White already has a new gig.

The Ikin stuff really amuses me in light of the lack of experience highlighted as a problem at the club by the same people campaigning for Ikin.

unless his post Broncos career is something to do with Rugby League ... no one will care about our on field results.

all they'll care about is the financial side of the organisation.
The financial side such as paying old mate several million dollars to run the club's brand and value into the ground?

Football experience is what we are after which Ikin has. The financially experienced CEO has left the club in a state where on the field they are the worst ever and off the field he has handed out one of the worst contracts ever which will cost the Broncos dearly.

Sounds like an argument for management experience...

Given the state of the place, either White has zero business acumen or it's not what we need.

what he's saying is that we don't need to worry about someone with business acumen ... because, you know, $50 million businesses run themselves

What I’m saying is I don’t want my team to be the embarrassment of the competition anymore, sorry that’s such an odd goal.

by the state of the place, i assume you mean a $50 million dollar empire that puts us at the top of Aussie sport ... and still making a profit (albeit a small one) even after losing one of our main revenue streams ... you mean that state

Why not both? Fans don’t get anything from them being successful off field. We can’t sign extra players, we don’t get any benefits. It’s just lining their pockets, not ours.

Up until now, he's had a perfectly servicable product to rely on, in a team that didn't completely suck, and were still well respected, and highly regarded in the local media.

Now that he doesn't have that, the wheels seem to have fallen off, and damage control seems to be no control at all. Just because a business continue to see profits over a small period a couple of years, doesn't indicate that the business is going well.

If you were an investor, or a business person with interests in the club, you would make far more money by actually winning.

Exactly, about 6 years ago I had 6 seats in the members stand I'd been a member since ANZ days back in 92. But the more I saw the gameday package dwindle over the years the more I realised the club's priority was being financially successful and if that happened to coincide with us being successful on the field it was a bonus. I decided my money was not going to improving our roster but instead straight into fat cat shareholders pockets.

I can safely say the present state of the playing side of the club is the lowest it has ever been since we first ran out against Manly back in 88.

you can't have both if you decide to appoint an ex footy player / media identity to the role of CEO. all that will do is MAYBE improve the footy side of things (if you get the right ex footy player) ... but significantly devalue the business side until you end up on skid row, begging to be constantly bailed out by the NRL, like many NSW clubs (and the Titans).

Melbourne and the Roosters both have businessmen running their clubs. and it was only a few years ago where the Roosters were in a similar ladder position to us. (in 2016, they finished in 15th place, but stuck firm with their coach and are now back to back premiers)

IMO what you need is a split the difference. appoint a business orientated CEO, then revamp the football department and get a quality Football Manager or something along those lines. with responsibility over the roster, contracts etc

BTW, if people are keen on Ikin because they think he'll come in and immediately fire Seibold ... it won't happen. he won't have any more power to hire and fire the coach than White does. he'll still only get 1 vote on the board

I paid back the favour by buying kids tickets to games instead of buying a flexi membership.

No, by the state of the place I mean staring down the barrel of possibly getting the spoon in what is definitely our worst ever season. You do realise the money actually comes from somewhere right? Paul White doesn't magic it out of thin air. We've been profitable because we are the only game in town in the buggest slice of rugby league heartland you're going to find, and because we were successful. Sponsors aren't going to be beating down our door to give us bags of cash once the rot your mate has presided over really sinks in and the latest, fattest train wreck Moses sold White on a multi-million dollar deal is doing his best to win us our first ever spoon. I'm not sure what your business credentials but in my field paying massive overs for garbage which ruins your product and kills the long term value of your brand isn't considered to be a good outcome.

if you're an investor and are investing in a rugby league club (any rugby league club) ... you are either have too much fucking money or are a complete idiot ... maybe both. there is just no return on your investment, regardless of how successful the club is.

until COVID, we were more profitable than we have ever been and we haven't won a title in a decade
