Barba vs Boyd

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

2010 and 2013 yes.
2011, 2012 and 2014, not even close.

That's being a bit generous, don't you think? I reckon 2014 should be taken off the table. Both Barba and Boyd had very ordinary seasons this year.

Look mate we will never know until we try, he obviously has skill, speed and agility and has had a great junior career so he is obviously a talent.

For crying out loud Kahu was listed as a reason why we don't need to sign another fullback, that was the context of my post. Not denying he has talent, not denying he has skill, simply stating that a player that has never played fullback for anything higher than the u20s isn't a case of "hey, don't worry we have fullback sealed"

I still believe we have enough cover.

1.Boyd ( in defence )
2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Barba ( in defence )
6. Milford
7. HuNt

Barba and Boyd swap positions in attack - best of both worlds.

Will never happen, and probably 10 reasons why it shouldn't, but throwing it out there anyway

Could work, but I can't really see Bennett using a system like that.

A new five-eight, game plan and weight loss won't teach him how to catch a high bomb. That's the reason why he absolutely can not play fullback ever again. Ever.

so let me get this straight ... ability under the bomb is why you never want Barba to be fullback for us again, but you are happy for Boyd (who is just as bad under the bomb) to be our fullback.

riiiiiiiiiiight

If i remember correctly, Barba had a horror run under the high ball while at the Dogs a few seasons ago.

Des made him work on it during the off-season and he came back and took almost every bomb he got sent his way.

Nothing to say he can't do it again for us.

Lol..explaining words to me ! Pretty loose though as Boyd is not a relative of WBs, maybe favouritism? Most of us would give WB the benefit of the doubt as he probably knows what he wants. He also obviously has faith in Boyd to do the job he needs, perhaps he thinks he knows best based on his 50 odd years in rugby league.

Mmmm....you ask a hypothetical ( based on or serving as a hypothesis)question ...if Boyd was on the open market, would any hypothetical Broncos coach want him ? I guess you would have to check his resume first....let's see ,current Origin rep, former Australian rep, many first grade games, premiership winner, and former Dally m fullback and was narrowly beaten by 2 points for Dally M player of the year that same year, Anzac Medal Winner.....and your unequivocal( in no doubt )incontrovertible(not able to be denied or disputed) answer is NO.

If that's the case then the better candidates for a first grade role must be numerous and incredibly well credentialed. I might add that knowing what these mythical coaches would definitely want or not want is an amazing ability, a career in criminal investigation awaits !

Don't be a dick.

Boyd is a very questionable buy for the Broncos with their current roster. Before Bennett was hired in August this year, no one here ranting about Boyd would have even spat at the idea of the Broncos targeting Boyd for 2015.

Oh well, put a broom through the place, and hopefully, without Langer or Lockyer and a forward pack (Webcke, Civo, Thorn, Tallis, Carroll) that today's salary cap can't buy the master coach will still have the goods to deliver another premiership.

That doesn't seem to stop the Roosters and Souths from having the aforementioned.

Harsh but not entirely inaccurate, subsbligh. Personally, I don't subscribe to the idea that our current roster is a genuine premeirship threat (yet). By extension, I don't think that it was all Griffin's fault and all that was needed was a change of coach (doesn't matter who) and then we can start making room in the trophy cabinet. Regardless of Griffin's performance, some players in our "current roster" need to accept responsibility for their (and the team's) performances. I don't think players are as powerless as some here are letting on. After all, isn't player power what led to Henjak's dismissal? If Griffin's game plan, tactics, selections, weight gaining regime are all terrible why were so many payers crowing about how good he was?

There are some major deficiencies in our current roster and we need to start learning how to tackle again if we're going to be a force again. I was always a fan of the Boyd signing as apart from Hodges, we are desperately lacking experience in the back line. Having someone of Boyd's caliber, who has been there and done it all, cannot be underestimated and can be a real settling influence in tight games (which we pretty much lost all this year).

I agree . I think everyone sees Boyd through a Bennett prism (A geometric solid whose bases are congruent polygons lying in parallel planes and whose sides are parallelograms. A solid of this type, often made of glass with triangular ends, used to disperse light and break it up into a spectrum.) I wonder if people would feel differently about him if he had uncoupled himself from the Bennett wagon. I suspect some may believe they would have an open mind about it.

The argument was whether we need another fullback, case in point... Boyd.
If it was someone like Folau, who actually is a genuine superstar, it would be a different discussion, but Boyd just isn't anywhere close to that, nor has he got the talent to ever be, whether or not he's a "rep"... winger.

It's my opinion, based on what I saw of him in the juniors, what I've seen of him in first grade, even if not in that position, and given the fact that he is already in our books, that Kahu can perfectly fill the role, should Barba fail. That is another factor (not the single reason) why in my opinion, WE DON'T NEED Boyd, who is just another Hoffman, except with worse defense and better passing. Even if Boyd came in to the current roster, I'd still have him behind both Barba and Kahu in my team, because talent and potential wise, they are miles ahead of him.

Regardless, as you probably know by now, I wouldn't want him at all, because I am convinced Bennett cannot be objective with him, besides not being worth the money he is on and possibly costing us a very promising player in Jayden Nikorima.

....the prism talk had me on a psychedelic trip man. >like<
