Ashes Discussion

Shane Warne really put the mocker then, trying to seem like this was England's to lose now and then Starc got stokes out🤣

Starc has developed an off cutter to left handers !
Both Mallan and Stokes done by balls cutting back at them . That was Mitch Johnsons thing for the early part of his career . He nicked a lot of right handers off with cutters .
Good to see the old dog learn a new trick .

This score line shouldn’t surprise anyone.. apart from Adelaide this time last year, Australia has laboured big time with the ball in the second innings of Test matches over recent years.. even in tests we’ve won, we’ve taken a long time to get the job done.. As good as our bowling attack can be, they definitely have problems getting 10 wickets in the second innings..

Imo Starc & Lyon are a big reason for our struggles.. as good as Lyon has been, the one thing he hasn’t delivered is big hauls on the 4th & 5th days of tests when conditions and the situation of the match suggests he should.. Starc’s lack of control has so often seen him become a passenger and heaped the load on Cummins & Hazlewood
This aged well …

So the question needs to be asked, not only is this one of if not the worst English team ever but is it in fact the worst test side ever?

And kudos to Boland, shame his career is on the wind down and he's come through in one of the best Aussie pace bowling eras, clearly he should have played more tests, just like Steketee, Sayers, Copeland, Mennie, et al.

I think they definitely made some horrific decisions in this series.

Batting first at the Gabba on a green top with overcast conditions, resting Broad and Anderson in that game.

Then we head to Adelaide, they bring in Broad and Anderson on the view that it would swing around under lights, resting Wood and Leach in that game as well, thus making their attack very one dimensional if the ball wasn't hooping.

Their batsman all series just haven't performed, Root and Malan have been okay without being brilliant but you can't really say anyone else has put the pressure back on us with the bat.

Also happy to stand corrected regarding my comments about Boland, he was outstanding, particularly in the 2nd innings. Probably the horses for courses decision England were trying to pull off by playing Anderson and Broad in Adelaide, however they just ignored the conditions of the Gabba and it ended up being a terrible call from them, we however got it spot on with Boland.

Well deserved player of the match, Nathan Lyon a close second.

Given how hard this pitch proved for batting, I'd put Harris up there. Starc was also lethal.
