills who had his hands up and was yelling in the direction of the referee for the entire game not warned/marched and suspended?

What if you have a reputation for being a prick? Guarantee if someone with history of doing dirty shit in front of police officers does it, there's going to be some questions asked

I'm not sure sorry mate, I'm only really interested in arguing what is in front of me here. Perhaps neither of those players had a question mark over their head for swearing at the ref, and ending up in a position where the judicary would get involved to look at things with a fine tooth comb.

@Browny @Jason Simmons - Update to the scenario. I'm a bit of a grub in general, so you know of me, but you can still clearly see that in this moment, shit was an accident. Would you still charge me?
