The powerplay (batting) has been really poorly used IMO. Generally teams will bowl 20 overs or so with their four main bowlers and then the part-timers come on. IMO, this is when the powerplay should be used. It means you either get to use it against the worst bowlers, or the fielding captain is forced to use his best bowlers for more overs (i.e. Steyn will have bowled 8 overs after 25, instead of 6), which would alter the fielding captain's plan. Furthermore, if you get through this period with wickets in hand, you then are likely to have 10 overs from the part-timers to add to your score.

Personally I'd be using it around over 35 when the mandatory ball change takes place. Better to try and slog a new, hard ball than the older, softer one.

Nice work from Hilfy in that final over, did very well under immense pressure.

Good on him for keeping his head during those last few balls, given the pumping he took in his previous over and at the death in the last game. Nice to see Punter show a bit of faith in him.

Bracken also showed his worth once again, we'd be rooted without him at the moment.

Bracken is awesome, still can't believe he hasn't got a shot in the test team with all the changes over the past few months.

Hilfy did well today I am still not sure on him being our death bowler but he showed improvement and he deserves credit for today's efforts.. As for the batting power play I reckon the Aussies should have used it today when Ponting and Marsh were both over 50 and seeing the ball really well..

With the power plays they should place restrictions on when you can use them ie Between the 20 - 40 over mark to break up the tap it around for singles.

Not sure what happened in the middle of the innings but we need to stop throwing away our wickets, Pontings dismissal pissed me off

We get Mitchell Johnson back next game so we should be okay I reckon.

Next game's at the SCG isn't it? I'd probably punt White for Mitch and bring in Hauritz for Harris.

Johnson's developing allrounder abilities as a leading quick and clean hitter should more than make up for White's occasional good innings with the bat and one or two overs max per series of pie tossing. Honestly, if he's there as a batsmen only then surely we have better options?

I still don't like the idea of giving Haddin only a few balls at the end of an innings to have a hit and would rather try him at the top, but we should probably stick it out with Warner for now and see if he's got another good knock in him.

1. Marsh
2. Warner
3. Ponting
4. Mussey
5. Dussey
6. Haddin
7. Hopes
8. Johnson
9. Hauritz
10. Bracken
11. Hilfenhaus

I'm positive that Warner has it in him, he showed the skill sets and the stroke play to say that he'll develop into one hell of a good ODI player if he keeps hit wits about him.

yeah Lachy, it's like the ABC radio commentators were saying. He's going to fail fairly often, but when he gets going he'll score big and probably win you the game. They were comparing him to Gilchrist opening in the one day team. Gilly would often fail, but then he'd score 100+ at a very fast rate and win the match.

Warner could be similar.

they have to stick with warner for the next two years leading up to the 2011 world cup. he and symonds will be the enforcers with the bat that the others work around. he'll get great experience remaining with the side. when you consider we're missing 5 players (symonds, watson, lee, johnson, clarke) from our "first-picked" side, it really is an inexperienced side we have in this series. I think come the 2011 world cup we will be ready to win it again.

he was very unlucky to get a great ball yesterday; it would've done most batsmen let alone a debutant.

I think Lee is a spent force to be honest, at least until he can learn to bowl smart. And I seriously worry about Shaun Tait. He's a bit of a sprayer at the best of times, but it also seems he has to play a game, miss a game or his body falls to bits. Same re: Shane Watson if he's going to be made to bowl.

Shaun Marsh looks like a good long term prospect to open the batting, as is Dave Warner. Ponting should be around until 2011 at least at number 3, and Clarke should be number 4. M. Hussey 5 and Symonds 6 IMO.

Haddin 7 and then you pick bowlers, Johnson, Bracken, Hauritz/Hopes, Hilfenhaus/Harris/Bird/Harwood/Lee.

come off the grass Coxy Harwood is way too old to be given a run in the one day side.. Heck even Ryan Harris is old for a debutant when the Aussie team is crying out for an injection of youth..

Australian selectors believe young is 29-30. I can't see their attitude changing.

Yeah and the selectors are doing a great job it is good to see they had plans for the mass retirements that were bound to come..

Johnson in for Harris is the only change to the squad for the next two games.

And once again Australia's middle order is shithouse.
