Barba vs Boyd

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

Did you watch any games last year? Barba wasn't good until the last few rounds/only against the Bulldogs. Boyd wasn't bad apart from that one time he ran away from a bomb, which Barba did a lot more than Boyd.
No, I always talk out of my arse... you should know that by now. :thefinger:

I'm not implying Barba was good, but Boyd was woeful, absolutely woeful. He played like he was forced to be there, but didn't want to in most Knights games. Besides, Barba improved over the season, Boyd got worse.

And anyone saying that Boyd was anything but dreadful this year is pulling it out of their arse.

Deadset, he was pathetic 95% of the year. Barba, no matter how bad you want to say he was, was better than Boyd this year. That is an undeniable truth. Boyd was terrible.

There is not a Broncos supporter alive that would answer "YES" to the question of:

Do the Broncos need to recruit a fullback for 2015?

I'd answer yes.. we don't have a first grade fullback on the roster.

Milford is confirmed to be playing Five-Eighth
Hoffman is a winger
Barba played his best footy at Five-Eighth last year
Eden is unknown

Barba is a fullback, Kahu is a fullback (and he is very good too), we have a few very good youngsters coming through the system who play the position besides having Eden or even Maranta as backup.

Yeah, the Broncos need a fullback...

Also, keep in mind the collateral damage.

Signing a "premium" fullback in Boyd to a 3 year deals means we probably have to cull:

- Barba
- Hoffman
- Kodi Nikorima and probably Jayden Nikorima
- Jordan Kahu

It's insanity to think Boyd's upside over any of the players above ("consistency" or experience) is valuable in those terms.

I'd like to see the correlation here between Bennett backers and those supporting the recruitment of Boyd.

Really? why? Because with Milford to play in the halves our best option fullback currently was woeful most of the year and only showed improvement when playing in the halves... which isn't fullback.

So then, I guess that makes me not a broncos supporter... man I have a lot of merchandise to get rid of...

Man, this would have been so much easier if Wayne saw Milford as a fullback. Wouldn't need Boyd or Barba. Then we'd just need to plug a hole until Taylor is ready.

I almost guarantee that if Barba got the chance next year to play fullback, with a new five-eight, game plan and lighter. He would absolutely kill it and get somewhere near his 2012 form.

Self-serving rubbish.

Let me rephrase then:

Is fullback the area of most need in terms of recruitment?

If Kennedy stays and pulls his thumb out.. yes.. yes it is.

Front Row Depth: McGuire, Kennedy*, Garbutt, Gavet, J.Wallace, Dodds, Ofahengaue
Back Row Depth: Thaiday, Parker, Gillett, Glenn, Oates, Lowrie, Stagg
Halves & Hooker Depth: Hunt, Milford, McCullough, Barba*, Taylor, J.Nikorima, Parcell
Centre & Wing Depth: Hodges, Copley, Vidot, Kahu, Reed, Maranta, Hoffman*
Fullback Depth: Barba*, Hoffman*

* May not be with the team next season

You can't tell me that Kahu or Maranta are First-Grade fullbacks, I'm sorry.

But all your doing in all of these posts is reframing the question to suit the answer you want, fair dinkum you should be a fucking lawyer.

How can you guarantee it? based on what.

Oh ok, seeing we are playing this game...

The more I keep reading throughout this thread the more convinced I am that posters are not arguing about who was better or genuinely comparing the two but rather who hates WB or supports him. Therefore his stated desire to sign Boyd is why so many seem to be down on Boyd and not any real dislike of him or his ability. I am not excluding myself as I have contributed but I like both Barba and Boyd. I would be looking forward to having both play for the Broncos in 2015 although I don't expect Boyd to be here. Strangely, neither may be playing for the Broncos in 2015.

Is Kahu a fullback? he hasn't played there in first grade and the guy is constantly injured anyway.

Maranta & Eden? seriously?

Being able to write 'fullback' as one of their positions on their player profile doesn't mean they are.

Ben Barba and Josh Hoffman not first grade fullbacks... Come on. Be realistic here.

Especailly when you've got Gavet, Dodds, Garbutt and Ofahengaue, Parcell, Taylor and Nikorima as examples of depth first graders.

Come on.

So you are happy to have Josh Hoffman as our fullback? Seriously? fucking Canberra don't even want him
