Australian Summer Of Cricket '08/'09

Tait is our real great hope tonight.. He has the potential to destroy sides if he can get it right. Johnson and Hilfy need to keep it tight and hopefully knock over some early wickets... 222 is nowhere near enough absolute joke from the Aussies I have had enough of the selectors rewarding mediocrity..

Whatever team they pick - one dayers or tests can they just stop messing around with it for at least 2 games in a row.

As sad as it is I'd take a drunk Symonds over half the team.

Cmon Ponting try to get a wicket. There just tapping it around for singles

The Aussie batting and Bowling has been garbage but credit must go to the Saffas.. They have the best bowling attack in the world right now in both forms of the game.. They are just to good and the Aussies can't compete when they selectors keep picking gumbys...

Not necessarily suggesting it's the absolute best option for the year ahead, but i'd be comfortable seeing this team once everyone's available again.

1. Marsh
2. Warner
3. Ponting
4. Haddin
5. Clarke
6. Mussey
7. Watson/Symonds
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Bracken
11. Clark/Kejza

SA also have the best batting line up in the world at present. As for the selectors, they can hardly pick be blamed for picking mud from crap.

Yes no doubt although the Aussies batting line up is alot better than our bowling line up. Injuries have killed the Aussies this summer and selectors have done themselves no favours pickings Victards and half wits from NSW.

I think the problem Hammo is Australia doesn't pick the best 6 batsmen, best 4 bowlers and best wicketkeeper/batsman. They seem to have an obsession with picking all rounders, and then proceed to not really use them as all rounders.

Worse they seem to think the formula has to be:
- big hitting opener who either scores big or gets out for SFA (Gilchrist -> Warner)
- decent opening batsman who can accumulate runs (Hayden -> Marsh)
- quality number 3 batsman (Ponting)
- 3 batsmen who can bowl a bit (Husseys, Clarke, Watson, Symonds, albeit M. Hussey doesn't bowl much)
- wicketkeeper who can hit big, or another half arsed all rounder (Haddin, Hopes etc)
- flat, uninventive spinner (Hauritz)
- super fast bowler with poor control who may or may not rip the heart out of the batting (Lee -> Tait)
- solid line and length bowler who can take wickets (McGrath -> ??? That's what we're lacking at the moment to be honest, we either have a second super fast bowler - Johnson, or a second swinger - Hilfy)
- medium/fast bowler with plenty of variation (Bracken, Hilfy)

Forget the pigeon holes, just fucking pick the best one day batsmen in the country, the best one day bowlers, and the best keeper batsman and be done with it.

I've said it before;
two selection boards- a Test board and a limited overs board

I really think M. Hussey needs to take a good long hard look at himself.. He has had a worse summer than Haydos yet seems to be the love child of Ponting and his merry selectors.. Far too many favourties in and around the Australian cricket team..

I agree, Hussey has been real average all summer, but it seems when pressure starts to mount on him he manages to score just enough runs to get the heat off his back. I'd be dropping him for Hodge.

Yeh I agree Ronny I think Hodges is exactly what the Aussie middle order needs.. Hodge has had a great domestic summer yet he gets over looked it is a joke.

But you can't drop Mr Cricket... LOLZ

It would be more of a break form cricket than being dropped IMO.. I'd have Hodge in the team before D. Hussey and White..

My point was really Hussey is living on reputation. Both his one-time really high average which is now coming lower and lower, and his nickname and reputation as this cricket stats nut.

Seriously, the latter point is what's killing him I reckon. He goes out there knowing he needs to score X runs to get his average back up to Y and so he can't get out. As soon as you start worrying about personal accolades you're no good to the team.

Hodge didnt do himself any favours having a whinge about non-selection, hasnt he done his hammy anyway

You're right Coxy, about the selectors and the pigeon holes. Argh, it's very frustrating.

Stuart Clark is supposed to be the new McGrath isn't he?

Pigeon with a broken wing unfortunately. He's the only one that does fit the typecast and does it well. Others seem to be square pegs being shoved into round holes...and the result is messy.
