OFFICIAL Ben Hunt returns home to Broncos on two-year deal

I'm not a huge fan of the modern version of Ben Hunt, think he makes a lot of mistakes, but, the decision to bring him home at a decent price is a good one. He pretty much covers all 4 of the holes we have in the spine by himself.

A) He will plug a gap at Five-Eighth while Ezra is suspended
B) He will be a great replacement for Reynolds if he gets injured this year
C) He will be a good hooker for us heading in to finals this season if Ezra & Reynolds are both fit and firing
D) He will be a good stop-gap option at Halfback next year if Reynolds hangs the boots up & Coby Black isn't quite ready

Ezra was pretty bad before the drama during the roosters game. The first pass he threw in 2024 kind of became his and our story for the year. Lackluster. Hunt is some added security, plus his body is in better nick then Reyno, i wouldbt be surprised if he extends for an additional year eventually
Agree on the intercept being poor but imo he didnt seem to bounce back from the drama following the game which makes me nervous he won't from this as well but time will tell. At his best he is a great attacking threat and can throw himself into a tackle as well (can miss an opposition centre though!) but at his worse he is a waste of 800-900k or whatever we signed him for.

Hunt is brilliant insurance for Ezra.

I love the idea of Hunt coming home but I can't help but feel we are lacking in the backrow and outside backs.

9 out of our top 30 are currently hookers or halves. I think this also means we have no room in the cap for a 30th player? We will be playing with 29 for the season is that right?
I agree there and the main reason we need to work on Hetherington moving into the back row too.

Ezra is going to cop an absolute bollocking at training when he gets back to the squad after christmas.

Victim mentality he displayed in 2024 will be dead and buried under Madge. He'll be fighting for a jersey again and out to prove himself. This was frankly the best thing that could have happened to the broncos - Ezra gets a major fucking rocket up the arse and we have someone who is going to do his job better than he did in '24.

He's now fighting for a top 17 Jersey, not the broncos sweating on him being available again. This changes the narrative completely for Ezra. He's now surplus to our needs for '25 unless he gets himself back to '23 form.

That GF performance from Ezra, I think a lot of people forget, he torched the best defence the NRL has seen in decades, multiple times. He's got it in him. It's going to be up to him to put in the yards and Madge to unlock him.

Confirmed by his manager.

“He’s very flattered by the interest from those clubs, but ultimately opted to finish his career in Brisbane,” said Hunt’s manager, Col Davis. “It was a difficult decision, and he hadn’t made up his mind until yesterday.”

The other thing that cannot be forgotten is the leadership and experience he brings, we need more of it.
Does this change the vice captain and captain if Reynolds retires next year?
