2025 Pre-season discussion. Training the house down.

Out played Jensen .
Who didn`t play badly . Te Kura is growing in confidence . He thought he was a half back there for a cpl of minutes yesterday .Drawing and passing in the middle of the ruck . Marty was maybe best impact of them all .
Te kura fatigued quickly, and that was with the broncos dominating possession. He could be exposed if defending and would be easy pickings for a good attack

Although it is good to have an impact bench, I think you need that solid/stable, mature and safe player off the bench, and players that can manage if the momentum swings against you during that time. If he is not starting, I think Jensen still needs to be on the bench to provide that continuity.

Posted in the match thread but probably this one will be more relevant for the season.

Played longer minutes than Jensen and got a lot more involved .
I agree lateral movement could be a weakness . The mind is willing but the body says no .
I think that is a plan - get him playing longer during trials .He played long stints last week too . Get him used to playing under duress . Then shorter stints in the real deal .

Tomorrow afternoon we will maybe get some insights . But at the moment it`s just the every one has to compete mantra .

I think hunt had a great game and will have put his hand up.

I think Riki will surprise a lot of you. He is maturing and growing his understanding of the game.

I think with B Hunt and Reno guiding him, we will see him running great lines, being defensively sound and continue to have the best kick pressur in the NRL.

I didn't think Riki was bad at all in the all stars game, he seemed to be working pretty hard defensively

He has the ability, just needs to be consistent and be more involved in attack - the more moving parts the more decisions the defence has to make

Reyno has been guiding him for several years. If he hasn't run a good line off him in the last few, why will Hunt over the other side of the field make him a better line runner?

I think Riki would to play his best footy in the middle. He doesn't have any skill, meaning he can't set up his outside man, doesn't have an offload, and doesn't run good lines. You can't praise Riki without using the words 'kick chase'

He however is a very good athlete, and could be used as a bench middle.

100% agree. Said it the other day, he came up as captain of the Kiwi under 19s playing Lock.

I think his ideal position is being a mobile bench middle who can cover 2nd row. I think Gos and Piakura (on the right), with Riki off the bench is our best balance.

If Piakura is getting gassed a fresh Riki can come on and do his kick chase thing.

8. Haas
9. Paix / Hunt
10. Carrigan
11. Gosiewksi
12. Piakura
13. Hetherington

14. Walters/Mozer/Paix
15. Jensen
16. Willison
17. Riki

That has to be one of the best benches in the league

Yeah Piakura playing outside Reyno with Staggs & Cobbo on that side too would be good stuff

This is the Riki that we want to see come back... for whatever reason he no longer seems able to make these kinds of runs.

It's like he runs the line as if he's going through the motions nowadays and just isn't ever expecting to get the ball. He was clearly expecting to get it on that play or was at least running the line thinking that he might get the ball
