It was always going to happen. As soon as I saw that panel of media hacks I was thinking "well, Joey is a shoo in now". And then the directive to ignore off-field issues and I knew it was set in stone.

He was a good player but I don't see him as better than Mal among others.

Good. Now the jizzfest can die off. Its a joke that Langer was never mentioned, but otherwise, I have no problem with this.

Regardless there needs to be a proper hall of fame set up. There have been way more than 8 people that are elite in Rugby League history and these people need to be recognized.

He did drugs. While he was a professional athlete in an elite Australian sport. He didn't get banned, fined, or anything. It was covered up, only for him to play the victim after retirement. Like Dan said, Lance Armstrong loses all his titles, Andrew Johns gets a media Job, and becomes an Immortal.

Other players have had better careers in terms of achievement but wont get a look in until later.

Also you're naive if you think other players don't pop pills when they go out, they just haven't been caught.

Mate there is a difference between popping pills on a Friday night and using them to play. And none of us are naive enough to believe others don't do drugs but the point his we know he did. It's such a BS excuse, I mean casting dispersions over the entire game just to try and lessen the guilt of Joey.

The other thing that has surprised on other site are a lot of people suggesting that johns should be hailed as some type of hero because he came out and admitted it. Marion jones wasn't hailed as a hero she went to jail and had her rewards stripped as she should. Also, with all his mates in the media it is quiet possible someone gave him the heads up that it was all about to come out and he decided to be 'honorable' and get in first

We,society, have a strange and twisted view about what is acceptable and that which is not. We condone tobacco and alcohol because we have deemed them legal and can be abused at leisure. Likewise we are at peace with ssri's to moderate mood and can use them when we play sport or work at our jobs. We condone the use of powerful painkillers on the field and happily dole them out when we need our players back on the field. A performance enhancer if there ever was one !! I mean, the level of performance before the player receives the injection is enhanced after receiving their medicine. We are okay with that.

I don't actually think any drugs Johns took enhanced his performances but being given the status of immortal is definitely wrong. I just don't think Johns efforts were enough to be given the status irrespective of his extracurricular activities.The drug issue is a non-issue to me. I just don't think he merited the award and not because he messed with drugs.

By the way broncos4life..it's ASpersions not DIspersions lol...I know correct English is unimportant but the words should at least mean what you want them to mean

thats the real question that hasnt been asked isnt it? why did it have to only be one? is there a rule saying they can only induct one player per 5 years or whatever it is? if there is, its gonna be something stupid like 100 years before players like Slater/Smith/Thurston/Lockyer get in.

Today I learned that it's not actually judged on off field stuff, and only judged on their playing careers...in which case it makes sense, Johns was definitely a superior player.

Frankly the NRL is such an incompetent mess we're lucky the game sells itself, the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame needs to be the only thing people care about - not the Dally M's run by a newspaper and the Immortals run by a magazine.
