2024 pre-season discussion: Pre-season Premiers

Does anyone know if Lee Briers has been retained for next season ... not sure what his contract is. Hope he's still with us , for mine he had a big influence on the boys this past year.

I'd be shocked if he wasn't initially signed for 2 or 3 years ... it's a big ask to get someone to relocate their family across the other side of the world for a 1 year contract

Thurston:

“When the Broncos got to 24-8 I was sitting back thinking ‘watch Reyno go to work now and close this game out. They just didn’t do it. When you’re playing Penrith, you’ve got to play for 80 minutes. The Broncos seemed like they ran out of puff in the last 20 minutes. There were a couple of things where I thought ‘what are they doing?’ That’s pressure. It was the first grand final for most of those players. That will hurt them and they’ll certainly have some mental scars. It will either galvanise them or crush them.”
“Adam Reynolds' career is coming to an end and his premiership window is now. He needs to get it done. That’s what he was brought to the Broncos for. Your body starts breaking down as you get older. Every player is playing with injuries, but when you’re at that stage of your career you’re pretty much on ice during the week then do the main prep. It does get harder at that age.”

You’d think his body was falling to pieces the way some of the media is carrying on. He’s not that old… he didn’t seem to have any noticeable injuries this season.

It definatly may not go as smooth as this year in terms of injuries and ladder position, but anywhere outside of the top 6 would be poor given the amount of young potential we have that are now racking up origin and GF exp b4 their mid 20s...
And given the nature of that defeat its likely switching off and complacency will be burned into the memory of the core group.

Neck , groin , calf injuries this year ...

Did he go to court for this earlier in the year?

His name showed up on the court appearance records early this year.
It was certainly the worst kept secret:

"Because of Queensland laws prohibiting the identification of people charged with sexual assault or rape offences at this stage of court proceedings, NCA NewsWire is not able to name the man."

Cartwright's name has been thrown into the hat for the NSW Origin coaching position.

NSWRL chief executive David Trodden:

“John has expressed an interest in being involved with State of Origin next year which the board is considering along with some other expressions of interest."

Cartwright:

“I’m definitely interested in the NSW job. I’ve always loved that arena. I’ve been fortunate enough to work in it on and off for the last 15 years. It would be a dream job for me. I’ve been fortunate enough to play for NSW and then be involved as a coach. Just seeing the dominance of Queensland, off and on, over the last 15 years, it’s a challenge and I love a challenge.’’
“You can’t doubt what Origin brings out in people. Winning a premiership is the ultimate but Origin is something that is uniquely different and I believe you have to understand how big of a beast it is. I know I can bring something to the role. It’s not like coaching a club team. I think it’s a fair bit different. But I think coaches that are day-to-day on the job are really important. Knowing how the players expect to prepare, having someone that is experienced in doing that is really important.”

“Kevvy is very big on coaches being involved in rep footy. It’s a great opportunity to mix with the best of the best and you can’t not be involved in Origin and not come back better at what you do. Working with the best people, that’s where I think you get real growth.’’

Certainly would raise Kotoni's chances of being selected.

NSWRL might pick him just to yet insight on Walsh and Patty

Will they be our only certainties for Qld next year??

Mam will likely be in the squad but isnt getting in over Munster at this stage
