Barba vs Boyd

I was wrong about Sione's ineligibility.

I often said that Wayne selected him as quickly as he could.

Looking into it, Sione's birthday is the 25th of June, 1996.

That means he officially qualified for the NRL in Round 16 when the Knights took on the Eels.

Yet he didn't make his debut until Round 20 against Sydney.

In the mean time: Boyd, Uate, McManus & Mamo were selected infront of him.

I would argue that Boyd's performance against the Tigers, Cowboys, Eels and possibly Sharks (only caught extended highlights, 9's delayed telecasts can suck a fat one) justified his spot. Unsure if McManus or Uate deserved to be there.

Sione only played 3 games at fullback by the by. He was shifted for Kidley after the Melbourne upset.

Do you honestly think that if Boyd didn't get the help he needed (which i respect BTW) that he would have been dropped or shifted to the wing for Sione (once he became eligible)

No idea, I honestly don't know. All anyone can comment on if we are going to have a intelligent discussion is facts, not scenarios and assumptions that people have convinced themselves of

Your counter argument to everything is that in the future WB might act differently with Boyd and because it hasn't happened yet we can't judge.

Expecting WB to not support Boyd is like expecting a kleptomaniac not to steal. Technically the next instance hasn't occurred yet, but in all probability it will.

I really don't care about this part of the discussion to argue, so fine you guys can have that

Boyd was just as poor though. On 2014 form he would also be deadwood.

And how can you say Sione Matautai wasn't a viable replacement for Boyd. Kid was good enough to be an international for Australia by now.

To steal a phrase from Mr. Inside Knowledge, 1910. Did you watch the under 20s games Sione played enough to judge whether he was good enough to play first grade?

Not at all.

And in this instance I don't need to have. I'm not the Knights coach or a knights fan so there's no reason for me to be.

You should expect the knights coach to have a much better idea of players potential.

Also, this is different because 1910s argument was about playing guys next week. This argument was about last week and hindsight is fair enough.

My point is if Sione has the potential to make Australia like he did then surely the coach who works with him every week should be able to consider him a viable option to replace a guy who is out of sorts.

I think with Sheens at the helm an Aussie Jersey isn't really indicative of their actual abilities. On top of that, if Boyd was available do you think Sione would be playing? I don't.

I don't.

Once more, were I in Bennett's position and I knew now what I know about Sione, I would have persisted with Boyd over Sione (though the latter would have got a wing spot over Uate).

I wish Barba would do the same, though completely understand why he won't, he's up against Bennett's love child.

I wish Barba would do the same as well. I wouldn't write off Baba playing fullback again even if he stays and Boyd does sign with us. I've always had the impression that media outlets like the CM are hostile towards Bennett, more often than not.

If Boyd does play for us next year at fullback and we start the season slowly or he has a few off games then the pressure to swap will be immense, imo considering we have more highly rated players like Barba and Milford on our books.

Bennett himself has said that Barba is not in the top 17 if he stays, and if he did make the top 17 some time throughout the year he would come off the bench into the pack, which means hooker.

For the last time - Barba is literally no chance of being selected at fullback by Bennett as long as Boyd is at the club. None. Nada. Zilch.

Yeah we know bro

And if Boyd gets injured? Or relapses? Or am I to believe that Bennett will avoid Barba in case he outperforms Boyd and plays Maranta, Hodges or Kahu?

Imagine that happening and Barba killing it... how would Bennett justify putting boy wonder back in? Too high a risk mate... bet Maranta would sub him.

So you think barba should hang around twiddling his thumbs in reserve grade in case Boyd, hunt or Milford gets injured? **** me you can't be serious.....

Not at all. For his career he should go elsewhere. But if he did want to fight for a spot, he'll get some chances. Tell me that you don't think that any of our 1, 6 or 7 will miss even one game this year?
