We would have got 300 if White wasn't batting IMO.

We need independant selectors for ODI & 20/20 games. The word "specialist" is getting thrown around heaps lately, but it's true. We need genuine specialists of the shorter games.

At least there is youth in our ODI team.

Hilfenahus doens't look like that good of a bowler to me either..

Lol, what are you basing that on?

The over he got hit for 18 or something?

Ponting shouldn't have thrown his most inexperienced bowler on at the death when it was going be such a close run thing.

he is a swing bowler when did he swing it???? It doesn't matter how inexperienced he is what a joke you are for using that line!!! He bowled poo his last 3 overs all went for over 10 that is poor bowling. Hilfy will improve but he doesn't look as great as most would like to think....

Are you seriously basing that on one game?

I have seen him bowl more than once and he has problems with his action and seems to stay it on leg stump a lot.. I think he will be a far better test bowler than one day bowler.. He also needs to get the new ball with Bracken.. What is the point of having a swing bowler in the side and not giving him the new ball??

According to Cricinfo:

- Warner to make debut in game 2.
- Clarke out for the rest of the series.
- Hopes likely to be dropped for Hauritz and his right-arm straight breaks.
- Steyn likely to be rested, Ntini in.
- De Villiers a good chance of returning, should replace van Jaarsveld.

I reckon the team should look like this....

Marsh
Warner
Ponting
Haddin
Hussey
Hussey
Hopes
Haurtiz
Bracken
Hilfenhaus
Tait

That side gives us 5 bowlers rather than 4 and some part time spin..

There is no way they will drop White Beads, the selectors like his hitting too much

Yeah your probably right I don't mind his hitting either and he is a good fielder but IMO Aussies need another bowling option...

Well it looks like Harris got the call up, so we've got Bracken, Halfenhaus, Harris, Hopes and the part time spinners. Looks rough, but hopefully we can get plenty of runs of the board. Probably not a bad idea to leave Tait out though, he could quite easily have gone for shitloads on the smaller ground.

Not enough bowlers IMO.. Hussey can throw the arm over but he is by no means a decent 5th bowling option... Aussies will need to make a ton of runs to feel safe with this bowling attack...

Agreed. I'm by no means a big Hauritz fan, but I think he would've been good to have today.

Haurtiz is a much better one day bowler than test bowler so I can't see why he is in the squad if he isn't going to be used.

What a surprise to see us die in the arse once again out of nowhere when all is in our favour - story of the summer. We are so tactically inept with both bat and ball its not funny.

There's nothing overly special about this Saffa attack, but one things for sure - they've well and truly got our measure upstairs. And this is exaggerated by the frustrating dumbness i'm seeing with the bat. Can't believe some of the stupid shots they're trying to play thinking they can get them away, the Saffas are loving it.

Going to take a huge improvement from our lot in the field to stop them from getting the runs.

9/249 in the end, after being 1/150 odd with 20+ overs to go. Some of the worst attempts at batting i've seen from an Aussie ODI side in quite some time. Some of them were playing like they were approaching lunch on Day 1 of a Test. Hilfy really needs to get the rock swinging this arv.

The powerplay (batting) has been really poorly used IMO. Generally teams will bowl 20 overs or so with their four main bowlers and then the part-timers come on. IMO, this is when the powerplay should be used. It means you either get to use it against the worst bowlers, or the fielding captain is forced to use his best bowlers for more overs (i.e. Steyn will have bowled 8 overs after 25, instead of 6), which would alter the fielding captain's plan. Furthermore, if you get through this period with wickets in hand, you then are likely to have 10 overs from the part-timers to add to your score.

249 at Bellerive is piss poor IMO, it's always been a fairly placid track from memory.

Bracken and Hilfy getting it swing nicely. Need to send a few back to the sheds here.
