RUMOUR Bellamy - 10 Year Deal

Yes but if there is too much talk about deals Bellamy might get pissed off and it won’t happen.

I can't see Bellamy doing anything other than exactly what Bellamy wants, and that is to secure his future, in terms of a job and that the job is in and around football. I don't think the media has any influence on what he wants and what he will choose for his future, whether it is here or Melbourne. Given the noise is that he wants to come to Qld, then if that's true he will make it happen no matter what the media say or do. He is where he is, he has achieved what he has because he did it his way, and that way has worked. That's Bellamy.

If it is a 10 year deal (which I find surprising given 10 years is a rather long time) it is because the club wants a long term future plan, one incidentally, if true, would most likely exclude Bennett given his age. For mine, I can't envisage an 80 year old Director of football. If it's a shorter term then maybe. If we are talking 10 years then we are talking long term player development, pathways etc etc including recruitment and retention at which Bellamy is rather good. Again I can't see Bennett in that sort of planning.

In any case, my view is that Bellamy (and the Storm management in general) don't tolerate a culture of failure and their record, the hard lessons of cap rorting aside, shows that. Perhaps this club is seeking redemption given the shit that has happened over the last 3 -4 years and a long term plan with senior management committed to that culture of long term success, fresh ideas (relative to what was here) and proven strategies is the way to go.

Having said all that, I expect Bennett here next year and for the next 10 years.

Media seem to be more interested in what’s happening here than the impending final series.

Same thing happened last year, just shows how important this club is to the NRL.

Everything we would like him to be responsible for would also be pretty much what the storm themselves would want...
Not necessarily. Melbourne already have Frank Ponissi as a GM of football, so if they brought Bellamy in it would be a similar role.

And if they did go with Bellamy then we could just go after Frank

I know everyone is quick to blame our board for the leaks, but who's to say the media are getting their info from us.

Just think about this logically for a second. Who would love to screw this deal up and stop Bellamy coming? Tripp and Melbourne, that's who.

And Bellamy's manager would have told them what sort of contract we're offering, to get them to pay up.

Hell, it could have even been one of the other two club's boards reportedly talking to Bellamy.

I agree and that would make the most sense. If that is the case I hope our board is making it very clear to Bellamy that this is coming from Tripp and not us.

This Tripp bloke sure is a salty individual, I hope it comes out and the broncos do make it clear to bellyache that it’s them not us. Imagine doing that when you’re primed for another gf run. It should seal the deal.

I think the writing is on the wall for the storm, it started when Welch and someone else only signed a one year extension, the fox is looking to get out, smith won’t answer if he’s retiring or not, belly not coaching past next year and the ceo contract runs out early next year.

Glorious.

I think the blame falling on the club for the leaks is partly because the place has been a sieve all year and rats in the ranks have been talked about on here and places like nrl360.
With the amount of sensitive news that has come out of this club this season, its no wonder people assume the leaks are our own.

In the politics by leaks, has Ponissi ever been mentioned as likely for here as opposed to the wide coverage about Donaghy?

Does it really matter though? Bellamy will go where Bellamy wants, at the best price. What stays in my mind is his stated desire to return to Qld. The media are tools, literally and metaphorically whose role in large part is simple marketing of the product. It's where and what Bellamy wants that counts, no more and no less. For mine, the media is just a side show in all this.

I don't think his desire to return to QLD will seal the deal for us, as the Storm are reportedly prepared to allow him to work remotely from QLD

I get that. However, working remotely in a job like this to me sounds ridiculous. It's hands on if you are going to do a Director of Football properly, and being able to physically be present at the club is important, to meet face to face with those who matter - players, managers, agents, board, coach and coaching staff. Remotely? Now that's a marketing tool by leak if ever I have heard one. As well, I understand Bellamy wants 3 days a week. Director of Football by Zoom? I can't see it.

Sounds like our media moles within the board are going to **** this for us.

The deal already looks like Bellemy has all the power in the negociations and we are kissing his feet, I really do think he is a good signing but when things start to look rediculious it generally says to me that it's not going to happen.

Julia is that you?

yep...i beleive thats correct.....they wont fold though, still be a strong club with strong fundamentals...but no dobut the amount of corporate knowledge now set to leave brings Melbourne right back down to the chasing pack...

I believe Peter Parr has been floated as a GM, but I cant recall Ponissi at this stage.

I'd just think Ponissi's job would become largely redundant if Bellamy is floating around doing a similar role to what is being proposed at Brisbane.

I think it's been reported that Frank is a very good operator when it comes to managing a football department so if we miss out on Bellamy then Frank could be a more than adequate second option, and he may be available if Bellamy takes over some of his current responsibilities

Maybe Ponissi is the long game target? Use Bellamy and play him a long like he ahs done to us in the past?

Working remotely from SEQ would be quite beneficial for them in some ways though, all their feeder clubs and pathways are up here. The Storm could easily be described as a Brisbane/SEQ team that just has the first grade squad based in Melbourne.
